Just to note, this (along with several other Kuttsukiboshi doujinshi) was written by Naoya Ishikawa, who also created both OVAs (almost single-handedly). As such, it's labeled Original, rather than under the Kuttsukiboshi section.

I don’t know why there’s so much hate on that scene when it’s explained that she was forced into it by her brother who was going to die of a terminal disease. It’s non consensual.

It’s like something that would happen in a real gay drama, actually. Adds a bit of realism to a fucked up thing that actually happens.

It could, yes. Making strong associations with things is a common mnemonic practice in general, and making associations with places is the venerable method of loci. It wouldn't be guaranteed to work on a single pass, without rehearsal, but I don't think it's that implausible.
