During the interview, Takaki mentioned that other than Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura, the studio has another title for Switch in development that makes use of the system’s functionalities. This other title will be a packaged release, unlike Shinobi Refle, which is an digital-only release, and will also make use of Switch’s HD rumble functionality.

Additionally, Honey∞Parade Games is working on two PlayStation 4 titles. The first title may be able to be released this season. The second title is relatively big and is planned for the next term.

Other than those, several small things and mid-scale titles are also moving forward, which Takaki says should all be present next term. There’s a traditional smartphone title, and about two new and existing TV anime he’s working on. Takaki wants to announce all of his upcoming titles collectively around the summer, and is currently in preparation.

T-G: VALKYRIE DRIVE: Bhikkhuni’s plot centers around Liberators and their supporters, Extars. What was the impetus behind giving VALKYRIE DRIVE this kind of hierarchy?

Takaki: The SENRAN KAGURA games focus on battle and communication, with each team containing five characters on average, and in more recent games we’ve added many more characters with even livelier personalities, but that has also meant that the focus on each character becomes shorter and less-personal. I (and also other SENRAN KAGURA fans too) have gradually come to feel sorry about this aspect.

So when developing VALKYRIE DRIVE, I decided to create a new way of thinking when creating the story drama by describing more about the relationships and the minds of the characters. In Japan, it is a very popular trope to have a cast of ‘Top’ and ‘Bottom’ for a pair of characters and the thought of the character in the ‘bottom’ role taking initiative in the battle scenes was a very exciting proposition.

There was one idea that never came to fruition but sadly I couldn’t make it happen, but I wanted to make it possible that each pairing of characters, rather than the defaults, would each have a unique weapon mode, but due to their being seven characters, that would mean many unique and possible combinations to contend with outside of the defaults.

That explains a lot.

Yeah, everyone on the staff was baffled that most of the fans were women.

I have a few dumb things to say/ask about this whole VD fandom thing.

1. While this is cool news and all, I do have to wonder how reliable 4chan of all places is. Are there are any, you know, more reliable sources? It does seem pretty interesting, and I would like to read more about this phenomenon.

2. Maybe the devs will learn from this and include even more yuri in the sequel?? I never played the first one 'cause I'm too poor to afford it, but I heard it's mostly subtext. Now, as I said, I haven't played it, so I'm probably wrong, but, still, the more yuri the better.

3. I wonder if the sequel will be any different to accommodate for the unexpected female fandom. I mean, I think this proves more than anything else that women can enjoy ecchi-filled games, action games, and ecchi-filled action games just as much as men can but you never know what the dumbasses in charge will do.

4. I got to say that I couldn't stand Valkyrie Drive... the anime, that is (apparently, that's Mermaid, I thought the game was Mermaid, but, nope, it's Bhikkuni). Soul Eater was one of the first manga I ever read, if not the first, so I was pretty excited for Soul Eater... WITH LESBIANSSS. Alas, the first episode just had a bunch of prolonged, unnecessary sex scenes and very little action that was poorly animated to boot. None of the characters really struck me as particularly interesting either. I mean, I thought the love-fueled transformations or whatever would involve saucy kisses, not... full-on sex scenes. Now that the anime's over (well, been over... for like a year and a half), I have to ask: is it worth watching?

On a related note, I'm more tolerant of oversexualized BS in games though... but only if the game in question is actually a good game. I hear Bhikkuni's not a bad hack-and-slash game, so maybe I should just cough up the money to buy it at some point.

Imo it is worth watching at least once. The fanservice almost disappears half way through (it didn't bother me as much, cos it made sense in the context of the story most of the time) and story gets darker. It is far from masterpiece and have 2 controversial scenes (that last 20 sec max and imo people just blow it out of proportion), but overall it was pretty good experience for me. And whatever you think of entire show, I think final battle kicked some ass.

There is quite a bit yuri mangaka drawing VD:Mermaid doujins and stuff and there is almost no het porn, so it seems at least anime got a real yuri following and turned out to attract more girls than you would expect. After all the show is all about girls making out with each other.

Yes I was talking about it and imaginary rape scene. Neither really happens and imo first is pretty good way to illustrated what is currently happening to characters (I understand why it rubbed some people the wrong way though) and second actually let me see the character in much better, badass light, because so far she didn't really do anything that impressive, but this scene and stuff she said really sold to me that she has been through some real shit. Np, you are welcome ;3

The tentacle I was bleh on but didn't actively hate, but the imaginary rape thing I super hated and is why I have a hard time recommending it to anyone. I know at least one friend who had to drop the series over it. Even as a big fan I think the series could have handled that better.

Honestly only other thing I would change than those would probably be to have them say aishiteru or something to each other and kiss outside of combat reasons.

Oh and more Lady Lady. More Lady Lady forever.
