Wait, wait, wait. What? How can this series not be seen as gay? Isn't the entire premise basically using their gayness to turn themselves into weapons? They turn into weapons by getting sexually aroused, and their partners are female.

I'm not too familiar with this project, so I'm genuinely curious.

I also want to ask something about the vita game if you've played them: Are the uncomfortable phallic references and tentacles in the manga present in the game? Those are pretty much deal breakers for me.

I mean, yeah, there's that point of view; I can't exactly argue with that since this isn't my cup of tea either.

I'm trying to give it a fair shake though to see what the appeal is. (maaaybe I won't regret it...?)

That's also a little bit too harsh though I think. Technically, it can still be considered yuri because from what I've heard it has romantic relationships, or at least implications of romantic attraction between characters? Maybe I can just turn my brain off and not take it seriously whatsoever and maybe I can find something worthwhile; I try not to dismiss stuff no matter how unappealing something may be.

It has some heavy fanserivce, but I can't really say it is pointless. For the most part it fits into setting where girls have to make out to use their powers. Also about male fanservice, sure it was made with male audience in mind, but w/e only guys can enjoy it or not is arguable. Also since I was prepare for what I'm going into I just didn't pay that much attention to it and it worked for me (the oversized boobs left and right was honestly what was distracting me more). And fanservice does goes down in the second half of the show to almost non-existence.

It is obviously yuri. Again to not alienated male audience (which complained there is no male character to self insert to and have harem with) it wasn't outright confirmed (actually screw it at least 2 couples were totally confirmed in show) but there are at least few genuine couples not because of the virus. Some even were couples before getting to the island. Actually as the series progress it is more and more clear that most likely all the girls are gay to some degree. So people saying that it isn't yuri are just in denial and/or are too used to het where they clearly say "I love you" at the end and kiss. It had serious moments, goofy moments and cringey moments, but for what it was worth, it was a good watch and I don't regret seeing it.

That is me opinion anyway.

I just checked tvtropes too and it listed the anime under the page of "cast full of gays" and said that every named character was a lesbian. There's that I guess for what it's worth.

Alright, I think I got the gist of it. Thanks for explaining the nitty-gritty of the whole thing.

The anime doesn't really interest me, but I'm a bit interested in the game just for the fact that it's basically a gayer senran kagura or a senran kagura that commits a bit (or much?) more to its yuri.

Is it also right to assume that since it's the senran kagura creator's project, it's the ps vita game out of the three (Mermaid, Siren, Bhikkhuni) that will get more direct attention focused on it? I assume that developing games is what that creator does best, so this will be the work that he will focus on, and the anime and social game will be relegated to other studios.

The only phallic references in the game are those the player wants to make with the available accessories in the game, no tentacles whatsoever. There are some female robots that grope your characters to unlock some stuff though.

And is hard to say what side of the project will get the more attention. The Vita game and the anime are pretty popular with different sides of the fanbase. Bhikkhuni is more popular with the male fans while Mermaid has an abnormally big female fanbase. For an echii series anyways.

A few chapters in and I like the game so far...I think I maxed out the "Romance" between the girls too quick lol. The game is kinda buggy I hope those get fixed soon, the thing crashed on me twice already.

After checking the trophies I realized that you're forced to do the pervert actions in the dressing room for a long period of time, if you want to platinum the game and that's really annoying...I might just say screw the trophies...again.

The dressing room is needed not only for the trophies but also to unlock each girl personal hairstyle, hair color and costume. Thankfully, maxing them out takes at most 30 minutes per character.

For combat they do count as one character but you can dress and poke Mamori at your heart's content in the dressing room. And that is roughly the same price they had in Japan. Personally, I think they are worth the price tag.

Rinka, Manpukumaru, and Koharu started as swell folks and continued to be the pillars of the cast’s and player’s morale. Manpukumaru must be protected.

Ranka has made an olympic tier effort to transform from a sure-fire spark-plug who won’t back down and won’t doubt the people around her into the wishiest washiest wuss around who can’t seem to do anything unless Rinka is with her or agrees with her.

Viola went from arrogance personified with a face you want to make you its bitch as much as you want to punch it…to a brash yet approachable friend who is super fucking gay for Koharu (Koharu being quietly yet obviously gay for her in return).

And topping even Ranka’s upsetting 180 is Mana, who went from Bhikkuni’s resident sweetheart shaped like a friend to power hungry backstabber who spent every night developing a resting bitchface so she could properly let everyone know who will be winning this year’s “Biggest Asshole” award.
