Gonna agree with most of Anon's points, if not all. Just add the factor of the lowest common denominator (not saying it's always the case, but there's too much of that) and the fact that it's possible that most females had their first same gender relationships (or things resembing them) during the highschool years.

Oh, that and the common trope of romantic friendships between two girls. Wouldn't say it's only an eastern thing.

With that said, while I usually tend to choose tagged as adult life, there's a lot of good yuri about highschool. It's just that for some (including me) it's not really relatable.

Anon99 You should add to your list the overall "cult of youth" in Japanese culture, which has been around for a very long time indeed. The shining days of youth are heavily idealized, due largely to being the last bit of real freedom before passing on to the restrictive world of adults, which is largely dominated by work. It's similar to your point 5, but dialed up quite a bit.

And I rarely go out too actually lol, but my time is very mostly split thin between playing games, watching anime, writing fanfics for my girlfriend to read and spending time with her at night...so yeah, not that much time invest into longer series.

I do similar things (minus fanfics for a girlfriend) and I find time for longer series. I don't read them all but the ones I am reading I read when new chapters pop up.

Being a 80s retro homage it was to be expected that some people would call it a rip off... but Sailor Moon...? Now that surprised me... ;)
Can't really tell though since I never watched or read Sailor Moon... That whole parallel universe plotline rather reminded me of Silent Hill. I like that comparison better somehow ^^
