Jonathan Weissman, a biochemist at the University of California, San Francisco, and collaborators including Doudna have fused that dead Cas9 to molecules that can turn genes on and off.

This helps solve one of the biggest stumbling blocks to same-sex reproduction. Basically male and female cells have differences in which genes are activated and reproduction in mammals fails if both sets are not present. But this new technique can help flip enough genes from a female donor, before fertilizing the other mother, to prevent those reproductive errors. It's a better method of doing the thing which produced Kaguya back in 2004, whose mothers were specifically bred to make it possible.

Not like we care, they can just keep doing their things like avoiding vaccines and blood transfusion (summary....dying), while we move forward and live happy.

Anti-vax seems to be pretty nonpartisan. There are a LOT of nonreligious left-wing folks on board that particular train.

you got your libertarian antivax who hates government mandates, your conservative antivax who thinks the vaccines have fetus parts, your hippie anti-vax who thinks vaccines are full of evil chemicals and other leftwing antivax who are afraid that vaccines will give you autism (actually that last one pretty much covers all political spectrum of the antivax groups, they think vaccines will give you autism or cancer or something like that). antivaxers date all the way back to the 19th century.

All the way back when the first smallpox vaccine was made using cowpox (the very first vaccine ever if I remember right), there were political cartoons showing cows growing out of the vaccination sites. I saw one in a history text back in high school.

Edit: I looked it up : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_vaccines. So antivaxers actually date all the way back to the 18th century (just barely).

18th century[edit]

1796 First vaccine for smallpox (the first vaccine ever developed)

Edit 2: Found an image similar to the one I remember; it might be the same one. (Seems to be from 1802 so back to the 19th century,)

sad, but the picture shows just how irrational people get when they do not understand something. don't get me wrong. a healthy dose of skepticism is good and it helps to keep people and their governments honest, but sometimes people do the dumbest shit that works aganst their best interest because their gut and/or god tells them to do it.

Because people who lived 200 years...no, 2000 years ago were so much smarter than us.

Alright, I agree but I think we're taking this in the wrong direction... I wasn't tryign to attack religions, but as ciega said, my point was against ignorance of the unknow, when there's fear or little knowledged they would easy believe anything against it. So I'm afraid because I want this to happen, I want freedom (... with responsability), but a big movement cant delay progress a lot and I need this in my lifetime.

Just imagine a life born from 2 woman or 2 men, the first child of the new era.

@Serenata - i don't think (at least i hope) no thinks this is an attack against religion. i admit that i added the god-comment, but i did so to point out how "some" ppl just don't use facts. so my bad if this one statement rubs anyone the wrong way or offends.

you and i both. ya know, i used to joke with my ex that i totally wanted to be her baby momma. now granted, that didn't go over too well with her and if we were still together, i'm sure she'd be sweating bullets. sooo, changes in science like this still gives me hope and i'm hoping sooner than later.

@everyone - if this technology were applicable and made available this year, would you use it to have a child with your wife/husband/significant other?
