Vote with your wallet, blow up an MPAA office.

Wallets are explosive? Guess I better start stocking up on those since they're so much cheaper than grenades.

Aaaaand that's plenty of that since this isn't a "let's hate on TV Tropes" thread but rather a "let's panic about copyright" thread. Just pushing folks back in the general direction of the topic, don't mind me.

Good point, (althought that sounds like a great idea for another topic) let's just hope that this godarmn idiotic idea doesn't gets any further

The Japan Playwrights Association, the Japan Theatrical Producers Association, and the Japan Theatre Arts Association jointly issued an appeal, opposing the Japanese government’s participation in the TPP negotiations. Their appeal expresses strong concern that controversial issues on intellectual property rights are negotiated without any prior public debate in Japan.

Yoji Sakate, chairman of the Japan Playwrights Association, warns that if copyright protection is extended to 70 years, many scripts will become orphaned works unable to be utilized as theatrical productions, thus becoming unused treasures. They are urging the government to disclose all the information which indicates both the merits and demerits of joining the TPP talks, and to have officials promise to withdraw from the negotiations if they turn out to be detrimental to Japan’s national interests.

there will be a lot of more damage than just doujinshi

Thank you for bumping. Somewhat same situation with EU+US and the TTIP or whatever it's called this time. It's all about corporate power over individual and democracy. As fucked up as the world politics are, this is likely to pass.. so we'll be seeing what it actually means :| :?

Everything about TTIP is kept secret.
Hell... even "I know it all" Wikileaks is asking for it along with a reward up to 500,000 Euros.

Rumours about stuff like food safety being tossed out off the window, unfair competition all make me scared.
And hiding this whole process behind closed doors isn't making it any better.

At least TTIP isn't going to be signed anytime soon.

It saddens me how helpless I am personally when it comes to this issue. I don't have a whole lot of power in the world. All I can do is just hold onto a tiny speck of optimism. From what I've heard, the deal is unpopular with American lawmakers, at least, so it might have some trouble going through Congress. I'm scared about this too, but all we can do at this point is hope politicians see what a horrible, horrible idea this whole thing was.

There's a new sheriff in town in Canada too, and it remains to be seen what he thinks of it. His party's been taking a bit more centre-leftward over the past few years than it traditionally was, which might be a good sign.
