It’s too early to throw in the towel. I’ve been in reddit threads all day and one journalist said Esmel had paired endings. They simply don’t have an s rank anymore (for anyone) and instead it’s something you pick towards the end. Pretty sure both Engage and Three Hopes did something like this with you using an item. That’s said, Eshmel basically has very little to do with the story until the third act so even with that it won’t feel like Edeleth.

Yes Three Houses basically had this, they just gave you "S rank" for the one you picked. But I'm at the prologue for now and I'm getting the gist of what's gonna happen mechanically so yeah I have to agree it's unlikely to feel the same. It's fine, if the characters are good, artists and writers will fill the void.
