This. The Bestiality tag almost seems like a gag.

I guess I’ve been spelling this word wrong all my life. I thought it was “beastiality” and assumed “bestiality” must have been a play on the term “besties” or something. I have never been so disappointed

you and me both. i thought there might have been some weird joke going on, so I checked the spelling for both (ok, I googled it). what's funny is search results for 'beastiality' returned sites like EH, porn hub and such, but results for 'bestiality' returned sites like Merriam Webster (e.g. dictionary sites), Wikipedia pages, and various news sites. because there were a lot more results returned, i'm going out on a limb and assuming more people think it's spelled 'beastiality'.

damn, now i feel both dumb and let down.

Both words (as well as bestiary) come from the same Latin root, bestia, so there's not really a reason to feel dumb. It's just a bizarre inconsistency characteristic of the bastard language that is English, and I suspect beastiary/beastiality will eventually become the accepted spelling just as beast did, considering just how prolific this spelling is.
