We see plenty of those. We just call them "singer-songwriters" these days.
Besides, Maki here is wealthy because she's from a rich family, independent of her profession. It was the standard way of life for nobles to fully indulge themselves in culture (literature, art, music, drama, etc) with the free time and security granted by their wealth.
