Possibly! I'm also hoping it streams on Disney+. Since it's by Hulu, it looks well-budgeted based on the trailer, so it should be good. :D

On another note, I've noticed that yuri manga with adult themes or settings are usually adapted into drama series rather than anime. It's pretty nice since it makes the story feel more realistic. Examples include Ayaka Is in Love with Hiroko! and now Even Though We're Adults. If Pinky Candy Kiss ever gets an adaptation, I hope it becomes a drama series too. ^u^

I know for Cooks/Eats it fit into the mainstream women’s programming tv time block and was well received. AyaHiro was on late night tv where it was broadcast (strangely available in some cities but not others on tv) tho mainly was meant for streaming on demand anyway where it did great. Looking forward to how this Hulu release does and what the budget looks like. I’ve been buying the manga here and there but it’s been ages since I read the first volume from my stack so far. I need to prioritize it.

Trying to imagine an adaptation for Pinky Candy Kiss, I picture a movie instead. Although it's not finished (or at least not fully translated idk its publication status) so that could change. I just know that author has a movie based on one of her other works.

Pinky Candy Kiss is only four volumes so far, vs the ten (finished) volumes of Even Though We're Adults, but i don't see that story coming to a halt any time soon.

You're right! I just realized that in Pinky Candy Kiss and Even Though We're Adults, one of the love interests is married. I think it adds a kind of forbidden love feel to the story. They're in love with someone who's already married, which creates a barrier. But, as seen in Even Though We're Adults, that barrier is crossed with the cheating aspect. :)

In Japan when you're "older" marriage seems to be an unavoidable discussion and presence. I think that's the reason. It's either someone is married for various reasons, or someone has the spector of marriage hanging over them. It ends up being in the story one way or the other.

Because if you're having your gay awakening well into life previously living as a supposedly normal hetero, then the odds of you being in a comphet relationship is high, and part of the heteronormative prescriptive life journey is inevitably marriage. It's common in fiction because it's sadly common in real life, although thankfully getting less so with the youngest generations as people are less likely to need until they're in their 30s to finally crack that egg, thanks to mainstream queer representation and the Internet connecting social minorities more easily than in the past.

Edit: and this is not remotely a Japan specific pattern or problem, especially for bi people, as both characters on Pinky Candy Kiss pretty explicitly are.

now that I've finally finished reading the manga, I am really looking forward to seeing how it's put on the sreen, because the tenth volume contains some meta narrative, where one of their friends makes a mockumentary about their life, and one of Ayano'a former students writes a story about the whole mess, while trying to understand it

Also, I'm going to slyly retract my previous opinion, because the fact that this story started out with the mess that it did is what makes it this unique story. It's a story about how messy life is. And I think it's beautiful.

Plus the kids' storyline is integral to the central point of the story--it doesn't really work without them. They even give one of the kids the "title drop" moment. I'm also looking forward to how the series is handled in live action, especially after how well "Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko" has been handled (apparently with a new season coming).
