What I really like is how Yuuka is depicted. Nice, but a real gadfly whose second-greatest joy in life is teasing people (the greatest for her is talking to and taking care of flowers, of course). Contrast that with all the "psychopathic monster" depictions of the same character.
I agree- I much prefer her like this and other doujins where she is still super powerful and yes capricious and somewhat selfish and loves to fight and cause some trouble too- BUT - not a total psycho just interested in nothing but all out fighting and attacking people and proving herself the strongest, and even seemingly unhinged etc.
I think that depiction of her is not accurate to cannon. She used to have her own mansion- she takes care of plants etc- she clearly has a calmer more rational side, and I think is capable of being friendly and helping someone out like she did here - she isn't being altruistic- this was just what she wanted to do and she enjoyed it. She got to help out someone she made a bit of a connection to- she got to danmaku, and she got to lecture satori and set her right- all things she knew she'd enjoy.
I think its just easier for people to use her and write her as just a shallow character who just wants to attack people, its an easy way to just jump to action., It takes effort to consider how she must be more than that.
I think this story did it really well.
