Another series I've had sitting in my "To Read" folder for a while. Loved the story, loved the characters, hated the end. Only because of the time skip, though. The way the relationship between the main characters was resolved is fine, but there were too many loose threads. (Rio's story, for one. And then there was also Rio's story. Not to mention Rio's story...) There are manga that end on a time skip where it feels planned. Run Away with Me, Girl is a great example. This one just felt like it got axed with no warning. Not that the last chapter felt incomplete in itself, just that it should have been chapter 29 instead of 23.

(Sorry for being down on it. My pet bunny just died. Was looking for something to raise my spirits. Maybe I should come back and clean this up when I'm feeling less depressed.)

Edit (over 1.5 years later): Reread it from the beginning while in a happier mood. Enjoyed the ending much more this time. Still wish time skips were a little less common in manga endings, but it's the right ending for these two.

Adachi and Shima need some organizational help.
Leaving Azure 2 (Ch27.2) leads to the April Fools' chapter (Ch25*) then to Leaving Azure 3 (Ch27.3).

They're honest now that they're in a relationship. What would be accomplished by going back and "confessing" that they once had "ulterior motives"?

What's being rewarded is not the "messed up behavior" but the fact that they're confronting and dealing with their feelings as they developed.

I've been thinking for a while now that the Blackmail tag really only applies to the first couple volumes. Even if they're not "together" by the end of chapter 10, they've certainly moved beyond using each other dishonestly.

Thank you @princess_daphie for delivering another superb chapter! I know this isn't common fare at Dynasty these days, but I think all of us regular readers really appreciate your efforts.

Thinking about that ^ exchange a bit more, I realize that this may be the first time Sakurako has expressed a desire for something more out of their relationship. She's always saying things like she's happy just being with Kasumi or doing things that make Kasumi happy, and she resisted labeling their relationship with an it-is-what-it-is attitude. But I think this is the closest she's ever come to saying that she'd like to receive some affection, too. In a way, it may be the first time she's acknowledged Kasumi as an equal in their relationship instead of as an idol.

(Which may all have already been brought up in discussion, but I'm not wading back through all of those pages to check.)

I've often thought that one of the big advantages to adoption (depending on timing) was being able to skip the diaper phase. But with the vibes Rio gives off, it seems like she'll have them dealing with plenty of her shit.

[...] as long as negative comments are actually constructive criticism [...]

See, to me, constructive criticism isn't negative at all. It's a great starting point for discussion or disagreement, but it's positive because you can build on it. I see negative comments as the ones that don't leave room to build.

When I don't like something, I will try to leave a comment explaining why, especially when it's something that's getting effusive praise. The biggest reason is exactly because I want others who feel similarly to not feel like they are alone or that there's something wrong with them for not liking it. (Admittedly, I do that more for anime than on Dynasty.)

That said, experience (sometimes from handling things the wrong way) has taught me some rules:
1. Likes and dislikes are subjective. It's never, "This story sucks!" It should always be, "I didn't like this because..."
1a. Even if it is subjective, do try to provide a reason or two.
2. Own your feelings. Recognize that your opinion is driven by your personal experiences and views, which some others will almost undoubtedly share. Never criticize how someone else feels about a story; this effectively criticizes their experiences and identity, which is never constructive.
3. Don't comment on something that simply isn't your type of story, For Dynasty, it's kind of an extension of Rule 10: if you're reading something and decide it isn't your thing, just recognize that there is no way you can judge it on merit and walk away.
3a. But if you're reading something that isn't usually your thing and you are enjoying it, go ahead and leave a positive note. :-)

Edit: 3b. Say your piece and move on. Returning to complain every time a new chapter/episode drops is the same as commenting on an objectionable tag, IMO, and is totally rude to the fans and scanlators.

Admittedly, it can feel rather vindicating to criticize something on chapter one, get totally torched for it, then check back a few years later to find many of the comments complaining about the very things you predicted. (No, totally hypothetical! Why do you ask?)

Apparently I stopped reading this right before the camping trip arc. Man, did I miss out on a sweet payoff with the four of them team-working that bonfire. Gab-chan: "...the perfect crime." Glad I came back to it.

Read this page for more information on the connotations the term "yuri" has in Japan that it usually doesn't in the Western fanbase.

Um.

Keep in mind: that conversation took place ~13 years ago. Not saying that definitions have changed, but no reason to assume they haven't, especially when you're looking at generational differences.

(Not to derail the discussion, but I'm going to talk about the chapter...)

OMG, and once again, Mitsuki repeats a line spoken earlier by shop "dude". Get a clue Aya-san!

Edit: Ah, I see I missed a lot of discussion around ch18. Plus, the chapter title helps. I guess she got clued.

I am a bit confused about Dynasty's homepage's sections.
I am not sure what's the difference between the two sections I squared below.

Imgur

I have long assumed both sections are "Recently Added" but the left section include thumbnails and tags, while the right section doesn't. Today I realized the two sections don't display the same chapters.

I hope this is not a silly question!

Not a silly question at all!

It would be more accurate to say that the items on the left (with thumbnails) are recently released and items on the right (text only) are recently added to the site. The difference is that the releases are when the chapter was first made available by the scanlator. For example, the items in your screen-capture were added to Dynasty on Aug.17, 2022, but their release dates are in 2020 an 2021.

I really do wonder how Kei and Michiru got together in the first place. Maybe he just wanted a beard/pressure into having children? A one night stand?

My impression is that Kei was bi, like Nico, Michiru, and Maya. (Though technically I don't think we've ever seen confirmation that Kei returned Nico's romantic feelings, though he obviously cared a lot about him.) I think they legitimately fell in love with each other; as evidenced by Nico too, Kei's type seems to have been immature people he can take care of, lol.

As far as the Kei/Nico relationship, we kind of get their back story starting from this page. Seems pretty clear it was mutual. In the other hand, Nico is such a player!

Blastaar posted:

Seriously, I have never figured out what people who hate the Yukino cheating part want to have happened--her getting burned at the stake? Setsuko denouncing Yukino to all her friends?

I had similar conversation in different thread. I get people not liking that MC of yuri manga slept with guy (purity crowd) and idea of cheating in general, which is understandable and is something that is a big no-no for me as well. But regardless of w/e it was justified or not (hot-take, I think Yukino did nothing wrong), I agree I don't know what else people expected to happen. They cleared misunderstanding, they talked about it, they accepted what happened, but decided to stick together and work on improving their relationship, so nothing like that happens again. Saying it didn't matter, wasn't addressed and there was no punishment or consequences is just plain wrong. Makes me feel like we read different manga.

Having been cheated on by someone going through a bit of an identity crisis, I really connect to that arc on a visceral level. It's rough reading it while mentally reliving the worst period of my life, so I get why some people might react so negatively to it. Having had that experience, part of what makes it tough to read is that it is somewhat realistic given the characters' ages and experiences. At the same time, that's also why I can empathize with the characters and the way they choose to move past it instead of letting it end their relationship.

For a relationship to survive something like this, two things need to happen: (1) you can't dwell on it or constantly remind your partner, and (2) you need a promise that it will never happen again. Trusting that promise is probably the tougher part. But perhaps the first is why some feel like it's not fully addressed? I feel like the story addresses both of these points rather well.

A wild wingman appears!

... On second thought, this one appears pretty domestic. Maybe gay? I feel like that could explain a couple things, like how he'd notice their relationship in the first place.

Is their relationship Subtext or Innuendo?

Edit: regarding "dropped", on the credits page it says, "but right now I don't plan to keep working on this series!"
