I wouldn't say they're particularly hostile. It just seems that the admin is being overly cautious of not wanting to step on the author's toes or run into any copyright problems. They also mentioned wanting to direct as much traffic to the authors site as possible as another reason they don't want unofficial translations being promoted. Oh well, their loss.

What copyright problems could possibly arise for a discord server mentioning translations about a freely available web novel?
And what toes of the author are being stepped on?
"Oh no! I only want Japanese reading my freely available web novel! How dare those filthy gaijins translate it so others can enjoy it!"
Ha...fat chance!
It's hypocritical. Pretending to care about unofficial translations when just about everyone on there is reading a translation of some form, whether it's an automated translation via google translate or ChatGPT or an actual human TL.
I've never seen that attitude taken by anyone that follows a WN...because we all realize we're reading translations (except for a select few Japanese fluent).
The more I think about it the more annoyed I get. I won't be going there. Tis a silly place.

When there's no official translations available for something, unofficial ones are only a good thing. These translations bring eyeballs to a work from people who would otherwise not care about it. Some even buy merch that they'd otherwise have no interest in, putting money into the author's pocket that they wouldn't otherwise have.
It also shows there is a demand in a foreign language for a work, potentially increasing the likelihood that it could be officially licensed in that language.

Hey, hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just repeating what I read lol. But I agree, you would think any way to bring more notice to the novel would be a good thing.

My bad. I promise my rant wasn't directed at you at all. I had to post it somewhere because I didn't want to be rude by showing up in someone else's server and immediately bitching at them.

I basically showed up and asked the same questions LOL Confused me as much as it confuses you.
Anyway, part 79 is on its way... tomorrow, heh.

Yeah but I imagine you were more diplomatic about it haha. I wouldn't be out to understand them or change hearts and minds with my bitching as much as I'd be trying my best to tear their views to shreds.
Well I suppose we'll live without an update for now. ;)
I'm having a lot of luck in Star Rail with my pulls so I've got that to occupy me in the meantime.

Ooh, I just started playing that recently and it's really damn fun. But between playing that on my phone and Genshin Impact on the big screen I'll probably stick with GI. But Star Rail will be a good time killer when I'm not at home at least.
Not long after I started playing I randomly found this animated short. The art and choreography and music in it are beautiful.

Hey... I'm gonna need some of that luck for Topaz (already guaranteed for Lingsha...)
So I decided to reread again because the ePub file makes it so easy, and I have no life, and I totally forgot how Miyagi was in the beginning. Compared to where the story currently is she was actually normal and even frequently smiled at Sendai, even if it was only when she was being nasty to her, lol. There was even the time she was being really friendly and chatting with her and they played a video game together. I think Angela's most recently translated chapter, 79, is the grumpiest she's been to Sendai up to that point in the story. The way Miyagi is now I can't even imagine her talking to Sendai without frowning. I'm starting to think Miyagi's grumpiness is proportional to her love for Sendai. It's almost like the more she realizes she loves her the worse her mood gets.
I love that Sendai doesn't actually like the necklace that much lol. It wouldn't feel right for their relationship if she picked up the pendant and everything was perfect.

I don't know if we can read that as her disliking it (hopefully). The necklace "felt a bit too cute for my taste. It seemed like it would probably suit Miyagi better". And as we know, Sendai will quickly grow very attached to the necklace since it's a gift from Miyagi.

I think a lot of the extra grumpiness in this chapter comes from Miyagi putting herself out there to give Sendai the necklace and fearing rejection. That Sendai won't like it or want to wear it or something similar. Miyagi is feeling insecure and lashing out as a self-defense mechanism.
But yeah I bet future Miyagi would be embarrassed by this past Miyagi's over the top grumpiness.

Ah damnit I'll need tons of luck for that too since I desperately need a 5 star healer and I really want Topaz! And giving me even more incentive to pull for them is I can get eidolons for Lil Gui, who might be my favorite character.
I don't know how many other people felt this way when reading the MTL (I don't read it anymore or read ahead at all for that matter), but personally, I thought Miyagi seemed way colder and expressionless in it. I was also under the impression that Sendai was a super saint cranked up to the max, but it turns out that Miyagi has more feelings than I expected and Sendai can get really annoyed. Maybe I'll give the MTL a reread up to where I'm at (79).

That's EXACTLY the case. It's been awhile since I've read the early chapters of the MTL but I definitely don't remember many instances in it of Miyagi showing a lot of emotion, maybe that was just down to poor translation. But I just got done reading through the ePub version and with your translation it definitely paints her in a much different light. I totally forgot how expressive she was in the beginning compared to how she is currently in the story. Hope that's not too much of a spoiler.

I hope so too, but this being the first time I've read a proper translation of that chapter it kind of went down different than I remembered. I was kind of disappointed in Sendai that she didn't have anything to say about the pendant. She gave no opinion at all of whether she liked it or thought it was nice or not. And then she kind of rudely closed the box back up without even asking if she could put it on or anything. I was kind of viewing this scene through Miyagi's eyes and cringing pretty hard thinking "oh God she hates it." I guess Miyagi didn't see it that way, thankfully, as she opened the box back up and forced her to put it on in the end. But yes, some of us know it ended up becoming one of her most prized possessions.

MTL Miyagi: "I am a cold, emotionless being who will sometimes show small traces of care and affection for Sendai"
Amawashi TL Miyagi: "I act distant because I'm scared of Sendai leaving and to hide my insecurity, but Sendai keeps making me drop my mask to show I actually do care about her."
The coldness she treats Sendai with is still there, but milder. And the reasoning behind her behavior is much clearer.
I don't see as much difference with Sendai.

Almost forgot about the latest WN chapter. 353 is up: https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054894027232/episodes/16818093085266469379
"Someday, I hope everything we use will be chosen by Miyagi. If everything around me was touched by her, I’m sure I’d be even happier."
Not the craziest Sendai thought, but still a bit wacky.
I had previously said that Miyagi's catchphrase is "You talk to much, Sendai-san", but this chapter brought to my attention she probably says "you're annoying, Sendai-san" more often.
And of course Sendai's is "You're so stingy, Miyagi".

When I translated it through chatGPT "touched" was translated as "chosen." Makes a little more sense. Sendai wants everything she sees in their apartment to have been picked out by Miyagi so she's always reminded of her.
And about the catch phrase, I like to think that Miyagi's is "you're an erotic demon Sendai-san" lol

Ah that does make more sense. Although there is a certain charm in it being another one of those "crazy Sendai thoughts" where she treats every object Miyagi touches in their home as sacred, like it's been blessed by a deity or something.

Ah that's a great one too! She's been using that one more since they got to college. She has several go-to phrases, whereas Sendai tends to stick to good ole reliable "you're so stingy, Miyagi".

いつか私たちが使うものすべてが、宮城が選んだものになればいいと思う。私の周りのすべてを宮城で染めることができたら、きっともっと幸せになれる。
It'd be nice if one day, everything we used was something picked out by Miyagi. If everything around me became dyed in Miyagi, I'm sure I'd be even happier.
That'd be the more literal translation (not me taking a break at the gym, lol).
染める means to stain or to dye, so you could also make a case for it being, "dyed in Miyagi's colors" to make it sound more poetic.

Thanks for the translation! So, it is indeed a Sendai crazy thought! Silly Sendai wants their apartment to be as saturated in Miyagi as possible! I worry she'll soon reach the point of not wanting to wash things that Miyagi touches because it will wash off the lingering traces of Miyagi.

Decided to give part 80 of the MTL a read since it was what I just released, but... I don't even know what I'm reading.
Right near the beginning, for some reason, you have Miyagi saying,
「I’ll know when I see it.」
which leads into,
I would have asked for feedback, not permission to touch, but Miyagi’s hand reaches out as if it were a matter of course. I didn’t expect Miyagi to say it looked good on me, even though I was flattered, so I assumed I wouldn’t get any feedback.
I can overlook grammar inconsistencies for the most part - hell, I'll even let things that are worded improperly slide, but the translation itself being so poor is egregious. Even without knowing a lick of Japanese, the whole, "I didn’t expect Miyagi to say it looked good on me, even though I was flattered, so I assumed I wouldn’t get any feedback," part just doesn't make sense.
「If it’s shorter than this, it looks like school.」
What?
「Schools are not within the scope of the order.」
Come again?
I know.
About no concessions need to be made.
Miyagi did not ask me to do so.
So the order does not work.
I know, but my mouth moves on its own.
You may know, but I don't know.
The ornament is small and is tantamount to a kiss on the chest, but the lips are pressed against the small object to show that it is meant to be touched.
Interesting...
「That’s part of it, but it might fly in the face of reason.」
...「I’m in pain, though.」
「You do that.」
「Order?」
「I’m not giving you an order.」
Well...
I don't know if the other MTL chapters are like this, but it just seems... more unreadable than I expected. Like I said, I can overlook grammar inconsistencies and awkward wording, but it's so jarring when there's dialogue or passages that straight up don't make sense. I don't know how you guys managed to read so much of it. To me, I just feel like all I'm getting from it is, "oh, they kissed in chapter 34," or, "oh, Miyagi gave her a necklace in chapter 79," but nothing more.

Welcome to the MTL experience! I've long said I'm not reading the MTL nearly as much as I'm "interpreting" the MTL.
To further shock you, the text you've selected is actually better written than most of the MTL. This one probably had a quick editing pass to fix the most egregious errors, but most of the chapters seem to be just copy/pasted without any changes. Even super easy to correct stuff like misgendered pronouns are left intact.
ChatGPT does a better job than Google Translate, but it seems to be only at the level of "MTL with a bit of editing" to eliminate obvious mistakes.
Yay! You're at Chapter 80 now! https://amawashigroup.wordpress.com/2024/09/25/part-80-what-i-want-to-do-with-miyagi-and-what-miyagi-wants-to-do-iv/
Really been on a roll lately!

Ch. 80 is another top tier chapter. Sendai ruminating on the desire for ownership that's motivating Miyagi to give her that necklace is followed by our favorite Shuukura pastime: Gay Chicken!
Sendai lost this one though. Pretty sure Sendai ended things where she did because she was miffed about Miyagi shortchanging her on the kiss. Sendai's "You're so stingy, Miyagi" was left unsaid.
I feel like it's been a while since we've had any gay chicken in the recent JP chapters. Hoping that changes soon, and I'm optimistic the festival date might lead to some.
