Honestly, as someone who usually doesn't enjoy reading about toxic relationships and characters, I actually weirdly liked this one?
Like obviously it would be good if they both communicated, and the way both are like, trying to control the other in different but equally fucky ways isn't great, but I think the key thing that makes this one work for me over other toxic dynamics is that it's at least mutual; both are on equal grounds even if they themselves don't realize it. If it had been just the one girl forcing the other, I would have said burn it, but that this goes in both directions and both hold equal power here, makes it weirdly compelling to me. I would still hate to actually deal with them IRL, but idunno, this works for me somehow.
