Is evolution cliché? Saliva has mild healing properties, and it's an instinctive animal response, including in humans, to lick wounds. Hence the phrase 'to lick one's wounds'. Of course, if you care deeply about someone, that instinct will extend to nurturing their wounds too. Ever had a cat? They'll lick your wounds as well, at least if they deem you a suitably fit servant. It seems like a really strange thing to get bothered over.

That's it, nobody is allowed to be near each other in fictional stories anymore. It's too dangerous - you just can't rule out the possibility of time-traveling interdimensional viruses.

Maki worried about not being cute is probably the cutest Maki there is.

Regarding the licking wounds thing, saliva is a natural analgesic, but since it's generally just a bad idea to ingest other people's blood the trope can be (quite justifiably) off-putting. Hopefully they've gotten their hepatitis shots. :P
