I'm not saying people can't be interested in stuff, and I'm certainly not saying they aren't allowed to make stuff, just wondering what happened that put it back into the public eye. Usually when a series gets a lot of attention it's because of a recent development, not many shows just suddenly and spontaneously double their fanbase for no reason.

This situation is so gay that she even sprouts a bonus one.

The manga introduced a lot of new regular characters and shifted genre over the past few volumes. The story has moved from "cringe comedy" to "slice of life with a side of cringe," which has attracted a much wider audience.

Also all of the new characters are girls and the yuri subtext went through the roof. Except for Ucchi, who skipped subtext and went flat out gay for Tomoko.

There are a lot of untranslated YoshiMaru all over the internet. It's the most popular LLS ship in Japan (the tag has around 50% more results in Pixiv than YoshiRiko or KanaMari, which is damn huge). Mezashi just makes the best YoshiMaru doujins, so her works are translated more often.
