I suspect it was distilled water. Seems unlikely there'd be that volume of chemicals just sitting there in an open container.

The jar thing... such an unfortunate implication. I think it's just some bad way to say I think you are a work of art and I want to keep you for myself. Possesion seems like a theme in this shot, with blondie bullying her love because she doesn't want anyone to touch her, so I guess ending that way isn't irrelevant.
