I like the guy friend well enough as a character, but does he really have to be more of a main character than the girlfriend?
I will mention on this point that this manga is more so about Himeno and her interactions with the people in her life (there are more characters later on besides Hajime) rather than just strictly being about her and Yoru's love life, if that wasn't clear already.
Granted, even when she's talking to someone else about some other topic it often wraps back around to being about Yoru in some way so...
There are multiple chapters about Yoru and/or the two together though (reminder we got 82 chapters to go)
I think part of why Hajime is so prominently featured too is that the author is primarily a BL writer, and Hajime actually existed in their doujins before Himeno came into existence, so he's sort of a foundational character for this universe. There's even an entire BL manga set in this same universe that's just about him where Himeno is just a small side character. So that's why I think the author wanted him to have an important role in this manga, as Hajime is clearly a dear character to the author.
But yeah I wanted to mention all this so people don't have the wrong expectations. You should consider this more of a slice of life kind of thing where romance is a bit more secondary (though it still plays a major role at multiple points)
I just saw this comment but the author is not primarily a BL writer, she doesn’t have much mangas (but all of them are romance) her first work was this (2021) and then she used Hajime and realesed a spin-off (2022) and her lastest work is a het romance (2024)
She's actually talked on twitter about this topic (wish I could find the tweets again) and essentially she doesn't really consider herself a BL author, but rather just wants to draw whatever she feels like drawing, whether that's gay couples, lesbian couples, straight couples, or no couples.
The reason a lot of people made this confusion is because, for a good while, all she really did was post Hajime & Yotsuhashi (the BL spin off) content. In fact, she was so into it that she made an entire separate, independent version on pixiv because she liked them so much (which she has now entirely deleted because fans were concerned about its problematic nature in some aspects, namely NTR). For context, Hime-chan hardly got any love outside of its serialization. There were a few art posts but nothing much and 2 epilogue chapters on fanbox, which only came after fans begged the author for them (and she was rather hesitant initially about drawing them).
When 80% of your posts are BL you tend to get seen as a BL author. Only recently has she started 2 new serializations which are not BL and finally broken out of that image.
Though with regards to her latest work; it is het, yes (one of the MCs is in a het abusive relationship) but I also feel it will explore other orientations later down the line because the protagonist is essentially a love advisor and the shtick of the manga is that people from all walks of life come to her to solve their relationship problems. I suspect we'll have gay/lesbian folks coming sooner or later (it's only 3 chapters in so too early to tell). I'm actually really tempted to translate it if it does turn out that way but I'm waiting a few more chapters just to be sure.

They are so cute for thinking the same thing.
Good series, MC is very lucky to have such a caring GF.
MC is self-aware and knows about her anxiety problems but she seems to be dealing with them, hopefully she can learn to deal with it easier in the future when they finally move in together in a new house (Saves more money that way...They should start practicing living together in a couple years later to work out any bugs or living habits problems that they can encounter like snoring, at least a year before get their new house to...save more money...Rent and housing cost is expensive nowadays XD)
Wish Himeno told Yoru… like, she’s also a victim in her pic being taken, she doesn’t like being referred to as a man, the chick was just showing her off— how does that lead to Himeno just leaving it alone??
It would’ve been better to tell Yoru, and if she doesn’t care then it’s fine to let it go, but if she does care, then she (Yoru) could get the chick to delete the post and they’ll both feel better after. Can’t see why letting the weirdo go would be the best option
