It's an interesting theory, but remember Akira has done SOMETHING in the past that she feels wicked guilty about and thinks that because of whatever it is she can never approach Ayako romantically. It has never given me the impression that anything ever actually happened between them was romantic, other than Akira being creepy and clingy.

I'm not really impressed with this chapter at all. Meh. At least hopefully we'll soon figure out the history between Ayako and Akira.

That was totally my reaction upon seeing that page too: "Who the fuck keeps their sugar in their refrigerator?" I guess I've just never had ant problems.

When I lived in Florida we kept a lot of stuff in the fridge that I never did prior. Sugar was one, so was cereal and bread. Sometimes to avoid bugs, like with the sugar, and others to avoid mold, since the humidity was so bad stuff like bread would go bad in less than a week otherwise. But till then I'd never seen such a thing so I thought it was weird at first too, lol

Yeah either the first chapter is a flash forward or a flash back. And yeah that marriage we see is definitely some sort of sham, either it's a fake implemented to keep our protag confused enough to stay under control, or it's "legit" but for the wrong reasons.

My reaction isn't knee-jerk. I personally hate seeing that trope show up regardless of the author's intention in showing it, because I have lived through similar crap and despise it, even when I understand the origin or purpose. Not every reaction from someone is from a place of deeper meanings or failure to see them.

Yes, it's quite common. Usually rolled omelette is made either savory or sweet. Uno likes savory, Satou likes sweet. :)

I think mostly it was just that Hara was obviously uncomfortable and the "school friend" was clearly being loud, obnoxious and rude.

But it also had the added bonus of "plot furtherance" because it seemed to be the impetus for our dorky MC to realize she shouldn't leap to be automatically defensive to such questions, and that she needed to stop thinking the way that the old "friend" clearly was. While the "old friend" clearly saw Hara being gay as more like an act at a Freak Show than something that's normal, and I don't think MC DOES, I think MC also still hadn't quite come to accept things as not being abnormal, either.
