I remember when RWBY first started and one of my first thoughts was that the animation was so terrible and blocky I didn't get my hopes up but after episode 2 I got used to it and everything fit smoothly. I love nearly everything about it, so much that I can't even really think about what I DON’T like. However, I do think that I'm fortunate to have stopped watching at volume 3 episode 7 (mainly because I was waiting for an update then decided to wait longer for more episodes) before everything just turns to shit. I can't make a judgment because I haven't watched anything since V3E7 and I can say that I hear more hate than love after V3. Personally, I think a lot of backlash was made because of the death of a fan fav, Monty's death and how it was no longer him who was making the story, and a change of story shortly after (it gets more dark/real). I had so much negative views on RWBY after V4 without watching it until a friend I had forced to watch RWBY told me he loved it, even the seasons and episodes after Monty's death. Although there is a significant fall of fights and more dialog, he told me he really enjoyed the insights and trauma everyone had to dealt with... In great lengths.
Overall, it's a great show to watch but to each their own.
Oh. And I mainly followed RWBY afterwards because I was waiting for the bumbleby/white rose ship to become canon.
