It's tagged under Love Live Perfect Dream Project now, when it should be the opposite...

Update: tags have been merged properly now, so all PDP things are now properly labeled as Niji.

Tagging should be consistent for this series IMO:

This one is tagged under Love Live! Nijigasaki Academy School Idol Club, which is the current one used.

Images and previous comics are still tagged under Love Live Perfect Dream Project

Nijigasaki has its own proper name now (PDP was just the code name for LL All Stars before its release), so that's why I tagged it as such. Could suggest merging the PDP tag into Niji.

@Bugpope Korea has a thing where instead of just February 14 (Valentine's) and March 14 (White Day) being a romantic holiday, every 14th of the year has some kind of event. June 14 is Kiss Day (and also the day that this comic was originally posted by the artist). The notable exception is April 14, which is Black Day. On this day, single people go out to eat black bean noodles and commiserate over their loneliness.

And Kiss Day is exactly what it sounds like - you celebrate the day by kissing your significant other. Companies use this opportunity to market lipstick and breath mints.

The "liqour" store, huh? I'm glad I'm not the only one who's gotten confused about this spelling thanks to Aqours. :')

FYI, Shiitake is a girl. It's possible that some of the other dogs in LLS - Shiitake's puppies (one of them had a blue sweater so maybe that one's male?), Riko's dog Prelude, Wataame the café puppy - are males. Also, no idea if he counts because he's a mascot, but Uchicchii is male. For the µ's side, the white alpaca is male.

On the human side: in addition to Honoka's father and Nico's brother Cotaro (who only exists in the anime - IIRC the LL manga has Nico with younger twin sisters only), there's Chika's father (who appeared very briefly in S2E10) and a man who is possibly Riko's father (S2E12).

The description in the Pixiv link confirms that it's Riko. Also says something along the lines of the photo somehow getting out to the other members, and poor You-chan getting really embarrassed about it.

@Bugpope: The original pun is "Death Skewers". 죽음의 꽃이 피었다 (Jugeum-eui kkot-shi pieotda, lit. "The flower of death has bloomed") is the Korean term for Reaper's Death Blossom ability, and 꽃이 (kkott-shi; flower) happens to sound similar to 꼬치 (kko-chi; skewer, as in meat skewers). See here for an illustration. "Death Floss'em" is my awkward attempt at trying to localize this Death Blossom pun, since I didn't want to insert such a long TL note directly into the comic. TwT

@Eilerci Pito's early LLS stuff was ChikaYou-centered, and then it gradually shifted to YouRiko.

I love Rin's December SR...god bless Kurocan for drawing Rin in this outfit, her scarf and earmuffs make her look so fluffy and warm and cute aaaaah~

Also, it's hilarious how Maki goes from the pure and innocent girl who still believes in Santa to "Kids, maybe ( ≖_≖)ﻭ ✧" in a single page.

Edit: I knew that Maki's outfit seemed familiar, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it until I stared at her skirt design on the cover page, since the distinctive flower pattern isn't replicated within the doujin itself, and her SIF card has a teddy bear blocking a good chunk of the upper half of her outfit. It's her Promo Christmas UR!

Now to try and remember where I've seen Hanayo's outfit...

Edit #2: Finally realized that it wasn't a card from SIF - but from a song that was first previewed in the game. Hanayo's outfit is from the winter-themed cover of the Printemps album for "Eien Friends / Nightingale Love Song".

I'm very amused that the amount of time it took me to figure out these three corresponds with my usage of them in the game, i.e. Rin being my best girl, Christmas Maki being my first promo UR (and still a vital part of my admittedly weak Smile team), and the "Nightingale Love Song" token event being the first one I played from start to finish.

What light?

As Freya said, the original says "The river... I saw the river...", as in Korean culture (and others), "crossing the river" is a way to euphemistically refer to death. I didn't think that the literal TL would flow quite as well in English, so I decided to change it a bit.

After toying with other possible TLs like "I almost... crossed over...", I settled on the current form (the "light" being a reference to when people "see the light" during near-death experiences) - mainly because of space limitations. Korean is pretty space-efficient with its block characters so it can fit a lot more in tiny bubbles than English. :')

Am I the only one thinks the two women are Nozomi and Eli? I heard that they are adults during this period in time. Also, Pito likes NozoEli. If it's true, then that would mean You had sex with Nozomi.

Cool.

I really think it might be the case.

Pito captioned "Going Off Course" with "(Mob Warning)", which means that the older lady is a mob character (i.e. an OC). There's no harm if you wanna keep the Nozomi thing as a headcanon, though! :)

Msmusicful: Yup, it's You. Pito's drawn a bunch of futanari You and Kanan on Twitter, haha.

By the way, for those of you who loved this comic: I was lucky enough to catch Pito on Google Hangouts earlier (Pito announces drawing streams on Twitter every once in a while), and got excited when I saw a certain faceless onee-chan appear on a page. It was very enlightening to see how Pito did the composition of the pages on Photoshop and Sai, and how Pito went back and forth about what kind of dialogue and sfx to put into the comic to get the right kind of feel for the story. It also made me jealous as a scanlator who's had to struggle to teach myself how to clean and typeset, since all Pito had to do was turn off the layer for sfx whenever something needed to be redrawn. TBH, part of the reason I don't ask Pito if I can translate all of their comics is because I'm too lazy to typeset everything, haha.

Anyways - this means that Pito just released a continuation! This story takes place the day after the previous comic. Now I gotta take back what I said before about the ChikaYou thing, since this sequel pretty much establishes that You has a crush on Riko. Also, I'm extremely amused that my previous comment, about how Pito wrote this as a story of You hitting puberty, has suddenly become very relevant. :3c

Office lady calls her "girl in the cap" (though I don't even know if "girl" is in the original) when calling from behind. That's the only hint we have. It's very tenuous, but the You character doesn't deny it. It would be enough in any other circumstances.

This is probably not helping things (sorry...), but Japanese and Korean have non-gendered pronouns. The literal translation of what the lady said in the original Korean comic would be something like, "Hey kid! (You with the) Baseball cap!". This is pretty much why there was confusion over which pronouns to use for characters like Crona (Soul Eater) and Hange (Attack on Titan) when their respective series were adapted into English, since the original Japanese didn't even have to deal with that issue. Also made me laugh whenever I read Ouran High School Host Club fics with the plot twist of "oh noes someone slipped up and referred to Haruhi as 'she/her' so now our cover is blown", because the characters live in Japan - when would that problem ever happen?

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that Pito intended You to be seen as female, since the translation was approved and all. Plus, in all of the Pito comics that I've seen, I've yet to see one where the futa characters were meant to be interpreted as anything but female. I was under the impression that Pito tagged relevant tweets with "futanari warning" simply for the benefit of potential readers who didn't want to see their beloved Aqours characters being implied to have a dick. And yeah, if Pito saw this thread, I'd guess that their response would be something like "???? it's just You-chan as always, she just happens to have a penis".

The "did you let it all out" piece struck me as "did that help your frustration"...

That's literally what I said when I was screaming about this comic with a friend on Discord, haha. I'm sure it's no coincidence that it's juxtaposed with You's inner dialogue about how she was bottling up her feelings. I've always enjoyed how Pito's depicted You, whether as a lowkey player who hits on girls all the time (before you start pointing fingers at me, this description was lifted almost directly from a Pito tweet lol) or as an innocent and well-adjusted gal who can't stop blushing around her girlfriend.

While the manga and SIDs seem to depict You as a carefree and energetic girl, we did get to see a more complex side of her in the anime - particularly in Episode 11. It's always exciting to explore another side of a character - and it's all the more exciting if an artist depicts a side that's very different from the character's usual self, but somehow just makes it work. In my opinion, "Going Off Course" You is a great example of that. As the title says, she's straying from her usual persona of the perfect good girl, and in a way that feels in-character. The fact that You tends to clamp down on her feelings and just deal with whatever crap comes her way, and not discuss anything with her friends to boot is brought up in Episode 11, after all. This comic takes those feelings, cranks them up to 11, then steps back to let the chaos happen.

On the subject of the many faces of Pito's You-chan, this comic actually started out with Pito tweeting that it'd be nice to see a story where You belatedly hit puberty, and then adding, "I actually have a doujin planned out in my head already".

[To clarify - the Korean word for "puberty" can also mean "youth", as in that time of your adolescence when you go through puberty. Y'know, like the stuff you see in high school anime plots: becoming interested in boys/girls/etc., falling in love, dealing with confusing emotions, teen rebellion and mood swings in general, and so on. For example, whenever my cousin is being rebellious, my aunt literally says that he's "going through puberty", even though he's nearly 18. What she's technically saying is "he's in his rebellious youthful phase right now". So, Pito probably meant a story with You as a moody teen grappling with her emotions at a time when most of her peers would have found their balance, rather than a story where You literally deals with hormones and physical body growth and stuff.]

I love reading Pito's tweets, because there's usually a reply attached to the original drawing/comic that gives some background or unique insight into what's going on. For example, in this adorable childhood KanaMari image, you can see that Mari is impressed by Kanan's find and Kanan is happy to share it with her. But in a follow-up tweet, Pito explains what's really happening: Kanan is so tickled by how her new friend Mari always gives positive reactions to her discoveries that she excitedly looks for new things to show her all the time. In reality, Mari doesn't really like everything that Kanan brings to her - she just likes Kanan, period. BaKanan.

...whoops, sorry for the wall of text. tl;dr: alternative interpretations of You are awesome, and Pito has some great headcanons about the characters not just in the comics, but in tweets that follow those images as well.

The thing is, Pito is korean. Different languages have different perspectives; from their point of view, 'futanari' might just mean 'female character with a dick', rather than the specific definition for it we have in English.

As someone who can read Korean, I can clarify that Pito tags pretty much all of their comics where a character happens to have a dick with "futanari warning", and that most of the relevant Korean tweets I've seen (which I'll admit is limited mostly to LL stuff, so I could be biased here) use "futa" and "futanari" exclusively rather than "transgender". Thus, I'm pretty much in agreement with this:

Pito linked to the tumblr release on their twitter, and was in contact with the translators about the content of the doujin, including the tags.

Keep in mind that there is a language barrier; Pito described the work in korean. I personally feel it would be better to use the tags used on the tumblr, which got the approval of the original.

Which means yuri and transgender, not futanari.

So I guess that's that. Though, as someone said before, if Dynasty wants to use the "futanari" tag for the purposes of "this chick has a dick" instead of making a PC distinction, that's honestly fine with me.

And to try to steer things a little back on course here (haha), I'll quote what I said before:

If you compare this comic to a previous Pito comic with a somewhat similar setting, you can see that Pito sometimes depicts You as a bit of a player who fools around with girls for stress relief. That previous comic, plus the ending of "Going Off Course" kinda makes me think that you could put a one-sided YouChika spin on this (i.e. You-chan sleeping around to deal with her squashed-down feelings for Chika).

Am I the only one who read this comic with a ChikaYou perspective in mind? ( ; v ; )

And if y'all are interested in more futa Aqours, Pito draws a lot of it (usually for YouRiko, or KanaMari/DiaKanaMari) on Twitter, lol. The futa is only hinted at (You: KANAN-CHAAAAN! Do you, uh, have a...con...dom?) or heavily censored, though.

Why does she say zura?

Because LLS needed a token girl with a cute accent/verbal tic Like Nozomi, who speaks in a mixture of Kansai-ben and Tokyo-ben, Hanamaru's speech is a mix of Tohoku-ben and Tokyo-ben. Not 100% certain because I'm no Japanese expert, but at least from what I've gathered from general observations and cliches, Tohoku-ben is supposed to sound like slow country speech, which would fit Maru's old-fashioned personality. Nozomi's accent is explained as a result of her moving around a lot during her childhood. For Maru, it's because she lives at a temple that's been run by her family for generations, and (at least in the SIDs and Dengeki G's universe) she's been raised by her grandparents. This comes out to her using the personal pronoun "ora" instead of "watashi" and the sentence ending "zura". The former tic was more common in the early LLS days (Maru would always introduce herself with "ora", and the first episode of the anime had her using it once), but it's kinda been phased out over time in favor of "zura".

I guess the other comparison you could make is to Rin, who has the verbal tic "nya", since at least anime-Hanamaru is supposed to be inspired by her.

Artist’s comment: After Kanan bottled up her feelings very tightly, there was probably some point when everything just burst out at once. The poor thing.

Aaaaah I forgot to add a TL note...well, it's not like there's any room on the comic for one anyway...

Note: The “Christine” mentioned in Dia’s rant is a main character from "The Phantom of the Opera". Her angelic and naïve demeanor contrasts sharply with the Phantom’s angry and bitter persona. What Dia is probably referring to, however, is Mari’s odd decision to wear something from both characters - a mask (for the Phantom) and a Victorian era dress (for Christine).

Most people see Hanayo's spirit animal as a deer because of the SIF animal set (Hanayo had a deer hoodie or something like that) and because of her seiyuu's nickname ("Shikaco" came from the fact that Kubo Yurika is from Nara, which is famous for its deer population). That SIF set also helped contribute to the popularity of Eli = fox, Nozomi = raccoon, and Maki = leopard/panther IIRC. If anything, an alpaca Patronus might work better for Kotori considering how obsessed she is with them in the SIF stories + anime, but then we wouldn't have the "little bird"/Kotori pun, haha.

BTW, if anyone wants context for the "punishment" line: Pito imagined You as a huge player who hits on girls all the time and toys with their hearts (with Chika being totally unaware of this).
