Many translators, including myself, like to translate the tone of something, even if it technically isn't 100% accurate. For example, "んだとこらっ?" means "what did you say?" in a rude, brusque mannrr. Though it doesn't technically contain any curse words, I'd translate it as "what the hell/fuck did you say?!", to most closely match the tone of the original, even though the words themselves didn't say that.

Mochi Au Lait is currently doing a Twitter AMA, for anyone interested (in Japanese, of course). Among the answers are some thing that probably aren't common knowledge, at least for us western fans:

- Mochi and Au Lait is a two person team.
- Mochi is female, Au Lait is male, however the tweet added that "[they're] both pretty much guys tbh", and that "Mochi is happy when people mistake her for a man".
- They are a non-married couple living together.
- They chose the yuri genre because they wanted to do "gay love", and though they wanted to do BL, they supposedly suck ass at drawing men.

There's also the factor of how you approach translating. Do you prioritise being as true to the original as possible? Making sure it sounds like proper English? Or how natural it sounds?

For the sake of an example, let's use the interjection 最低 - saitei. The literal and thus most accurate translation would be "the lowest, however that sounds awkward in English. A good approximate would be "despicable", however that doesn't sound like something a teenager would say to someone, so how about "you suck" instead?
All of these are accurate to a degree, but are different approaches to translating the same thing, and it will vary depending on person (or publisher) which you prefer. Of course, a compromise is generally the best solution, but because English and Japanese are so incredibly different, it isn't always possible to do smoothly (particularly in the case of SFX, which are a headache all on their own). Personally, if I have trouble making a compromise, I usually go for a fairly literal translation, and then work it out with my QC, since it helps a lot to get the perspective of someone who hasn't read the original Japanese.

I'm very happy that people appreciate my and Kouyuri's work, but please remember that the main reason we — and most other scanlation groups — do this, is because the things we work on isn't available in English yet. While I'm very flattered that some people think our work is higher quality than official releases, I never saw it as my goal to provide free, high quality translations, but rather just to give people the opportunity to read something they otherwise wouldn't be able to (though admittedly, this particular series is somewhat of an exception, as we began working on it after it got licenced).

As for my thoughts on the over-localisation sometimes present in official translations, I think it may be a result of the publishers intended demographic. Scanlations are generally aimed at people with a deep interest in manga — weebs, if you'd like — whereas official publications are generally aimed at a broader audience, who aren't necessarily familiar with untranslated bits of jargon, or honorifics like -san, -sama, -chan, etc. While I certainly prefer translations that stay truer to the original source (whether the original source is in Japanese or any other language), the over-localisation is understandable from a commercial point of view. As for whether it hurts or improves the reader's experience, well, that's another matter. :p

First time I heard of Sal Jiang. Is she well-known in the fandom?

I've never heard of her outside of the discussion pages on her works, no, but, like, she's got a handful of stories on here. And while I don't really care much for Twisted Girl x Twisted Girl, Office Romance Yuri and OL x Big Girl are both fantastic, though they're just as short as this.

I don't remember how I found her originally, but since her works are short, it was an easy choice to pick them up. x)

... This should be titled "Drunk Yuri" (since both of the ladies are drunk). The "I drew some yuri" is obviously just the artist's commentary on the comic, not its title.

Some artists actually would just title the story that. It's a kinda cheeky thing to do, but there are some really cheeky artists out there. Sal Jiang honestly comes off to me as an artist cheeky enough to do that.

Sal generally doesn't title her stuff. I just submit the upload as whatever the tweet says.

They're not the same characters, but it's cute indeed. x)

Our manpower has taken a beating in the last year or so, so I'm currently focusing on 2DK, out of personal preference. Will get back to this when I'm able.

Manga depicting age gap/underage relationships get quite a bit of flak here on DS as well. A somewhat recent example being Yuzumori-san, where the forum thread was largely people loudly shouting at each other concerning the subject for the first good few pages.

Whether it's age gap or other things depicting real life taboos, a large amount of people always try to look at things as black or white, with nothing in-between, justifying or damning characters and how they behave in a polarising way, rather than in greyscale (e.g. see Mousou Envy's forum thread).

When it comes to fiction, such discussions are quite unnecessary at best (after all, there are no real victims or consequences), however even real life has its share of grey zones, with things that many people would be hard-pressed to condone. For example, I know someone who has fond memories of consensually fooling around sexually with her sister, while on the other hand I also know someone who's a victim of systematic, incenstual rape, and suffers from PTSD as a result.

Knee-jerk reactions end to focus on examples like the latter, and completely dismiss the very existence of examples like the former when it comes to sensitive and/or taboo topics.

It's pleasantly surprising to see something so progressive from a Japanese author.
