Back in the early 2000s, the public perception was still such that if someone heard "professional chef" they'd think of a guy by default. a girl had transfered to a new school and was unhappy about it. she met a tomboyish runt that she dislike at first (i think she called her a monkey or something like that). She later tries to go to city where she used to live to pay a surprise visit to her boyfriend only to see him on a date with another girl.
in the later chapters set a year or two later, the tomboy is now a cool tomboy who is popular with the first year girls.
I remember reading it circa 2017, so it's at least older than that.

I think the same author also had a one-shot were a girl was asigned as the manager of a capricious model or actress.
