yuri's character mostly evolve around student especially high school.
if adult,most yuris character profession are teachers, OL,idols,sometimes doctor,mangaka,nurse,model,hostess,waiter,shop owner,sport related...i dunt think character profession is a factor to made a great yuris but sometimes i hope i can read yuri's with the character as a cook...like a couple of very talented cook with smart beautiful doctor.....or maybe a pairing of engineer(rare profession for female japanese) with very famous singer/actresses....the combi with unrelated background must be interesting to read

i know this topic is dumb but i can help to rant here since i dunt have any talent to draw or create my own yuris.also, the common theme of yuris between students or a school background is kinda boring and the plot kinda repeated..

You CAN write school-backgrounded yuri with rather different plots - I've already written two.

School is most common manga setting.
School is extremely most common romance manga setting.
It's not just yuri. I think it's more about general manga demographic.

I actually got curious and tried to find some numbers, and this is what I got. It's...kinda interesting. While the "top hits" are extremely more popular with younger readers, overall is much closer than I expected. Not sure if it's right way to obtain those numbers though.

and if you cannot, that is OK. however, just because the stories you have read have boring backgrounds, why not outline the story or stories you want to read or want to be read?

btw, thank you for creating this thread as it actually is connected to a discussion we have been having in the Stretch thread.

my point is this, start writing down what you think will make for a good story whether it contains LGBT characters or not. once you are satisfied, reach out to someone who can draw and put your talents together. then if you come up with a story about a physicist that solves the wormhole problem and opens one up to a parallel dimension where she meets and falls in love with her other dimension counterpart, great! JMHO.

And thank god for Tandem Lover, these pages with them working on a robot's circuit has been burned into my mind forever
