I loved Bianca and Cheren from BW/B2W2. The sequels really let you see where they went after the first games. As for the rivals of Sword and Shield... in all honesty I like all of them, even Hop. Bede and Hop has amazing character growth and you could really see the struggles that Hop went through to gain his confidence back. At some point he stops battling with his wooloo and other party members to trade them out because he is just doing random strategies so he came become the champion. They when he brings back back his team it is now his original Pokémon that he started with as well as a few from back when he was experimenting! Then after he is defeated in the finals of the tournament, he doesn’t know how to feel anymore. It’s only after going through the trials of the post story that he realizes that being a Pokémon trainer isn’t for him and chooses a different path. What’s great is that his choice doesn’t seem forced at all due to us seeing is growth and how it affected is perception of the world and that new perception is shown in the post game. As for Bede, his character growth is honestly a lot more obvious that Hop’s. He goes from believing that everyone is beneath him due to Rose recognizing him to being abandoned by the chairman. It’s only then, and a little bit of fairy type training, that he learns that he isn’t above everyone else. In all honesty, Marnie doesn’t have much character growth in the game, and that’s not a bad thing! If you read he league card you learn how she was before and how she grew past her shy nature. She didn’t need any character development because her character was already developed. What makes Marnie a good character is that she opens up to you slowly to the point that she and her brother are completely on board with helping you get to Leon. Her personality is supportive and caring and that makes you want to return the same support and care to her. So in all honesty all the rivals in Sword and Shield were amazing to me and how the writers wrote them was very refreshing and made me feel like they all went through there own hardships on their journey that I never saw, nor did I need to because I could see the struggles they went through and that those struggles aren’t over yet. I hope they release a sequel instead of a rerelease!!!
