Dammit, didn't end on the couple I wanted...
No matter how you look at it, Kozue is just such a more interesting character than Yayoi. It's hard to support Yayoi once she enters the picture.
Giving another character better chemistry with the protagonist than the actual romantic interest is one of the hardest mistakes for the reader to have to endure.
