Akyu is one the the few lucky humans who know the purpose of their destiny since birth. Its quite a convenience to know the purpose of life so early. While many of her humans peers are still contemplating their own worth and purpose. Some even dying unfulfilled because they never figured out what to do with their life.

Since everyone must die, I imagine knowing what you will die for makes the process relatively easy. A fulfilled life is better than a long life right?

Akyu isn't some tragic prisoner to her fate. She's born with a blessing, a purpose that allows her to surpass her inevitable death.

Ahh, why is Marisa so awesome. Broing it up with Reimu, being moved by things, thinking about things; being so utterly human. This doujin really makes me feel like a fangirl (boy. whatever. :P Have to admit that Marisa is one Touhou I will probably never sexualize).

I agree that the children of Miare are blessed with a purpose, that her life is not something to be pitied. That doesn't make Marisa's action at the end any less remarkable though. Bringing Akyuu out to look at non-Gensokyou things for her own interest, to even temporarily take in/wonder at the world beyond her allotted duty/purpose. An insignificant/meaningless act of compassion, that essentially does nothing but to make Akyuu's day a bit brighter. Not to overstate this story, but that last page does leave me breathless.
