I find it odd that Yuri is a name and also a term for lesbians... Don't things get confusing sometimes? Or is it not used so much? Or is it not used how I think it is?
From what I gather, the word "yuri" can have a number of meanings depending on how its written and the lesbian sense is only one or two of those. In fact, isn't the "lesbian manga" meaning basically just the lily flower, which was a spin-off of associating gay male manga with roses?
In this case, of course, the author's making a deliberate pun so that's an angle too. There are similar flower-lesbian puns here
