oh yeah I looked it up it seems to be close to Turkey... omg don't tell me it's a romance between the 12 year old boy and the 20 year old girl... that's just... ugh... omg apparently there are sex scenes, I looked it up because this is kind of crucial... I don't know what to think of it... I'm around the girl's age so... yeah... I feel a bit disturbed thinking about it... having sex with a 12 year old boy... yuck... >.>
It is. If you go into it with that attitude you're really counting out a beautiful story. The author doesn't sacrifice historical accuracy to appease contemporary values. And there are no sex scenes. There's some stuff that is implied, but it's for the older couples. The 12-year old groom doesn't seem to have sexually matured yet. They do kiss though, and there's some nudity (mostly in the baths).
no, I'm actually thinking about reading it but yeah, I just looked that up to be prepared for it >.> I don't think it's for the historical accuracy, I mean it's not like no one of the same age got married around that time... But I guess it does have an impact and it makes you think a bit differently but yeah! It does make me kind of uncomfortable! But oh, well, I'll get used to it maybe I'll think it's cute... I thought Itou Hachi stuff was cute soooooo, well I don't know! ^-^'
I do feel better now btw, I'm gonna have some ice cream and hug my pillow before I start working ok! I can do this! (hopefully... probably...) Yes, I'm really moody >.>
I'm not saying intentionally making there be an age gap is a point of historical accuracy. Actually part of the tension in the beginning is Amir being old for a bride. I'm saying overall there are things that are frowned upon today that she doesn't sugarcoat.
hmm... interesting, I wonder what would drive someone to make a story like this
All of her stuff (other than doujins that she writes under a pen name) are set in a historical context. She also enjoys 19th century England (she has a maid story called Emma, 10 volumes, it's an anime as well), and there's a researcher (Mr. Smith) that you'll follow in Otyomegatari who's also from England, learning about the different people in Central Asia. She does an enormous amount of research for her works.
Mori Kaoru fan girl if you couldn't already tell.
