That reminds me of a good friend who's so like Seol-a -- really popular, doesn't pick up on any pop culture reference, loves the beach, has rather generic interests, but was really good at marketing/business administration cases back in uni. A lot of fake people liked to hitch on her popularity. I hated it -_- But she always confided in me and thought my quirkiness was interesting/cute. She's also really touchy-touchy like Seol-a! Ugh. Anyway, we've had a lot of short exchanges similar to your Space Invaders script above if we weren't talking about fashion or health/fitness (about the only thing we truly had in common). Goddamn, I guess I was in love with her for a time and I think that's why FF feels so real to me. </3 Hahaha. K, oversharing oops.

Got a general discussion question: At which point did you become hooked on this story?

For me it was probably the lollipop moment. I was like, "Yup. The gayness is real." And then I just had to read more in hopes of seeing those feelings (from both Seol-Ah and No-Rae) come fully to the surface. Btw, does anyone know NoRae's first gay moment?

You know, the best part about looking for FF fan art is that you also discover tons of incredible artists, for stuff that is not even related to FF or yuri.

Although No-rae only consciously realized her feelings in Chapter 27, I would say that the first time there was a hint that No-rae was interested in Seol-a in a way that was more than just friends would be Chapter 8, when Hye-gyeong told No-rae the (incorrect) rumor that Seol-a and Ji-hwan used to date, after which No-rae got a bit unhappy and "disappointed"... but she didn't know why.

I can't remember exactly, as it has been over half a year since I started reading. (My, where does the time go?)

But I think what got me really into the story was the first "fight" or "argument" arc, which occurred from Chapters 11 to 13, culminating with the subway scene in Chapter 14.

From 11 to 13, we got a first look at Seol-a's backstory, why she is the way she is and what makes her "tick" so to speak, her fear or paranoia of people pretending to be her friend to use her. We also got a look at her "uglier" side: how she tried to "use" Ji-hwan to make No-rae jealous or to test her.

...Yeah, this probably sounds like an odd point to become hooked into this series. Most people would probably name some happy Seol-Rae fluff moment.

But these chapters showed me that the depth of these characters. It showed that they were overall good people but with flaws and vulnerabilities. (You know, just like real people?) It made me care for them.

Also, as I said... this lead to or culminated with the subway scene in Chapter 14... That is probably one of my favorite scenes so far in the series. It was funny and goofy, but at the same time, it showed an important part of No-rae: her strong protective side. We learn that despite her soft gentle appearance and sometimes even childlike behavior, she can actually be a very tough and strong person when she needs to stand up for others. Furthermore, the end of the scene also further cemented their growing subconscious attraction to one another.

HAHAHA. While I'm definitely more on the No-rae side of the personality spectrum, I wasn't a wallflower who ran away from my problems lol. Gahd, I hated it so much when No-rae said harsh words she didn't mean just to push Seol-a away >:( And when she'd imagine Seol-a was more suited for Ji-hwan or some self-assured man with a warm embrace, I was like "WTF No-rae! If I were you, I'd step up and make myself worthy of her!" Haha! It's a good thing Seol-a is quite the aggressive pursuer, following her all the way to her hometown. My college friend wasn't emotional like that lol. We still keep in touch but my feelings have long subsided to a platonic one, thank goodness. Because I don't think she'd ever go out of her way for me as I would have for her (one time, I went out into a stormy night on rickety third-world public transportation just to give her my accounting textbook/notes that she needed, and then I felt like an idiot afterwards lol) ...even though to this day, she still has my old college doodles of her in her room :))

All the good tension that pushes character development rather than create fanservice-y plot intrigues, I guess? And it helps a lot that ssamba also executes with such visual clarity. It's those little things like the look on Seol-a's face when No-rae calls or when No-rae showed up when she was drinking with Kyung-woo. You never see that look on Seol-a's face anywhere else and that tells us something. I really felt her joy there in that panel, haha. And can we talk about how simple yet powerful Seol-a's design is? A lot of times we're just shown her back, but we know it's her. And and I dunno if it's just me but I find that Seol-a's silhouette/back creates such a strong presence on a panel. Really reinforces that THAT'S the queen bee without having to resort to flashy, dynamic camera angles. And there's so much believability in the characters. Again, little details that add dimension to a character-- how No-rae sleeps with the blanket all the way to her head, doesn't know where stuff is kept in her own house, easily falling asleep anywhere, having this silly pear character on her fridge, etc.

A lot of other manga can have really beautiful-looking art that looks like a lot of time was spent on it, but character behavior/progression can get over-the-top and unbelievable (e.g. Citrus, though I love reading it as a guilty pleasure hahaha). FF has super simple art but I really like it in terms of art-direction and visual communication. It feels more real and earnest that I think it could appeal to readers who aren't even normally readers of yuri.

So yeah, I'm hooked because I think it's a really well-crafted comic series :)
