I am subscribed to the transgender tag. I am not subscribed to the crossdressing tag. Regardless, I constantly get emails claiming that chapters with "tags [I] subscribe to" have been posted, that are tagged crossdressing. They are not tagged transgender, only crossdressing.
Frankly, I find this insulting on a personal level; I am transgender, not a crossdresser. These are not the same thing, nor are they especially similar things in real life or in a story. Conflating the two is a very widely-known kind of transphobia, and to do so in the site's tagging system at best shows ignorance of that fact, and at worst feels malicious. I should be able to follow manga about people like me without also being pushed entirely unrelated manga about a group people like me are often maliciously conflated with.
This may have been done in good faith, for example, by someone who recognizes that manga labeled "crossdressing" often have suspiciously trans-seeming characters, but that doesn't fix any of the problems with the conflation, and I would still say, in that case, that the tags should be properly separated. If a manga seems to have a transgender character, it should be tagged transgender. The tags being conflated only causes confusion in that regard and hurts people's feelings.
