I can't decide what I like better, stories where Ran was Yukari's shiki from a young age like here, or ones where she had a history of her own, and came to Yukari later for any of a number of reasons. It's hard to decide.

And to be honest, Ran x Shou isn't something that would have occurred to me. Is there even a pairing for Ran besides Yukari or Chen on the reader in the first place?

for sure, i prefer stories where yukari looks for a mighty yukai called ran and persuade her to became her shiki (i have in mind tohonifun's YukariXRan, and a lot of other djs too), these are more yuri, while the stories with a young ran are more cute and sweet.
yukari's shikigami has to be a yukai with an important history
