This character could become trans but he could also be stuck with being a Femboy now - not "able" to do yuri, but at least he can see and appreciate it. He calls himself yuri danshi (and man and boy too) - a yuri boy that felt lonely because men don't really belong in a yuri. If he were trans, wouldn't he be a girl anyway? Where would be the conflict of the story? It's a bit ironic if people couldn't accept a male yuri fan in a manga about lonely male yuri fans.

Why do we need to satisfy male readers in a goddamn lesbian story is always my fucking question tho

It kinda sucks because this could potentially undo all the arc we had previously. I don't really see how this would further their relationship, this feels like reverting back to point zero. Like, this effectively makes the previous chapters feel pointless.

Sometimes you gotta go back before you can go forward, or something.

Maybe, I can only judge after reading the next chapter

Yeah I get ya, I just figured the criticism you laid out would lead to the same conclusion as mine. I agree sometimes it's reductive to prematurely label things a certain way but I thought enough discourse was already done on this thread for me to cut the chase and just state it outright. I appreciate you articulating the reasoning in detail tho!

For me, the vibes were off from the start. The fact that there was a named male character on the intro page was already so goofy that I had to laugh. Then the girls couldn't shut up about this guy, and the sex was also pretty flavorless. The fact that the very same named male character saw and interrupted them just takes this from boring to "ick", it didn't ruin anything actually good.

Yeah - there were a lot of red flags, more than just the guy in the introduction page. In hindsight everything feels gross but I guess I expected at least some decent chemistry between them that stemmed from jealousy. Yeah no I change my mind, the vibes were pretty bad from the start.

I don't believe "male gaze" and "fetishizing" are helpful analysis because people say that about any and all yuri without any rhyme or reason. No, if there is a problem here, it's that this oneshot fails to treat even the audience with the bare minimum of respect: the lesbian sex it depicts ends not on an orgasm but the reaction shot of a guy.

This is anticlimax in the most literal sense: the sex scene ends on the very moment of the boy interrupting them, and the oneshot ends on the next page, with the girls laughing the whole thing off like a pair of vapid NPCs. It's not uncommon in yuri porn that somebody accidentally sees the couple when they do it somewhere they're not supposed to, but being seen by somebody does not tend to end the fun.

Yeah, I agree with you about the climax. But I feel like that further proves my point this IS fetishization/male-gaze. Unfair labels do get tossed around sometimes by bad-faith actors but it is important to call it out when it actually is exactly that. Cuz like, lesbian fetishization is a real problem that does exist, and this kind of shit falls into that category for many of the reasons people listed on this thread.

The fact that the guy was IN the character introductions was a big red flag in hindsight I guess...

Male characters in Yuri can sometimes be good friends and/or provide interesting narrative elements, but I dislike the inclusion of the guy here. Him discovering them at the end, a lot of the dialogue being about jealousy because one of the girls keeps looking at him, he feels weirdly central to the story for no good reason. Plus they knew he was outside, and it was so weirdly obvious to me that he'd discover them.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm fine with stories that are bisexual (cuz I am) but this one sure isn't - it definitely swings more to the male-gazy fetisihization side. I kinda hated it.

I'm okay with there being an "observer" in a story that readers can relate to, but I prefer when they're fellow himejoshis or at least aroace - and not straight men who frankly do not belong there. If you're a straight man who enjoys yuri that's fine, but like, I don't think they need a self-insert in stories that are not about them.

I binged this today (up to chapter 29 which hasn't been translated yet) and I will do anything for Diana. SHE IS SO. FUCKING. PRECIOUS. Her love for Natori has been the true highlight of the manga for me. Her unconditional dedication is something to BEHOLD. I have never wished for a poly ending more in my LIFE.

Diana only cares about Natori's happiness but GIRL WHAT ABOUT YOURS. YOU DESERVE IT TOO GODDAMMIT

Finally read this through and HOLY SHIT is this one GOOD.
Yu finding out Qi was a girl was pretty sudden, but what followed I appreciated a lot. I liked the process in which Yu came to accept her love for what it is, it was paced appropriately. I also really, REALLY enjoyed Qi’s inner struggle to make up with Yu. She fell SO HARD for Yu, and I’m always, ALWAYS a huge fan of the initially hesitant falling even harder for their partner. And the scene where Qi finally wears femme clothes and gets even more openly intimate with Yu… IT MADE ME HOLLER. AND YU APPLYING MAKEUP FOR QI. THAT IS SO TRANS-CODED I LOVED IT. AND THE KISS WITH THE LIPSTICK!!! THAT WAS SO GOOD HOLY SHITFUCK

ALSO TANTAI LAN IS A FUCKING HOTTIE. She is literally the best character in the series bar none. I love her playful nature and the ABSOLUTE FUCKING RIZZ EMINATING SOLEY FROM HER PRESENCE. And MING WEI UGH GIRL YOU’RE SO PRECIOUS I can’t… Her arc is so good and she’s so gay for A-Lan and she doesn’t even fucking question it. About the out-of-character Bocchi tho, this author always drew Bocchi as more of a rizzler so it's nothing new from them but it is a tad bit jarring when it isn't just a single image but a long-form doujin. 6 years is a lot of time for someone to change and it's not THAT inconceivable that she would turn out this way but her character's essence is barely present and it doesn't feel like her most of the time. You could say it's a "what if" premise but when it gives this big of a drastic change to the character, idk... I go back and forth on this.

This has been my comfort yuri for the last couple of days - it's so fluffy and cute!!! Literally NOTHING goes wrong and - even though I enjoy my fair share of toxic/doomed yuri, it felt so nice to have a series I can just fall back on and not be anxious about any drama at all while reading. I feel like this could've continued forever, way past their real marriage, but oh well. It was a really good read while it lasted
