Using the word "homo" is considered offensive? English isn't my first language and I just see everybody using "gay" moust of the time, so if someone can confirm to me if what Mei said is true or if is just a localization thing I would be thankful.

I'll give you the breakdown from my perspective: Where I live, (center of the American midwest) "Homo" is pretty exclusively used as a derogatory slur. "Gay" is pretty much correct/neutral, but it's all in the tone of voice and the context. "Homosexual" is clinical and is rarely ill-intended. Most bigots don't resonate well with multisyllabic words. "Queer" largely depends on who is saying it and in what context. It used to be a slur, but it's been more or less reclaimed by the LGBT community. I sometimes joke that "Hey, that's our word.", but really as long as it isn't being used in an offensive context, I don't think it's particularly bad. It should be pretty obvious from context that the various "F"-words are always NOT COOL.

More context. In the raw what was used is ホモ which is literally "homo" exact transliteration. In Japan ホモ is pretty exclusively negative, more so than even the english word "Homo".

I'm not into trap thing since I prefer Yuri but this kinda cute ahaha , but my question is since Mogu gender is M.F does that mean mogu can choose what he/she wants down there if bird or cat(if you know what I mean) ahahaha ,like the guy in UQ holder.

Not sure if someone else answered it, but that's the space where you circle Male or Female on the employment application. Mogu circled neither.

Not only is this series a hilarious depiction of frustrated emotional floundering, it is also the occasion for hilariously frustrated emotional floundering on this discussion board.

"Why am I so hung up on this?" indeed. lol

Great post. Best post I've ever read on this forum. These discussion threads are hilarious.

Honest question, which do you think is worse? Pedophilia being carried out by an adult woman preying on the neighbor child? Or mass animal cruelty, delinquency and ecology destruction caused by a plumber?

Personally, I would say that both is as bad, but thankfully we don't have to worry about the immorality of either with them being fictional.

QFT! People really need to learn to be able to separate fiction from reality.

Pedophiles need to be gassed and their worthless corpse mulched into compost. There is no excuse or valid reasoning to go after a child. There needs to be death camps for these people.

Go away and never come back please. Your type doesn't belong on these forums.

....pedo....

Just call it as it is. Lady is grooming and sexually using a young kid for pleasure. That's a child molester and a criminal.

So negative. People need to bring "suspension of disbelief" to fiction more often.

The Scottish dialect was a good and creative choice, certainly better than how dialects are usually treated! Since people are having trouble, maybe add a short dictionary for the phrases people have the most problems with.

Translation notes would be helpful for whenever the heavy-scottish non-english words are used.

Honestly, these things are the reason it's hard to motivate spending 30 something hours working for free on something like this, lol.

I guess think of the positive side. People care enough about the story to want to continue reading so are giving critique because they want to enjoy it and want you to continue. Translators are always appreciated.

Couldn't you just invent a new accent? For example, take Scottish, and then remove some of the weirdness from it, (keep "Ye", remove "laddie/lassie/dinnae/etc"). It'd maintain the fact that she's speaking something different (all that non-Japanese readers really care about) while making it easy to understand. Using Scottish directly drags along all the connotations of being Scottish, not being Hakata, which does a disservice to the translation.

It appears I underestimated the impact of changing a single verb... D:

Incidentally, my translation is less different from American English than her Japanese is from Standard Japanese. :/

I mean I was able to muddle through by just guessing what the word meaning was, but it definitely breaks up the reading flow. (Like I'd stop and say it out loud and try to guess what the original English word was and then translate it.)

I saw the TL note, but it doesn't help if I can't read it....

Btw dinnae is "don't" and didnae is "didn't".

Thanks... As an American I've only heard Scottish accent once or twice and I've NEVER seen it written. I think there's going to get a lot more complaints when the US starts waking up... (6AM east coast 3 AM west coast at the moment)

Is there any possibility on lightening up on the weird english? Perhaps its easier to read for UK English people but this was really hard to read from an American English speaker. How do you even pronounce "didnae"/"dinnae" and what's it mean?

This is one of those things I think would happen if Japanese-style bullying happened at US schools. It's why it doesn't happen here.

Well the plot of this just isn't good, regardless of all the other things people say about it. You don't need to insert personal baggage into this plot to see that it's not well done.

So many people in this forum get way too riled up way too easily. If you don't like it then don't read it.

(Oh and the idea that people at 17.999 years old can't consent and then suddenly once you're 18 you can consent and do literally anything is utter stupidity. "Able to consent" is a spectrum that's different for every person. Some people shouldn't be consenting even at 20 years old.)

By the way, I actually can't understand how some guys can even try to make it without touching the girl before.

Why do you think a guy would know that you need to do that? From their point of view they think its always moist, it's inside someone's body after all. Also remember that in Japan non-censored pornography is illegal so you can't even see the vagina in most porn...

Translated title: "The Caged Girl Falls in Love"

I just stumbled upon a few chapter raws in Dengeki Daioh. It looks really good, but incredibly dark involving suicide and dispassionate love. It started in 2017 and it looks like there's 8 chapters now. Does anyone know if any group is working on translating it?

Please don't add shitty "Norway" jokes. They're not funny and they're not in the manga. Translate, don't rewrite.

Plus it's easier than saying homosexual and I think it sounds better, I don't feel "triggered" by the word gay so yeah... That's just like... your opinion.
If they were saying fag then it becomes a real issue.

It comes from fact that people used (or I guess some still do) word gay in context of it being like a insult. So when they said "it's so gay" they actually meant it like "it's so lame" etc. Unlike us who use it with it's intended meaning, they basically conflated gay with meaning something bad and/or weird, hence the bad connotation.

I don't think they're saying the word is offensive. Just cringe.
If so, I can understand it, actually. I too find some reactions being pretty cringe sometimes with people being all happy using certain words all the time (where I live mainly). But then I realize I'm the one being grumpy, so I just don't say anything.

What's wrong with the word lesbian? I also see the shortened version "lez".

I'm loving this so far, but...

Why are they sucking the aquarium water? Isn't a pail better suited than that?

Probably to bring up the water, when the hose is full they will release the suspended liquid onto the pail. The aquarium is placed in a higher ground so it will be impossible to get rid of the water unless they are allowed to use a dipper or actually tilt the aquarium.

Ooh that makes sense! Still gross though.

Actually the previous poster is wrong. You don't need to keep sucking, you only need to do it once. If you fill the tube partially and then put it into a bucket below it will keep flowing until the water tank is entirely empty because of the siphon effect. (For that matter the manga has it wrong too. https://youtu.be/H6E92hhiWf8?t=1m30s is how this actually works)

I don't get everyone's issues with possessiveness. If you're in a relationship its right to be possessive at a healthy level. Just don't take it to an extreme (preventing them from going out with other people) and it's fine.

That was good until they started the sex. The boobs don't match the size they are when wearing normal clothes. Stop inflating boob size!

To be honest, I kinda want to see SHAFT animate it... They're often pretty unique with animation as a medium, and I think their willingness to focus on slow-paced dialogue without feeling the need to make it bombastic and ridiculous would serve this series well.

SHAFT would ruin this show. Absolutely not. The show would come out too dark or they would exaggerate scenes that shouldn't be exaggerated. After seeing what WIT Studio did with "Koi wa Ameagari no You ni", I would love to see their take on this manga.
