When you need to watch video essay to understand whatever characters are gay or not, that is not a good sign.

It would only make arguments about OTPs even more unbearable than they already are. As soon as people consider 1 ship OTP, that is when discussion stops, because there is nothing to discuss, it is the best ship and anything else is heresy, blasphemy, wrong. OTPs are what killed any discussion about ships. Just look at LL or Madoka and tell me you can have any discussions about ships there. Just let everyone ship whatever they want. Do you really need to prove what you like is "the best" that much?

Nice. So pretty much like I said. Entire point of it was just to make Fujishiro reflect on everything, but Kurokawa becoming stronger and more honest was also nice as well. With this I guess the path to yuri is finally open. Also I like the implication that third friend will probably ditch other 2 and start talking to Fujishiro again.

Well there is one. Chigo. And mangaka just used it with same implication, they just gender swapped it. But we can't do the same in english, because there is no equivalent to word chigo in the first place, male or female. So the whole "no historically accurate" argument is irrelevant here.

Yea, I don't get it either, It is as if they didn't want people to see their art. I guess for some reason they treat it as theft, regardless of circumstances. I could understand them wanting people to go to their sites directly, but if you don't have ads or something, increasing traffic won't give you anything and if people want to go see more of your stuff, they will.

Well I guess there is also japanese tendency to not wanting foreigners to see/share their stuff. Them blocking foreigners for sharing/following them etc. is sadly pretty common.

The original is ゆりごっこ which reads "Yuri-gokko" and I must say I'm really not sure how to best translate it. I mean, yuri is yuri, of course, but I don't know what gokko conveys in this context.
It was rendered by the scanlators as "acting gay" and perhaps we should just accept it and let it be.

"gokko" is the child's game of playing pretend, make believe. So thing you play at + gokko. So literally "playing yuri". Previous group translated it as "play pretend" which didn't really convey the meaning well. You could translate yuri as something like "being lesbians" so "pretending to be lesbians". You could roll with it or something similar, but it's one of those phrases where less literal translations work best and personally "acting gay" fits very well into context of the story. It sounds more natural or like something you would actually say during conversation. I prefer word lesbian, but gay become such universal word and is much more flexible in use, so I think in this case it works better.

Being cliche doesn't make something bad by itself. It's all about execution. You can write the most cliche, by the numbers story ever, but still execute them well enough to make it a masterpiece. Sure, twisting a cliche in interesting way is always good, but at some point twisting a cliche also becomes a cliche in itself.
