i feel kinda weird about the short haired girl being suddenly in love with the MC after being all over Saki during the festival. It feels like she's there just to suffer in silence after helping the MC get the girl.

I felt the same way. I felt sorry for her, like she was just written to be a hopeless third wheel to cause triangle drama.

She's cute, and I was hoping she got her own girlfriend but unfortunately the manga was both short and just not written that way.

I can't believe it, even those two already did it and YuzuMei are still on square one.

DESTRUCTION 100

But hey, cut them some slack, they're not on square one.

They're on square one+.

That mom looked like a ghost there. She even has that dead-mother side braid. Of course, this isn't the kind of series that kills their characters, except in a pretend sense.

Super minor nitpick but you gotta make sure your font and spacing choices don't make the text hard to read. On page 2 "UMIELI" looks like "UMIEU" because the L and I blended together.

I love this, but some of the characters look identical to each other and i find it really confusing!

That's kind of the double-edged sword of restricting yourself to real, natural Japanese hair/eye colors, and having 99% of the girls wearing samey school uniforms "seifuku". There are practical, artistic reasons to the whole cliche "you gotta have blue/anime hair".

On the topic of looking identical to each other, I'm wondering if Hachiko really came up with 200 unique Japanese girls' names or they reused some... or if they mixed and matched creating triangle drama! 100 scenes is enough to make basically a universe of yuri!

Be on the lookout for Nakatani's soon to be smash hit, 'Mio Nanami's Adventures In Another Land!'

Coming t-today wednesday

Funny, I didn't make the connection that Mio got truck-kun'd and truck-kun is a popular meme plot device to land the (usually a loser) MC into an isekai.

Really nice manga :) I need to read it all the way through tho- its been ages since I read the early chapters

I never got round to watching the anime for this- is it worth watching? I mean how many chapters does it cover? it can't get much resolved or end in a very satisfying place in so few episodes I'd think?

It ends during their date in the aquarium if I remember correctly.... and it's 1000% recommended watch even if you've read the manga twice or more, it really adds more to the romance sometimes. But as for the subtitles to enjoy it without issues...idk

Had a problem with the subtitles? A blessed anon has made honorifics patches for it.

Meanwhile I'm trying to collect Symphogear subs that aren't Commie/Horrible and it's surprisingly and disappointingly hard.

^ Except Yuu's demi-romanticism is, at best, debatable.

Why? I think it made a lot of sense. She found her pretty and started falling for her as she got to know her better. I found Yuu's feelings quite relatable.

I find terms demiromantic and demisexual pointless, because what people use to call it, I simply call "falling in love". To me falling for someone only after spending long time with them and getting to know them is how falling in love should work. Everyone is different and everyone needs different amount of time to feel comfortable with other person. Giving some arbitrary time limits and labels only alienate people over something that works differently for everyone. I would never call myself demisexual/romantic. I'm more than capable of finding someone attractive and fall for them in very short amount of time if we hit it off yet I also experienced falling for someone only after spending over 2 years with them and initially not finding them attractive at all. If I wanted to label myself 1 way or another I'd just be limiting myself.

Totally agree. This also give me traumatic flashbacks to all the idiots who jumped to conclusions and just assumed Yuu was asexual.

So is “Did something good happen?” a specific Japanese cultural idiom? I’ve seen it a number of times in other manga/anime, along with “Something good must have happened” and other slight variations.

In US English I guess it would be a more general phrase like, “You seem cheerful,” or something like that.

I'm not sure if it's unique to Japan but they use it a lot. It's basically a catch-phrase for certain characters, like Meme from the Monogatari series.

what is this weird creepy trope in anime of kissing someone while they're sleeping?

Actually... does anyone ever succeeds?

I'm trying my best to remember, but all that comes to mind are scenes where the "sleeping" one either wakes up right at that moment (before lips touch, so no kiss) or never was asleep in the first place and catches the perpetrator in the act.

This trope has happened at least once in western media (Snow White), but I can't remember this trope ever be used in anime or manga without some kind of moment killer to interrupt it.

I love this development and hate this cliffhanger.

Slightly annoyed Tatsubon randomly threw in an almost-kiss there. Did Nikaidou really look asleep there??

Where's the NSFW tag?

The ray of light is censoring it, albeit pointlessly.

I finished this a couple of weeks ago and while I agree that the ending is a bit rushed, I'm just glad we finally got a great big "I love you!", big kiss, and a great big "I love you too!" Also, while Hyakuro's translation is shaky, I'm a huge weeb so keeping the honorifics is always a win in my book.

Just letting everyone know that this manga is already finished. U can read it at MangaRock.

I used MangaDex.

Why do people keep making sex-crazed doujins for this beautiful and innocent slice of life schoolgirl series?

(also if they get bored with the apocalypse, Aaya will just have Kii switch eras by spending all her free time trying to invent the cellphone).

It's all by the same guy who made the series in the first place, hence the Official tag.

Actually, just wondering (I dont want spoilers), can someone who has read the manga tell me whether or not the series slips down to the dramatic side of things or stay light hearted like is the order a rabbit, with some hints on a darker past?

Oh, and by the way, thanks to whoever scanlates this!

Even with just the anime and what's already been scanlated, you can see hints of a darker past. Personally I can't answer how dark the manga actually gets, though.

The other possibility, of course, is that Japanese adult life sucks so bad that no one wants to read about it.

You want just enough adult life to be relatable to the Japanese salaryman, but not too much adult life. Hence, half the isekai genre. And at this point even half the isekai genre would be big enough to be the 2nd or 3rd biggest genre in anime right now.

But as a narrative construction, the specific conflict that has made this story this particular story has been resolved, and while we may be greedy for a king-sized denouement (the two of them coming out to their friends and family, etc.), in order to create Bloom Into You, Part 2: Yuri Boogaloo Nakatani would need to generate some new central conflict (assuming we didn't go into a slice-of-life "Yuu and Touko Disagree On What Kind of Sofa to Buy" mode).

I'd read this tbh. You could argue "rabble rabble literary quality rabble rabble" but there's a market for it. Make it a 4koma, I don't care. There are at least two magazines, Manga Time Kirara and Manga Time Kirara Carat, that are almost entirely dedicated to SoL 4koma fluff. I'll add some of those got adapted into decent subtexty anime too, like Yuyushiki, Hidamari Sketch, Hanayamata, K-On, and New Game.

Also Futaribeya.

I believe Nakatani doesn't like to call YagaKimi a Yuri story

She expressed that she didn't think of her doujins as yuri in an earlier interview before YagaKimi, but that's not the case with YagaKimi. She went into YagaKimi wanting to write a yuri romance (Vol 1's afterwords), extensively discussed yuri tropes and how YagaKimi compare to them in interviews, & is honored of seeing it winning the Yuri Navi poll for 3 years straight (she even agreed to do an interview to celebrate last year and left a thank you message this year). In fact, Kusunoki, her editor, went on a rant around the time of the anime refuting the claim that Nakatani doesn't consider YagaKimi a yuri.

Whoops, guess I mis-remembered that one then. I may have mixed up some dumb internet comments with official word.

The NSFW tag spoiled alot ch44.

Yeah, sadly it kinda does. I mean, it was rather obvious that it would happen, but it was refreshing to walk into the scene blind.

warm, loving and cute as fUCK and a lovely conclusion to their character development ;-; this will forever go down as the best yuri manga for me

Idk, why specify that it's the best yuri manga?
I haven't read much manga, so I couldn't really tell, but the anime adaptation is at the very top of my favourite list, regardless of genre. Up until then I had maintained for years that the top was divided among three to four excellent shows, but I ended up enjoying Bloom into You more than any of those because it did what I'd hoped it might do (within the confines of an unfinished source manga and only half the story being told) and did it superbly well. In a sense I was compelled to create a top spot above the pantheon.
I mean, I don't usually follow seasonal anime for more than a few episodes before opting to binge it after it's done airing, but with Bloom into You it was very different. Not only did I diligently keep up with the show, having started after the release of ep. 3 in the English dub, but kept re-watching all episodes each week at least once. I loved it hard.
The only other (airing) show that had been so compelling for me in recent memory was Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (which kinda should count as Yuri as well IMO), and while I found it fantastic as well, it did not impact me quite as much.

I believe Nakatani doesn't like to call YagaKimi a Yuri story, and she made it a point to make it appeal to people who don't like yuri. Something about universal themes or whatever.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but personally I want to see more stories that are yuri first and anything/everything else second. There's so many subtext/gimmick series that throw yuri subtext in on the side when it's really about something else.

Oh my gosh the lewds are cannon now.

When I started reading this I didn't think I'd ever see lewds of these two, much less official ones.

While Rule #34 has been relatively kind to the cast of Bloom into You, it has not entirely spared them.

Having them engage in sex officially is much appreciated.

Sadly most non-h Canon (so not just subtext) yuri series don't get much good yuri porn (and the less said about the hetshit, the better). It's a niche of a niche of a niche. Rule 34 has no exceptions but it doesn't say anything about the volume or quality of the porn. There will always be one but there's no guarantee that there will be a hundred, or that they will be any good. Of course, you can argue with yuri it's the emotional aspect of the relationship that's most important, not the sexual aspect.

I've only read the Kusoshop translation but 4s admitted to making a big mistake on page 3: Yuu calls Touko's name with no honorific right in front of Touko's parents, and Yuu dropping the honorific was supposed to be a big bomb dropped at the end of the chapter after, you know.

I loved Natsuki but even though this is a yuri series and I have my yuri goggles cranked up to the max I still didn't expect that flare-up of yuri subtext when Natsuki thought "I wish I could've gotten you excited about softball instead" or something like that.

Doujima and Akari getting together.

Akari fell in love with the wrong basketball senpai. I know, this is an "enlightened" manga so not everyone can be a lesbian, blah, blah, blah, but that other person asked for a self-indulgent wish, so I'll indulge, damnit!

Ah you mean, the girl Serizawa? I see hehe.

  1. Foreshadowing the end of Sayaka's suffering. Funny that outside canon, in the fanfics, some guys started shipping her with Natsuki. Others, her with Miyako (shameless!). They also built Sayaka x Koyomi ship, which only sails in funny Tumblr posts. Hope rests in the LNs maybe it's fine.

I actually thought of Natsuki. I feel like they might be a decent fit, and since they're both friends with Yuu, there's a possible angle for them to meet and interact.

I haven't even thought about the possibility of Akari x Natsuki but I'd be super-happy to see that happen as well.

So MY favorite part of the new chapter is when Yuu says Touko's name the next morning, no honorific, showing that they have taken a step closer in intimacy.

Yes, that was also a great line; it got a big "FINALLY" out of me.
