^ it isn't, at least not in the traditional sense. you can play as a female trainer and still get all shippy scenes that exist (varies by girl), and there's at least one girl whose route becomes more intimate with a female trainer (entirely separate route, or exclusive writing...)
(and if that's still not your thing, yeah there's a ton of shippy stuff between the girls themselves that you can focus on. sometimes like in tama's case, that even overshadows the trainer stuff in quantity. i just specify the above because, as somebody who came from imas, it's crazy how lesbian friendly it is)
I think it's a good tag so people who are uncomfortable with the ambiguity can filter it out or be mindful of it instead of complaining about being blindsided in the comments. It's kind of obnoxious to be into this kind of thing and then have all the comments be debating the morality of consent on a work that's obviously catering to a specific BDSM fantasy that they just don't understand.
100% agreed. this happens with somno kink really often and it drives me crazy
my take on dubcon is that it also applies to situations where consent can't be given, like if the recipient is drunk, unconscious, etc, as well as the whole ambiguous "does she really want it?" stuff. dubcon and noncon as terms exist to describe sexual fantasies, so there's no reason to weigh them against real life assault. it's more about what "flavor" a given person prefers in their erotica and to distinguish that. me personally, i like both!
man wtf i'm a dwarf in these forums (147cm, not asian (white), i'm just a freak of nature). anyway i love height gap. it's great food
solfege is a classic for sure. I never even tried (bad at rhythm games), but I hear it is very polished. Unfortunately I haven't made a section for untranslated games.
Does everyone want me to add one? There are quite a few JP/CN only VNs I could recommend, but I fear most people here are not versed in the languages, considering they are on a translation site.
imo it's worth it! the audience is smaller, but not nonexistent, and i've been wanting more JP yuri games to play anyway lol. even when i find titles there's no indication of how good/worth my time they are. it'd be helpful
Yeah there's a difference in treatment and historical/societal treatment as you're saying, though sometimes relationship teasing is the best that the creatives can do due to the people in power and companies in charge of things. A lot of times creatives are forced to work with companies that provide money but have a lot of say over the project, it's often a difficult relationship that restrains the hands of creatives. I often find there's a lot of nuance and so forth to these situations, which I think that's a big part of why I don't want to classify creatives as insincere without having all the facts. That's also part of why I don't want to use "Bait" as freely as you do, I see that term used so commonly for so many pieces media and relationships that to me it feels like it's commonly doing more harm than good at this point.
yeah i'm not debating that first part at all. that's actually my point, that it's out of the hands of actual creators and all about investors and demographics and money. maybe i'm also jaded, because i've seen the actual intentions of writers etc which were genuine yuri subtext scrapped in favor of safe, deniable bait. it takes a lot especially in anime to convince me a work is sincere lately.
I'm generally not a fan of this sentiment myself, because in my opinion there's a lot of sincere media out there that's being made. Also that in my experience people look back at older media very fondly through the lens of nostalgia, while ignoring any problems, and saying basically no or very little modern media has any value. I see people say all the time that there's been no good music, anime, movies, books, tv, games, so on made in the last 20-30 years, and statements like that genuinely make me sad and frustrated, because I've seen passionate creators making fantastic media every year, including media that I'm personally not into but other people love. I believe there's always been a mix of things no matter the time, and it depends on where you look.
my statement on that was actually directly about the anime industry and how it's changed since the 90s/00s. there was a lot more experimental risky stuff coming out back then because people with money were more willing to fund it, but it's stagnated since then and become very "safe", which is why you never see original stuff anymore (vs adaptions of existing works). bee train couldn't exist now. simoun as well was a commercial failure, but at least it was made and completed. even well known things like lain and evangelion would never happen now. it's just a fact that the landscape has changed, imo for the worse, but it is what it is
Whilst I strongly resonate with that sentiment, I think it is ultimately untenable: by the same measure most ship tease would be bait (though het bait). Merely not committing to a romance you could write isn't bad lest you want every story to contain those terribly forced "nobody ends up alone" relationships that regularly kill sitcoms.
yeah, this is a good point. i think it's partly because i view yuri bait as fundamentally different from het ship teasing, because of historical/societal treatment. having clear yuri can easily pigeonhole your larger story into a tight niche, and i think that discourages a lot of corps and investors funding these
the result is that yuri is inherently more risky than het -- unless it's deniable. then they get to play both fields and appease both the shippers and the straight men, homophobes, etc. it's a wider net at the cost of sincerity, basically, which is a larger issue with anime and media these days lol
to bring up a counter example, dot hack sign sets up what's clearly a romance early on with the assumption that it's het... and then reveals, actually, they're both girls and that changes nothing about the dynamic. it's like a trojan horse approach and i thought it was really clever (along with just being a great watch to begin with)
i'm not a gundam fan so this is purely about the question of what is and isn't bait, and i do think intent matters a LOT. and it can be difficult in many cases to tell, because very often we don't know the behind-the-scenes of any given work.
my take is that subtext becomes bait when they could commit, but instead go for the "plausible deniability" thing for demographic and marketing reasons. a clear example of the latter is love live, which toes the yuri line just enough to rile up shippers without ever actually being romantic. framing here is really important. if the subtext people point at is all fanservice, casual physical affection, or Super Best Friends statements, chances are it's bait! and imo bait itself isn't a bad thing at all so long as you know what you're getting into -- and that includes scummy rug pulls from canon.
subtext that is not bait, however, resembles straight romance in framing and writing. an easy example i can give is clannad's anime, where they're never shown kissing, and all the romance and love is in those small gestures that are given immense weight. this isn't to call clannad itself subtext, but to say that sincere subtextual yuri follows the same cues.
one case i enjoyed is in fresh precure, which has this scene where setsuna (in a moment of peril) calls out love's name... and love immediately wakes up from sleeping, implying this soulmate level connection. over in aikatsu, ichigo and mizuki's relationship is such strong subtext that it became text and bamco made them backpedal (because they're homophobic). secret moonlit meetings alone together, mizuki's name for her gradually changing (ichigo-chan -> hoshimiya -> ichigo) as it develops, and all the writing in season 1 that framed them as something fated and perfectly matching. good subtext doesn't need to say "i love you" out loud to clearly show two people in love.
i probably wrote too much, but... it's something i think about a lot myself, so hopefully i'm making sense here lol
has anyone brought up solfege? it's fairly old and unfortunately untranslated, but it's a yuri VN-slash-rhythm game where there are multiple girls (routes) to pursue. same company as the nurse love games and yumeutsutsu, actually! i'm still reading it, as a disclaimer, but i like it so far. the manga adaption of it iirc is actually here on dynasty
My bet is Mei ends up with Maria-sensei, while Karin/Riri and Kaoru/Minato wind up hooking up in the end. It just feels like Maria has gotten the best development with Mei over time and Tamamusi has kinda started to tease the other girls with each other too.
this is a good point and i could definitely see it. the kaoru-minato dynamic in particular has nice potential, tbh. agreed on the development with maria as well; from the beginning i assumed she'd either be endgame or impossible (no in between), and it's looking more like the former as time goes on
my ranking at this point is probably like... maria-sensei >>> minato = kaoru >> karin >>> riri. riri's main thing is that she's pure-hearted and has huge boobs, but there's not much else to her (imo). karin is interesting as a character/person, but as a love interest she's kinda out. minato is silly and sweet and absolutely a catch, and i like how genuinely smart and hardworking kaoru is (sexy!). so honestly if it went for either of them i wouldn't mind at all (but minato feels very unlikely to be endgame imo. kaoru remains to be seen).
maria is just sexy as hell. like specifically the gap between her outward persona and her actually being a total dork bottom who's hopelessly down bad. the "i love you so much but i can only watch from afar (please see me)" thing is itself a fav yuri trope of mine. re: whether they fucked or not, they totally did. maria was CLEARLY topless under the blanket in multiple shots and what little we saw was already steamy. this just isn't a porn manga so tamamusi didn't show it explicitly, but the framing is clear lol
i get the feeling the "drinking spit" line is also about kanae putting herself "below" tsugumi in worth. it's not intimacy so much as giving up her pride and human worth to do an act of service for tsugumi. i like the take in here that tsugumi killed the bird on purpose, it feels in-line with their whole dynamic here. kanae is trapped and suffocated by her guilt, and tsugumi monopolizes and takes advantage of that. this whole anthology is a hell of a read tbh

I just came to redeclare my support for maria sensei, she's truly the end goal, c'mon tamamusi, please make their commitment bear fruit.
100%! maria-sensei has GOTTA be endgame. if she isn't i'll riot tbh. that whole relationship is insanely romantic already and it's only gonna ripen with time >:D
minato is also really sweet and i hope she winds up with a happy ending too
you guys are aware this is a fictional story, right? and not like an educational handbook for proper teacher-student boundaries? the way she approached it makes perfect sense for her character imo, and with everyone in this manga clearly being flawed, it's just a reflection of her own experiences with love. she sees her younger self in nakanishi and empathizes
anyway! itaoka is a douche and nami is clearly using her. i get the feeling kaede's arc here is revolving around learning to not be a doormat and value herself more. being assertive is part of that. very curious what that cliffhanger is leading to
i'm so glad i read this today, and equally glad i'm not the only one here reading shou as autistic. it's a really genuine portrayal too. if the author isn't ND themself, they clearly know and empathize quite a bit still (maybe a loved one or something). and normally i dislike the word wholesome, but in this case it truly does feel like that without any of the negative connotations. their love for each other is infectious, and even more i really enjoy the wide supporting cast of friends. it's so warm!!
definitely saving this to keep up with. i hope umi and shou have lots more happiness ahead of them <3 and that they're able to tell umi's friends soon. i want to see nae's reaction especially! she's such a sweet person
other people here have talked about it already, but the specific flavor of isolation here is hitting home as an autistic girl. i may not be tall or butch (or an alien), but i understand being the resident freak, as well as even forgetting how to talk because you never do (early chapter 1). when you're always on the outside looking in, it's easy to have a warped sense of personhood.
and, it's interesting to me that the other students aren't Bad Guys in how they're framed? they're normal people who are just saying things without thinking too hard about the why. "it's funny" or "i'm just joking" may be true but they also don't negate any hurt your words cause. like for the alien girl marriage premise, it's refreshingly grounded and earnest. idk. looking forward to more, definitely
The premise so far is interesting— I just really don’t like how human the android is— they gave her the ability to sweat? To cry? To blush? To yawn? She can’t sleep because the bed is hard? Why would she even need to sleep, let alone need a soft bed to sleep on? Why would it even be hard to sleep? Just turn yourself off. How’s she able to determine what’s pretty? Or even find value in that? Why does she get flustered when the girl touches her hand?
Half of these functions are completely pointless as a robot and just make me ask “why create her”
Why make the robot clingy? Why make the robot petite to the point she struggles to carry a basket (which leads me to believe she obviously wasn’t designed to be a maid or do labor stuff)
Also, I’m curious if her “skin” is soft like a human’s (is her skin soft?), if she were to get stabbed, would she be fucked?...
Minor nitpick, buttttt you give the android the ability to blush, yawn, (which, the yawning implies it’s breathing, no?) cry, fear, etc yadda yadda, you add a charging panel on its back for convenience— so WHY isn’t it solar powered?? Or energy powered (like movement and stuff) or sleeping recharges it? Cuz with how she words it in this chapter, it seems like she herself needs to be plugged in to a wall in order to charge… like huh?
this is just my take, but there's more to "appearing human" than actual appearance. think of things people call "uncanny valley", or why autistic people are often seen as less human; it's a matter of behavior and body language. crying, blushing, yawning... all of those are things we associate with humanity and (more broadly) being alive.
i'm guessing the researchers didn't just want her to internally feel emotions, but also be able to express them freely. which kind of puts their "she's just a creation" comment in a funny light: her reactions (and not just her emotions) are things they programmed, so they can't see it as authentic. to them, she's just "acting" or working within her programming -> there's nothing spontaneous about it. it's actually a really interesting philosophical point, and i'm curious where the artist will take it.
unrelated, but i didn't realize it was TL'd from korean at first and tried to read it right-to-left and got REALLY confused. lol
funnily i'm here for it. hayate appeared in the very first chapter!!! woohoo!!!!!! there's my girl!
gonna elaborate a bit on this. i enjoyed strikers but dislike everything afterward because it throws away the A's cast (including hayate who's my fav), so although i do like nanofate and want to see them (and im sure we will), i have no deep attachment to vivio.
bigger question is who's "rein" here? is it a movie canon thing? she doesnt look like the tiny fairy reinforce, closer to the original (that died) actually
funnily i'm here for it. hayate appeared in the very first chapter!!! woohoo!!!!!! there's my girl!
idk how to explain it concisely, but it feels like a really poignant allegory for past abuse and the poison it leaves behind in future relationships. her aunt may have been trying to protect her, but what she did in reality left bella isolated and hurting for a very long time. so the curse is literal but also symbolic of how the scars of her past continue to poison people she cares about. and it's interesting because, her aunt set the conditions, right? she said "if you're hurt, the right person will eventually come and save you," and the setup implies that from basically the beginning.
but it isn't anna's love itself that saves her but her choosing to love anna. love is a really vulnerable thing. it's terrifying to be exposed like that, and poison is a plant's defense mechanism (much like trauma-based issues were at one point helpful during the trauma, but now only make things worse). the actual healing only occurred when she let that wall down and opened her heart, and it required her to actively decide and retake what was important to her. if you think about it that way, it's kind of like the RGU finale? similar thing going on, but imo this is twice as romantic. beautiful story and art
I don't know if this will affect future uploads of her work given Khyle's still gets posted, but it turns out Centurii-chan is a racist.
(snip)This website is full of p3dophiles so a little joke ain't gonna hurt
hey, uh, what the fuck. are you seriously conflating saying the N word with enjoying fictional stories? also you don't even have the guts to uncensor the word you're calling these people. are you even old enough to be reading nsfw, or is there math homework you should be doing right now?
anyway. i'd say joking about using the N word is a good reason to ignore an artist going forward. iirc dynasty has stopped posting artists and scanlators over less in the past, anyway
this is a weird niche question, but... i was wondering what dynasty's policy is on jp->eng translated fanfic (text). we have a few LN translations here, don't we? so would (images of) translated yuri fanfic be fair game too?
