Anything else would probably be something that hasn't been seen before.

That would be nice, but... very unlikely :/

Every month I always have some out-there theory on what is going to happen next, and it doesn't happen. I'm just going to play it save and say its the frog.

"Koyuki, what's that manga you're holding?"

"Ever heard of 'Bloom into You'? Theres a really nice aquarium scene in chapter 24!"

Its probably just the frog

Right, she bought it together with the salamander while on her field trip the previous year with the intention of giving Konatsu the frog (https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/nettaigyo_wa_yuki_ni_kogareru_ch15#24) but she was too embarassed and just gave her the salamander instead since it wouldn't have as many implications. Then Kaede noticed the frog sitting on Koyuki's desk when she visited her room (https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/nettaigyo_wa_yuki_ni_kogareru_ch18#14 and the next two pages) and now it looks like Koyuki stuffed it into the desk drawer so that Konatsu won't see it upon going to her room, but I expect Kaede to ask where she put it not knowing its real meaning so the cat will be out of the bag.

That is a good point, since I didn’t see the frog in the panel, though why would she try and hide it from Fuyuki, since he would know it’s there? The reason why the page was so interesting to me was that AFTER finding out who it was coming into her room, she told him to wait.

Though it is totally in her character to do something like that. I wouldn’t think that there would be any embarrassment though, considering that chapters 26-28 happened.

It's her secret stash of aquatic themed yuri manga

The twist being that she collects them for the inevitable aquarium date scenes to check the fish and hasn't noticed they're all yuri.

Am I the only one worried about Honami-san coming home with a tan? I thought the whole point of the sleepover was that she was going to cram school and didn't have time for stuff. Why would she be outside all day?

You misunderstood the page, even though Fuyuki and Koyuki were the ones on panel when that line was said, it was Kaede saying it to Konatsu, and Konatsu got a little tan because she had been at Aoshima (the cat island) all day with her kouhais of the aquarium club as seen in the previous half of the chapter.

Gah, another one! I feel like I had a lot of trouble telling who was speaking this chapter. Two others I caught, had to go back and reread when I realized the speaker wasn't who I thought it was. Some visual clue when off-panel characters are speaking would have helped, but that's the artist's choice.

When then speech bubbles are circular without the little v-hook thing at the end, it usually indicates the speaker is not in the panel. That being said, I had to reread the page and use context clues to figure out what was going on, too :/

I liked how this chapter (29 in its entirety) served as a direct sequel to Kaede's first chapter. The one thing that made me the most happy was that this chapter allowed this manga to give depth to a character with an otherwise tropey, plot-device like personality. Regarding her older sister leaving, if she's only two years older than Kaede, she ha to have left as soon as she graduated or even before that. Kaede's response to that was pretty reasonable in my eyes, granted that she hadn't mentioned it at all beforehand, and the fact that her sister didn't even seem bother by the fact that she wouldn't see her anymore must have really hurt for her. Its like someone that you love so much only loving you a fraction of it back, if they can leave you and not bother to stay in touch or anything.

Besides all that, This page was by far the most interesting page of the chapter:

https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/nettaigyo_wa_yuki_ni_kogareru_ch29_5#31

If Honami was a normal teen, I would assume she's hiding her vape or something lol. But I think whatever it is that she put in there is going to be important, since I don't even think her desk has a drawer in chapter 24, which is the last time I recall seeing it. The fact that she can't even show it to her brother must mean that it's ultra-embarrassing or secretive.

Overall, I enjoyed this chapter, it really served as a break between the previous arc and what ever the next one will be, and I'm looking forward to the obligatory maybe hand holding with a side of semi-gay next chapter.

Good post. To me, this series is really one of the type that reads much better when completed rather than chapter by chapter in serialization (I mean, when I re-read what’s been been done so far—I know it’s not completed).

I think right now, we are all experiencing the pain that readers of long-running shoujo (and Shonen) romance manga feel, I can't imagine reading something like Fruits Basket or Maid-sama as it was being published lol.

And yeah, I always go back to re-read this manga in particular because there are so many things that happened in previous chapters that make more sense due to information coming out in later chapters.

Yeah, I was mostly thinking that because of that hard drive failure, she’s a month behind on everything, but instead of taking a break, she did the same chapter 1.5 times in a month, which got her stuck behind. I’m sure the half chapters allow her to skip breaks so she can catch up again without over working herself. We will see at the end of this volume for sure whether she is trying to go back to longer chapters (I agree that consistently pumping out 40-50 page chapters is hard to do after falling behind, so she either has to cover half of a chapter, or shorten the content to put something out each month.)

I think Kaede has a healthier disposition than Konatsu's, if anything seeing them close would probably make her double down on her efforts to earn some money to go see her sisters. Might also explain the chapter's title.

Yeah I agree with this. This chapter should give more depth to who she is and how she thinks. She really cares about the happiness of her friends, and she’s very emotionally intuitive, as we saw in earlier chapters. This chapter also made me more interested in the arc, so good job to the mangaka for that.

when i saw the raw i thought this was filler
I don't know why but I think Kaede will only be there for the fireworks but she won't stay for the sleepover

If it’s from her POV we’ll finally get to see what she actually thinks of them... though I’m also hoping that it doesn’t make her feel more lonely

Is the next one gonna be the finale or are we getting more than 8 vols? I

I’m sure that we are going past 8. Hopefully.

The sleepover chapter can go a lot of ways. I expect it to be VERY awkward, granted that the three of them have never hung out together, and because Honami is probably really inexperienced when it comes to these things (as she is with everything). I mostly can’t wait to see how Kaede will react to the whole dropped honorifics thing. Anyways, totally hyped for the next chapter!

Also, does anyone else notice how Fuyuki, his mom, and Kaede’s relationship kinda mirrors Honami, her dad, and Konatsu’s relationship (wing-parents ftw).

They all moved elsewhere and haven't been coming back to visit.

I suspect the reason she got the job in the first place is to save up money to see them again.

I mean, In her defense, it isn’t like she’s re-drawing everything just to make it look better. She said when she originally drew the story, there were things she had to skip over and leave out for some reasons (I think it was time constraints, even though this is a doujin, she would probably want to bring new chapters to conventions oand stuff), and she wanted to go back and add in the extra plot that she originally had left out. The majority of us on here dont pay a DIME to read her stuff, so it really takes away our right to complain. I’m sure she’s thinking about this in the long run: she’d probably rather have new readers read a better work than she gave us (she mentioned that her first few chapters were only written with a pen) and once she completes this work (which I really think she will, she made the decision to redraw because she said she would never be satisfied if she didn’t tell the story to the fullest) readers that pick up her work once it is complete will appreciate it much more, as maybe there will be less holes and better art. It isn’t like she’s even leaving current readers hanging- she appears to have been posting redrawn stuff on her pixiv account, so people who financially support her ARE getting manga from her, whether it’s new plot, or reimagined pages.

In my mind, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what she is doing. She has said that she’s tried to get her work published in a magazine, but has been turned down due to the nature of the content. That is a valid reason to turn away a work, but she may be trying to redraw in order to make her work good enough to be an exception in those magazines. Us readers, especially readers that don’t financially support the author, have no right to be critical of a choice we have not even seen the results of yet. All it may end up doing is turn yourself and others away from a story that is obviously good enough to merit this much of an outrage.

Anyone knows if there's more?

What the person above said... it's been so long I almost forgot what this was at a glance

The manga is ongoing (ch 12 I think) unfortunately it seems like the translation has stopped.

I completely agree with you, Kaoru basically uses Uta as "someone to love" when she doesn't feel like she's getting affection from Reichii,

If I recall rightly, Reiichi accused Kaoru of pursuing the hug thing with him purely as a pretext to hug Uta (ostensibly as part of her strategy to get Uta to open up), and she didn't deny it.

Yeah, you’re right, I didn’t get to that part when I wrote the post (I was re-reading as I wrote)

https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/my_unrequited_love_ch08#1

I think this page serves as a better example. What I’m trying to say is, Kaoru basically wants to avoid being alone, so when Reichii isn’t there to give her attention and tend to her social needs, she uses Uta. I will say Kaoru is mostly a sensible person in terms of acknowledging what she’s doing; through the whole story she always tries to talk to Reichii about the state of their relationship, but she stops herself (until recent chapters). I’m sure that she knows that what she’s really looking for is someone to just be there for her, regardless of who it is (she stated that the reason she liked Reichii was because he always took care of her when she was alone).

Kaoru is extraordinarily bonded to and emotionally dependent on Uta, she expresses her affection in notably physical ways, and (as almost literally couldn’t be made more obvious) Kaoru uses Uta as a replacement for the attention and support that she doesn’t get from her husband.

I was re-reading the beginning chapters, and I found this:
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/my_unrequited_love_ch03#6
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/my_unrequited_love_ch03#7

I completely agree with you, Kaoru basically uses Uta as "someone to love" when she doesn't feel like she's getting affection from Reichii, or when she doesn't feel like her relationship with him is ideal (kinda like how in the first chapter she takes Uta out in Reichii's place, even though she really wanted to go with him). The closest thing I could compare it to is like a positive form of displacement, taking her feelings of love and affection towards reichii, and pushing them onto Uta. It's also important to remember that Kaoru feels partly responsible for Uta's happiness, so by placing her feelings of love onto her, she probably feels like she's killing two birds with one stone (making Uta feel happier while also getting that feeling of love that she doesn't form Reichii).

Granted the end of the most chapter, I feel like we're probably are going to enter the phase where Kaoru clarifies exactly why it is that she is so attached to Uta, as the reader, we don't necessarily know how aware she is of what she had been

doing to her, we can just tell that she feels guilty about it (I think?? I haven't read this manga over in a long time).

I mean the author can always do a call back to Uta's feelings to confirm Kaoru; Uta stated that she had always loved her, but she just didn't realize it until Kaoru had become unattainable. It's completely plausible for Kaoru to go down the same route granted her character and emotional development.

edit: I'd just like to add this page too:
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/my_unrequited_love_ch04#12

It just further proves Kaoru's romantic motivations. She clearly just wants someone to love, and someone to love her back, it doesn't seem to matter who it is.

Ah I love these Mother-Daughter relationships (IN FICTION!), but there (at least for me) is a very limited time of hotness. Like if they start a relationship at 16 and 37, it's like hot for some 10-ish years.
Just my opinion tho.
I am interested to hear what you think.

Idk I feel like people who would be into their parents would have to be into older people in the first place, so the hotness period would be at least 20-ish years.

Textbook tsundere reply.

By the way, I feel like with the author's love of callbacks, Koyuki will eventually end up saying that line: "I wish we could always be together." once the time for her to actually leave approaches. The end of the chapter I linked even has it in the editorial blurb. "... So, then what about you, Konatsu-chan? Do you want us to always be together? For me, I'm sure that I..." She won't ask her, she can't ask her, at least for now...

This whole past arc is the result of what happens when two Tsunderes befriend one another lmao

Also, that's a great catch on the "I wish we'll always be together" I haven't really been looking at dialogue callbacks, mostly visual since their easier to spot, but now I wonder what else I've been missing. (Also, I still can't figure out the meaning of those dang shells in 28.5 ;-; )

I feel like there's been too long of a setup about what Konatsu is going to do until her own high school graduation to just ignore or completely timeskip it in the two remaining chapters of volume 8. When did they first mention it, volume 4 even? And now they just re-established it last chapter and she tellingly still hasn't come up with an answer yet. In fact, the conversation on the beach just ended up being about the two's immediate future of the current summer rather than what they had started to talk about on the phone (Koyuki going to Tokyo after graduation and Konatsu having to choose a career path), so that tells me it's more likely they and the story will be taking the next developments step by step. It ending with this volume would just reek of sudden cancellation to me, as much as the comparison to the Salamander short story has been explicitly fulfilled and left behind now. I've stated for years that I never thought that would mark the end but that would rather be the jumping-off point for the author to tell her own story with that setup.

Yeah, I'm really getting some "new adventure incoming" vibes with this chapter, I agree with you on this 100%!

LMAO, that would be quite the twist!

I'm surprised that the author hasn't announced when it's going to end, it really makes you feel that there's only a couple of chapters left but I wouldn't mind going for another volume... hmmm well, if they're not together, I don't know if that's going to be fun.

You know I was wondering that too, the author did post on her twitter that it isn't ending yet, but I would assume that if it was going to be soon rather than later, we would make it to at least volume 10, since 9 is an odd number. So in the worst case scenario, I would say around 8-10 chapters

joined Jul 1, 2018

Alright, now that the chapter is on Dynasty, time for my (stupidly) long analysis of what's going on. But first:

Koyuki is dad confirmed
Premarital hand touching
RoMAnCE ARC

So, I'll say that not much of what I've previously posted can be redacted just quite yet, though I was for sure wrong about somethings regarding intentions and chapter content. I still believe that there's a lot to be done in this manga before it finishes, I guess those things I predicted will just come later rather than sooner. I really think that this series has a lot of parallels with another one of my favorite manga, The Ancient Magus' bride. Most notably where the first 45 chapters, although essential for setting up the story would be seen as a "prequel" of sorts to the actual story, which is where we are in the manga. I think this because the majority of the first 45 chapters, similar to Nettaigyo were an exploration and solidification of the main character. Although there was an ongoing conflict, the most important part of the first 45 chapters was the main character developing into a stronger person by the end. I think that Nettaigyo will most likely go this route. The past 30 chapters have been about the two main characters finding who they are and becoming comfortable with each other and with themselves. It was refreshing for Konatsu to just say that Honami leaving would "suck". After 30 chapters, we get the two main characters who are properly themselves; a bluntly honest Konatsu, who seems like will stop doing things she knows she'll regret, and an assertive (top energy??) kind and helping Koyuki, who seems to be comfortable being herself. We really have been brought full circle, as if you take a read of the first couple of chapters, you'll see the characters taking these personalities. Konatsu being forward and honest with Koyuki, pushing her way into Koyuki's seemingly impenetrable social bubble, and Koyuki being knowledgeable, caring and someone who was pretty assertive (reaching out to Konatsu in the first chapter, helping her out with fishing, finding her during the festival) in her advances with Konatsu. In a way, they are taking form of the people that they wanted to be, but in a healthy way (cue Bloom into You reference), which we as the reader know because of this past arc.

I'm guessing that this second half of 28 was also supposed to be in the previous volume, which would make plenty of sense, since it was a very good closer of this arc. As for the next arc, I would only think that it would lead to romance, especially with that cue the author gave us last chapter (of course, dad jokes had to get in the way), and with the last page of this chapter. What is next for them? Now that they know that they can't be without each other, and will be happy with just the other person, there are plenty of things to happen. But, just like The Ancient Magus' Bride, I think that it'll take chapters to rebuild and reset the presence of the story, which is no longer "two lonely girls". I'd really like them to go back to when they were happy in one another's company, having normal, mega baity, interactions with one another. If the author wants to see the story until graduation, at the pace we're at, it'll probably take another 20ish chapters to get through summer, fall, and winter. I'd say that there's plenty of time for romance to fully and naturally develop, since most of the internal character arcs have been resolved, unless there's some external factor that comes in, there wouldn't be much left to deal with emotionally besides romance (I mean, they're even on a first name basis!)

I mean in the end its up to the author, and would be totally fine if she gave us slice of life stuff for the rest of the series (Konatsu's gotta become president, the two have to find more ways to spend time with each other outside of club, etc), but I can't help but hope the relationship between the two will develop further, and at this point it wouldn't seem forced or anything. I mean if we're really going full circle, I fully expect the next few chapters being about Honami getting nervous and flustered over Konatsu for (other) reasons lol.

Short chapter, so nothing to really dissect visually, besides a few things.

This chapter appears to take place on the same beach as chapter 1, which is one of the main reasons I think that the mangaka is intentionally going full circle with character interactions in the next arc (she's been very specific about what is put in, and every setting and character and object has an underlying reason for being feature in the scene).

Twice in this chapter, black shadows were cast on Koyuki, I can't help but think that it's foreshadowing SOMETHING. I mean, the Mangaka could be hiding Koyuki's intense blushing at those moments (maybe not to spoil the next arc, since we haven't gotten a Koyuki chapter in while, but idk), but they're placed in very peculiar spots, so I can't help but think about it.

I think we find out that Konatsu if not being deferred from reverting to her old self, as in this chapter she's seen being more honest, and less lonely.

I have NO CLUE on what the seashells are signaling to. There's a panel where a crab gets covered in beach water, not sure what means either. They each take one shell (I find it funny how Koyuki's is a hermit crab shell) and place them next to one another. Maybe it was to add continuity through the chapter, but I will be revising this specific subject in later chapters because I can't seem to label it as just that.

This entire chapter needs a blushing tag strictly because of Koyuki's smile on page 2 (she totally looks like Fuyuki here)

The dialogue on page 2 really just felt like a rejection to Koyuki if she was being serious about the moon stuff the previous chapter (we won't know until we get inside her thoughts again), with the reference completely going over Konatsu's head, and Koyuki having to literally tell her that she just wanted to see her. Although it doesn't seem outside Koyuki's realm of dork to try and imitate Konatsu's dad to curb her loneliness from him leaving (though they never spoke about him leaving so idk how she would know) But anyway, I felt Koyuki's pain there.

The paneling and dialogue placement of page 15
(https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/nettaigyo_wa_yuki_ni_kogareru_ch28_5#15)
It's stunning and really one of the best pages I've read in manga. Granted how the characters are supposed to be two sides of the concept of loneliness, along with being "Summer" and "Snow", visually it is shown in such a perfect way on this page.

The same goes for page 14
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/nettaigyo_wa_yuki_ni_kogareru_ch28_5#14
Their hands literally summarize the plot of this entire arc in three drawings, I find that creatively amazing to even come up with that idea

Honami's hair is drawn in this chapter in a way that makes her look older, I just noticed it by looking back at previous chapters. Not sure whether it was intentional, but it's a nice look for her.

And that concludes my long analysis of this chapter lol

It's pretty good indeed I am reading that as well I myself was quite sad that it seemed like it would all be just subtext so wtf ? Really a confession ? From the main girls ? Holy fuck bro I need to get back on it then I'm like 7 chaps behind, I hope it's the main pair and not one of the side couples bro, holy shit I didn't think they'd actually go for it, I'm super glad they did lol, I checked the comments in mangadex like 3 weeks ago and everyone was just saying they were sure this won't go a Yuri route so this comes as a real, real surprise, if it goes nowhere imma be pissed.

If this is about chapter 28, just so you're not caught completely off guard, it's a subtext confession. Not explicit.

Yeah, it’s none of that fireworks and kisses confessions, but tbh wouldn’t be fitting for the manga either way, the implied confession seemed to be the best route
