Also about the chapter after it: Geez she doesn't even pretend she is "not into yuri" anymore does she? If the translation is correct she outright admits she has a thing for her and that is some heavy fooling around.

To be fair, Yanagi's attractiveness transcends sexuality.

That said... yeah, our girl's got the big gay.

why is she so stupid LOL

If she made good decisions we'd have to call her Makiyes

Now that is a quality pun.

i hate yuuya!!!!! i hate him!!!!!! kills

Why? He didn’t do anything.

He committed that most heinous of crimes: existing as a man in a yuri manga! He represents an existential threat, as one of our extremely gay main characters might inadvertently fall in love with him for... reasons? As such he must be eliminated.

Or something like that.

^^Not to worry, Mizuki might look like a teenager but she's actually in her 20's!

That was one of the best gags in the show.

^^^I don't have the source on hand, but apparently Lycoris Recoil did quite well in terms of disc sales. Somewhere in the range of 20-25k sold, which ranked quite highly. Considering it was an entirely original show that's pretty damn good.

Is it just me or was this anime sorta queerbaitng? Like I swear to god I thought there would be at least some handholding or a kiss on the cheek by the end.

My reply is a bit late since I only just finished the anime yesterday, but I would say there was no queerbaiting at all. Chisato's side of things was always quite clear to me, and Takina expressed her feelings in a way I thought was perfect for her.

They never did anything as obvious as kissing, but I honestly think the show was better for it. I wouldn't have minded a kiss or anything, but it wasn't necessary at all. Sometimes you can show feelings a lot better if you don't make them so obvious, and I believe that was the case here.

Like when they were being teased for "flirting" by some girls passing by because Chisato had hugged Takina to comfort her, and she just doubled down on it in front of them as if to say "You're goddamn right I'm flirting. Got a problem with that?" (which simultaneously conveys Chisato's outgoing attitude as well as how much Chisato cares about Takina, appearances and reputation be damned.)

Besides which, and I know this isn't what a lot of people here might have been most interested in, there was Mika and Yoshimatsu, whose relationship couldn't be called queerbaiting by any stretch of the imagination. (And when Takina expressed surprise, Chisato said that "love comes in many forms".)

Oh, and Chisato literally said that she thought of them as her dads.

So yeah, I don't think it would be fair to say there was queerbaiting. Perhaps it was most prominent in subtext, but that subtext wasn't covered in a heap of "plausible deniability" like we're used to (and are hypersensitive to). You didn't have to do any mental gymnastics to put it together. I was actually impressed with how graceful it was.

I would compare it to Caitlyn and Vi in Arcane. They never kissed or had sex or anything else so blatant, even though the prominent straight couple did. No one would deny that they're in love though. In fact, their relationship felt so much deeper to me, especially after that scene on Cait's bed, where they hardly even touched. If you compare that to Lycoris Recoil while factoring in differences in culture regarding expression of strong emotions, I think it's very plain to see that Chisato and Takina were very much in love.

Anyways, that's just my two cents (and one essay :P).

So I just got around to watching Lycoris Recoil yesterday and it was so much better than I could have expected. I actually watched the whole thing in one day, which is practically unheard of for me.

I can't recommend it enough.

edit: Also I've been watching Birdie Wing and it's the perfect amount of nonsensical sports anime bullshit.

...and also the opening makes me laugh because it sounds like the singer is saying "penis line, penis line!" and I have the sense of humor of a 7 year-old.

I just used a machine translator for "me fumo la clase" and it said "I smoke the class". Is that a literal translation or just your usual MTL shenanigans? I gather from reading the thread that the meaning is more like "I'll skip the class", or something along those lines.

How did the isekai slavery trope become so common anyways?

Like, you'd think it wouldn't even be something people would have a reason to satirize since, y'know, slavery is bad. (A bold statement, I know, but somebody had to say it.)

BREAKING NEWS
Yuri couple actually communicates properly instead of keeping secrets and hindering their own relationship on purpose for the first time ever in a manga!

Nah, this is actually the second time such a thing has happened. Still Sick beat it to the punch.

But now that I think about it, Still Sick is one of my other all time favorites... I'm sensing a trend, but I can't quite find the commonality. Surely it couldn't be that characters reacting to their emotions in a believable way is a good thing, right? Certainly not in a story trying to be grounded in real human emotions! No, it must be because the authors both have names containing at least one consonant.

Kasumi is a perfect specimen of the Japanese manga stereotype of lazy: she's so lazy, she won't do anything unless Sakurako initiates it.
She's like twins-separated-at-birth with this dude:
https://dynasty-scans.com/series/about_a_lazy_high_school_guy_who_woke_up_as_a_girl_one_morning_web_comic
When some guy told Yasuda he was going to force him(her) to have sex, Yasuda told him to go ahead and do it because fighting back was too much work. It had nothing to do with Yasuda's sexual preferences or kinks, or whether he wanted sex or not, it was just a matter of laziness. The cliched "lazy characters" in manga are like that, too lazy for everything except eating and sleeping; too lazy even for enjoyable things, even for sex. Zero drive all over. It's unrealistic but that's how the template works.
If a character was very active and had tremendous drive to pursue all sorts of things (career, hobbies, friendships) and was indifferent to sex then maybe you could wonder.
Kasumi? Just a lazy bum in need of a perfect serving top—who lucked out like a California bride.

Except asexuality isn't mutually exclusive with any of what you said. And to be honest, following this train of thought you could argue Kasumi is too lazy to be thought of as gay.

I'm not really interested in debating it though. I know she's not intentionally written to be ace, just like any number of characters fandoms latch onto as gay or bi or anything else are often not written to be.

What the heck is going on? Has that whole discussion in the train completely been forgotten or what?

Kasumi needs some time to think about it, her answer will eventually come, don't worry. Right now the manga is focusing on giving her the perspective she needs to figure things out, using all sorts of characters and situations, while still leaving some space for the SoL stuff. She doesn't seem to understand romance that much, despite clearly having plenty of feelings of her own, so no wonder she hasn't responded yet given that she never had to think about it before and also doesn't have quite the same brain wiring as most people do

Has there ever been any discussion about Kasumi possibly being asexual , Demi or the like in the forums or even in the manga?

I've mentioned it on occasion. Not sure if anyone else has, but there's probably someone other than me.

I absolutely love the idea of acespec Kasumi. I'm constantly seeing things in Kasumi (and her relationship with Sakurako) and thinking "Oh that is ace as hell", and I just keep getting those vibes from her, but... In a heteronormative world, vibes only go so far when it comes to queer representation. The unfortunate result is that anything less than on-screen fucking may as well be subtext, and that poses an obvious problem in regards to the depiction of non-het aces. (Although tbf het aces don't see much rep either.)

I mean, there was a manga recently that was about explicitly acespec characters, to the extent that it felt a bit "textbook-y" to me. When it ended a significant number of people popped out of the woodwork confused and/or angry about it because it was too ambiguous for them. (Which was a shame, because for the most part people were really cool about it while it was still ongoing, asking questions and wanting to learn about different aspects of asexuality.)

(Of course, there's nothing stopping Kasumi from being ace AND having sex with Sakurako, but... I don't feel like spending all day explaining that. The allos out there that don't already know are just gonna have to trust me on that one. :P)

You know how sometimes villains are more fun than heroes? That's what this story is.

Makino is very deliberately written to be a bad person. If you don't like her that's because you're not supposed to.

But she is not fun. Frankly the scum become less and less bearable for me. I said it again but it's just karma that her parents force her on the job.

She's not fun for you, and that's okay.

You don't have to enjoy everything other people enjoy.

And here you think last chapter she would have progress but no,double down on it.I can't.

Parents shouldn’t force their children to work in what THEY want them to, so her sister is as much of a victim as MC.

And yet, they accept that the sister do what she want to do. But yeah, they're scums of the earth imarite. If they're were really that much of a scum, they will have forced the sister on it and not accept her dreams. They forced into MC because she is a NEET and a scum who have no dreams.Pretty sure they wouldn't have do this a certain someone cared about what she want to do instead of caring about only her horniness.

Sorry but i can't like her at this point.

Well, the way I see it, there's tons of scanlation groups out there in need of translators. Instead of spending time on the minutiae of other peoples' translations, it makes a lot more sense to help out on untranslated things. Obviously not everyone has the time or inclination, and there's times when there's a mistranslation to point out that actually matters, but, well, you're getting all this out of the kindness of other peoples' hearts, if there's no real problem, nitpicking seems kind of silly.

But this is all totally off-topic anyways. I'd rather talk about the gay music nerds.

They sure are gay, aren't they? I really hope Jerkface ends up getting interested in the music or something instead of just "Hey, here's a guy just being in the way of the lesbians. Don't worry, he'll become irrelevant in a few chapters." You know, the kind of throw-away, single-faceted character who only exists to create drama or move the story along.
