Sigh... I know it came out, like, a decade ago, but I was planning on watching that....

Sorry, I considered using spoilers for it, but it's so well known by now I didn't think it would be necessary. Although, honestly, it's pretty clear how it'll end for the two from the moment they miss their meeting in the very first part (and obviously also the title), even if the movie keeps trolling viewers by giving us from time to time the slightest glimpses of hope, only to have it all come to nothing in the end. But anyway, not the place to discuss it here.

Honestly, any assumption of Mei being a victim of anything more than unwelcome kisses, and even those likely would have been fine with her if she hadn't already known about his other woman, goes flat-out against the actual text with the guy specifically saying he'd "treat her nicely", and this not to someone he'd need to hide his true plans from but to his actual lover, not to mention that causing any such trouble could jeopardize his plans.

I'm not sure why the majority of people in this thread hope for a poly end. Most of the time you read harem to root for one specific character to win and the story/jokes/plot all normally revolve around how the author leverages that and makes it entertaining for the readers.

So yeah, just based on chapter 1 I'm not sure who to root for but I like the ex-idol and the roommate!

I think it's how quickly she managed to fall for all of them. The usual harems take time building the (usually incredibly dense) protagonist's feelings until they eventually choose someone, this one on the other hand has her ready for any of them from the start. Harder to root for just one when they all already have a place in her heart.

Although if I had to choose just one, I'd go with the gravure idol.
