From Hachimitsu Scans: "I read somewhere that Hagino had lost the data for ch. 27 while she was working on it, so she had to do it over (I think someone said she mentioned it in one of her YouTube videos), but she didn’t have enough time to finish 27 entirely, so it was split in 2, but since it was going to be one chapter anyway, the volume will just combine the two into one, and end volume 7 with chapter 28."

Explains why there was no chapter in March despite a break not being planned and why 27 was split. Poor Hagino-sensei, that must've sucked.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I just recently noticed that Konatsu's father is still wearing his wedding ring, so it can be assumed that Konatsu's mother is dead rather than divorced.

Kase’s general antipathy to guys can be easily explained by those grotesque swirly things they have on their noses.

Heh, now I'm imagining that guys in the Kase-san universe canonically have henohenomoheji faces and everyone but Kase just sees them as perfectly normal.

It was towards the end when Inoue comes back and they meet at school, Yamada calls her Kase's ex-girlfriend and they clear up the misunderstanding.

As for Kase being overly protective and possessive towards Yamada, while it could be seen as harmful, she obviously doesn't do it with bad intentions so I don't think too hard about it.

I think she only said she won’t love anyone but Yamada.

You're right, but she said that after Yamada said she was jealous because she thought Kase had dated someone else beside her. So if Kase did, she kinda dodged admitting it to her.

Feels like that would be some unimportant amateur team rather than something Kase would be really aiming for with her talent. In fact I'm sure the current silly misunderstanding is that Kase is only going back to her hometown to help out her department store's track team for one particular event rather than planning to move back and join it full time.

Tip: Don't date anyone so weirdly possessive they try to keep even your random friends from trying to score. Especially if they compare starting a conversation with someone you like to "selling yourself cheaply" like the world's biggest creep.

At least Kase didn't leave it at that and suggested that Hana go to the beach hut and introduce herself to the college guys. I've always found Kase's possessiveness to be a little excessive, there were times where guys were talking to Yamada normally without trying to pick her up and she still came up and told them off like they were. In this case though, she was just looking out for Hana by directing her to people she knows she can trust.

I don't think so, her tipping point was her experience with Gon that gave her the push to re-evaluate the depth of her relationships with others.

I knew it, Adachi and Shimamura's first date will be in Yashiro's spaceship.

Isn't this ad saying that volume 9 will release this year? Beware of spoilers since it shows the cover of volume 7: https://twitter.com/k_tawao/status/1248483523243028480

Technically we don't know if Yashiro is a girl. Alien biology and stuff.

Would you be okay with it if the series ended with no explicit yuri but then the author made one of those "official" doujins that has it?

Sweet story. But yeah, what happened to mom? And did Konatsu not have any friends in Tokyo?

Kind of feels like excessive angst recently given the lack of actual 'text'.

Going by how Konatsu imagines the salamander suggesting she lay low and just try to fit into her class if she didn't want to feel lonely in the first chapter, it's likely that's what she also did before in Tokyo and that she just had some shallow friendships with classmates, none of which deep enough for her to stay in touch with them after moving to Ehime. She definitely never had anyone she connected with on the level of Koyuki, which is made pretty clear by how hurt she was by seeing her hang out alone with Kaede despite Kaede also being her friend. So if she moves back to Tokyo now, she feels like she's going to lose something irreplaceable as it's not simply a matter of making more friends or reconnecting with the ones she had. This distinction would be much easier to see if the series was explicit romance, but we'll take the girlship and like it.

Also, it seems rather bizarre that the aquarium club is so important to the school -- has special events -- and yet had only one member who was a super revered student. Like, you'd think some fans would show up, or students guilt-tripped into taking one for the school, either way.

Koyuki did have fans, or at least guys with the hots for her, but her status as model student never let her fit in or seem approchable enough for others to want to join the aquarium club. Koyuki's father probably could've strong-armed a couple students into joining the club to give her a hand, but he was aware of her loneliness and it's difficult for a parent to interfere and impose something on their child, so he stayed close and helped her out himself until she was able to find someone on her own.

As for the club's importance, apparently in real life the school the one in the manga is based off of has the only aquarium club in the region, and in the manga it's treated as a local attraction. It's definitely not a common sight in a high school. Ironically the manga has become an ambassador for the real-life town it's set in and last year they organized a tour with various cross-promotion, so it probably ended up making the real aquarium club more famous.

One of the things I liked is that the admittedly typical dork-Adachi move with her "confessing" while dizzy and then passing out and not remembering--a kind of typical romance trope--**actually served a purpose beyond entertainment**. It basically brute-forced a VERY stubborn Shimamura into opening a VERY closed mental door and caused her to think about all those things that she had tried so very hard for so very long to NOT think about. And it opened up the way for the kind of character development she really needed. Obviously Gon was the one who took her by the paw and lead her down the path initially but now she's willingly walking that path herself. So good for her. AND good for Adachi--since poor Adachi's character growth has been more solitary and mortifying and she still keeps getting back up and moving forward despite it.

Not gonna lie, I was ready to groan when it looked like Adachi's confession in the bathtub went unheard, but then it thankfully turned out it didn't. And then to top it off, the second confession happens during fireworks, which in shitty romcoms is almost always a recipe for the confession to get drowned out by the sound of them. I wonder if the author did it on purpose.

There will be an action thriller sequel with Adachi and Shimamura running from the law and rival gangs after Adachi finally lives up to her delinquent fame and beats Tarumi up in a fit of needless jealousy.

the fact Shimamura is not in love with Adachi yet is a pretty big flag for issues

I would argue that Shimamura is in love with her and just hasn't rationalized it yet. She didn't accept Adachi's confession lightly and put a lot of thought into it, but that's simply her nature as someone who analyzes her interactions with other people in (perhaps excessive) detail. The mere fact that she accepted it despite her being someone who keeps others at a safe distance to avoid being bothered is a sign she's willing to let Adachi challenge the way she is. It's worth noting that she thought back to how she loved Gon and that she reasoned that falling in love with someone is abrupt and not the result of a calculated process; while she fell in love with Gon when she was a kid and still acted mostly based on instinct, now she's letting Adachi get close the same way despite how much more complex her way of thinking has become. She has no frame of reference for falling in love with someone outside of a dog from her childhood, so she doesn't realize that under all her contemplations, the process is still the same.

Nah, a kiss would've been too much right now. Shimamura definitely wouldn't have gone for it since she's still not the kind of person to crave physical contact (and she's just started being a little bit self-conscious about it with Adachi), while Adachi already had to pour all her courage into confessing and considering how hard it is for her to take every little step forward, that was already more than enough for the time being.

Can we get an F in chat for Tarumi?

I assume the author went with a fish in the title because it represents the aquarium club theme more directly even though the actual metaphor in the series involves a salamander and a frog.

I'm glad Shimamura already heard the first confession but also that Adachi kept trying until she got it more or less right.

Thank you so much, sneikkimies and shades! We've finally got to this point, haven't we?

Lovely chapters, I especially liked Shimamura's side since she was the one who really had to figure some things out and come to terms with Adachi's feelings and I think the author wrote that whole process wonderfully. Now I'm just left feeling happy.
