Huh, reading the voice actors' interviews for the second Drama CD, it seems it contains developments, and even a conclusion that the manga hasn't reached yet regarding Izumi and Chiraru (these interviews are strangely filled with spoilers)… I hope that doesn't mean that Canno is gonna tell us "listen to the goddamn CDs if you want to know what happens to these two."

edit: By the way, if you're wondering why chap 18 is taking so long, that's because I currently don't have access to Photoshop, and thus cannot typeset the chapter… so until this is fixed, I'm stuck. =[

I would say it's a bit of both? She's happy that Mizuki can run on her own, but sad that she no longer "needs" her as a reason to run. I… think?

That's an issue in Canno's writing: sometimes they want to be too minimalistic and end up writing in an overly vague or ambiguous way. :\ There are some lines that I don't get myself when I translate the chapters, honestly (like Yukina's line when she kisses Towako in chap 15).

A strange chapter… pretty cute overall, and I like the new girl, but I don't really see what she brings to the story, outside of having a genuine and non-belligerent crush on Yurine. I guess my opinion on this chapter will depend on the influence Kaoru will have on the story later on (if she has any).

By the way, we have the cast for the second Drama CD: Oozora Naomi for Ai, Fukuhara Ayaka for Chiharu, and Itou Kanae for Izumi. I… don't know any of those. >.>

…Nah, we already had a full volume on Chiharu and Izumi. =[ I don't think Canno will forget the main couple two arcs in a row. I hope not. Unless they're developped in parallel like in the rose garden arc, but I don't see how that would be possible with those two. They are pretty much unrelated to Ayaka and Yurine.

I wouldn't mind a bit of focus on Ai though. Just a TAD bit, not an entire arc.

I didn't like the chapter that much, but I'm not sure why. Maybe because of Canno's annoyingly weird formulations on some lines that I don't quite get. Or Moe never being called out on her bullshit methods. Or the absence of Ayaka. Or these two's inability to locate the freaking mouth on their target.

I liked the "deal" scene with Moe and Yurine though. Great minds think alike.

One day, maybe. Chap 17 is available in French by the way. With yet another weird fetish added to Canno's repertoire.

In any case, they are clearly more than mere friends. And if Senpai's remark or Ayaka's hilarious imitation of Moe are anything to go by, it's not a secret. And my friends never licked my sweat off my chest, as far as I remember. =[

(for that matter, we need more Mizuki/Ayaka interaction. They really have a great dynamic.)

I agree about the volume 2 trio, but Yurine's interaction with the track team (and Ai too) was an important step in her opening up. The end of chapter 5 pretty much sums it up: by going towards the others, Yurine remembered that being alone was painful, and Ayaka was the trigger for that.

Apart from volume 2, every arc served the development of at least Yurine; and while it's true that Ayaka only started mellowing out to Yurine during the gardening arc, that evolution probably wouldn't have happened if Yurine hadn't opened up first. So volume 1 as a whole did indirectly serve the main couple's development. It may sound a bit far-fetched but that's how I see it.

(also, in chapter 2 Ayaka wasn't going to bite her but to kiss her I think. ^^")

did moe just propose to mizuki in that last panel? or did I misread the "for the rest of my life" bit. hahaha.

I may have exaggerated it a bit in my English translation. X) The Japanese line is "Isshō watashi no piman wo Mizuki ni ageru wa" and "isshō" means "always, the entire life". There isn't really any romantic connotation here (or maybe there is… you never know with Moe).

The side couples should serve as a lesson or development for the main couple as well as themselves. Most of the time they don't though, and that's why it's frustrating.

What do you mean "most of the time"? The only other side couple (?) story we got was Maya-Chiharu-Izumi in volume 2. That was the only part where the two MCs had no involvement. And this one isn't over yet − considering Ayaka and Yurine are both connected to the track team, I'd be surprised if they didn't have any role in it.

Chapter 16-1 and 16-2 are supposed to be a single chapter actually. Something apparently happened that forced the auhor to cut it in two (according to their Twitter). It had already happened with chapter 13.

But I do see your point (although this couple didn't really appear that much outside of two early chapters). I wouldn't say they need no development though. They clearly have some issues to solve, even if it's not as dramatic as Yukina and Towako's arc. This mini-arc should be over next chapter (I don't see it taking an entire volume at least).

Hopefully we'll get back to Ayaka and Yurine after that. I agree that it's about time they have more than one or two chapters of focus at a time.

I still wish that at some point Mizuki will call Moe out and tell her "Okay, if you have something in mind, TALK TO ME instead of making me go through weird tests!" This time it ended well thanks to their old senpai, but it could have gone horribly wrong without that.

Moe is often pretty (too?) harsh on Mizuki honnestly, even when she means to help her. But well, I guess her bluntness is part of her character. She prefers to shake up Mizuki rather than being too "lax" with her.

On another note… going by the Behind the Scenes, Moe and Mizuki are currently together. Alone. In a hotel room. At night. Just before an important and stressful event. I guess now they'll have to face another kind of abstinence.

(and what's Kagura from Azumanga Daioh doing in this series by the way?)

As for Sugar Room and Kanarashi, considering it has a recommendation from Canno (maybe they're from the same circle?), I assume it's a newcomer. I never heard of this manga at least, and mangaupdates doesn't have any info on it. :x

I hope Ayaka and Yurine will be involved in part 2. They're both close to the track team after all.

Chap 16 part 1 is in French on Batoto! It's a tiny lil' chapter (10 pages) because Canno didn't have enough time or something. The English version should be up this evening or tomorrow.
