I don't think they're pivoting to romantic YuriMoko at least. There have been lots of recent chapters of them in traditionally romantic settings (sleepover, late night call, alone in the nurse's office) with absolutely nothing romantic happening. There might be more focus on their friendship, though.

It's definitely worth reading if you like comedic slice-of-life manga about gay high school girls. Some of them are dating, others are in a pre-relationship stage with their girl. It's a light, breezy read, aside from one couple, whose story deals with heavier themes.

Also, it takes the manga a few volumes to find its style. The early chapters have worse art, lewder content and meaner characters than its current form. Chie in particular ends up with a completely different personality from her original appearance in the first chapter.

I recommend re-reading some of the chapters tagged Kaoru x Shizuka. When Kaoru realized Shizuka was about to escape her clutches, she started sabotaging her relationship with Mio, played mind games with her and even sexually assaulted her in chapter 68. I like Kaoru, but she's definitely the worst person in in this manga.

That being said, I actually have a harder time understanding compensated dating than I do outright prostitution. Paying for sex is pretty straigh-forward, but paying for someone to essentially just hang out with you for an hour or two kind of baffles me. There's no rhyme or reason to the passage of time. Ch 14, the third Shizuka/Mio chapter, takes place on Valentine's Day, which is of course in mid-February. The Japanese school year ends in March, which is when Shizuka would graduate. However, Ch 50 is set in summer and shows Shizuka, still clearly a student at the school, inviting Mio to a festival with her. Similarly, Honoka first meets Ed and Ian at their Christmas party in Ch 57 and then goes to a summer festival with them in ch 93, with no indication of anyone moving up a grade or Eli returning to America.

I have a theory that the manga is set in the same universe as Yuru Yuri and they're stuck in the same time loop.

So with how that was framed, is Heidi trans or is she a crossdresser?
