Lapis is super savvy about manipulating people. It would be kind of bad writing for her not to see through Rubeus pretty much immediately. I get that jealousy is a powerful force but it feels like she is smart enough not to get dragged down by it. Then again, her whole plan is basically a pointless self sacrifice so maybe I am giving her too much credit.

I agree, especially since he directly insulted not just Diana but also Natalie. She might be possessive/competitive with Diana but she's absolutely not gonna act based on that goober's influence lol. I think that scene was mostly to show us Rubeus is still acting against the two of them and will have future backhanded schemes in store.

Go back and look at her scenes with that lens and maybe you'll see what I mean. I'm not predicting any sort of ending based on it, just a character detail of Kasumi, that she's open to having multiple girlfriends.

Every time a new chapter comes out I feel compelled to reread the series, I like it so much. Findings this time:
1) Wrt who Reona was supposed to meet, I think it's very likely to be Non: look at her profile in volume 2. The attached picture is a duet with somebody she's hidden with a sticker, but the hair style exactly matches Non's hair.
2) Anyone else get major poly vibes from Kasumi specifically? Besides her obviously blushing and looking enamored around Michi she also repeatedly compares Michi to her gf, talks about Michi constantly to her gf, in her flashback to how she met her gf says "there's something about off-beat girls, I always end up..." while comparing them again and showing a love at first sight moment with senpai, and specifically mentions when she comes out to Michi she's doing it "in part because I want you to be friends with Sayaka-senpai". So it really feels like she's dreaming of a weirdo girl harem lol

I'm expecting possession to be the loophole they need to directly communicate. Even if Honami still can't talk, I'd bet Michi can address her directly in that state. She should probably come out to Kasumi sooner rather than later considering she got hurt this time, and maybe then Kasumi could even consent to lending out her body for a moment. Or Reona lmao you tell her she can get possessed by Honami's ghost and she'd sign up in a heartbeat

The thing about Sorawo being collected is that she's not lol. She's just super not aware of herself. Since we're locked to her perspective most of the time, we don't get a description of her reactions to things because she doesn't notice herself reacting: what we get far more often is seeing Toriko reacting to Sorawo making a face or saying something odd, and Sorawo thinking "huh, was I making a face? Did I say something weird?"
Sometimes though something hits her in a way that she can't not notice, can't not viscerally feel in a way that directly bleeds into our perspective through her.

I'm so confused by Yoru's shirt that looks like a dress shirt but has large printing on the sleeves and back.

We've come so far from people doubting whether this manga was even yuri, lol.

I dunno if you're reading the same comment section as me, but people were arguing about it not long ago saying it was yuribait. I'm sure it'll come up again.

To be fair, there's still a pretty good chance that we won't see anything definitive as far as confirmed romance goes. It all depends on how you define ''bait'' in the end.

None of the author's other works have stopped at subtextual gayness. They got a ton of subtext but the characters being wlw is never on that low level.

If anyone here hasn't read it yet I super recommend Arai-sensei's one shot "The Real Momoka," it's an easy 10/10 for me.

Lol that quoted post was a reply to me and I really don't know how we got from "rather than turning your brain off or reading through a lens of moral judgement you can read through a lens of empathy and emotion" to "heh foolish horny idiots can't think because of a lack of blood"

In the immortal words of the author of Otherside Picnic: "This too is yuri". The author clearly just trusts your intelligence too much to tell you outright.
(Also because sexuality would probably push Akari well over the line in how bearable her creepiness is due to, y'know, how basically nobody consents to the things she does with them.)

Thinking of peaches . . . hang on, she's allergic? I must have missed that.

It only came up once, she gets stomach problems if she eats raw peaches, but she's fine with processed ones like peach baked goods. I think this was a "secret" told to Xingyuan by the nail art gay with the stutter, iirc.

I'm very disappointed despite the title that this is mere run of the mill uninteresting pornography instead of something inspired by the divine art known as "Is My Hobby Weird".

Dang, all the predictions that Komachi were the villain were completely wrong. We fell into the same trap her relatives and everyone else did.
With no villain in sight, it seems like we're speeding into the endgame. I loved the series overall. I'm glad I could experience it with the rest of you

I called her as suicidally depressed rather than evil all the way back after the chapter where she tries to "help" Satsuki jump off the roof, lol. The real twist I definitely did not guess, one I doubt many people could have, is Komachi fully recognizing Satsuki's preconception before they even talk in chapter 1, due to having her own form of preconception. That was a satisfying twist imo

My take is that it's not a metaphor for conversion therapy but rather gender assignment at birth. Her mother assigned her male in the most literal way. But underneath the assignment and expectations, underneath the mask of masculinity she was forced to wear, she's a woman, and she's decided to throw away that mask and damn the consequences so she can live her truth. As it is IRL with trans women.

I somehow missed the last 5 uploads, so I got to read 6 chapters (35-40) at once. What a ride! But I can't help but wonder how different it would have been to read some of that in Japanese, where the language is less gendered. (Edit: not intended as criticism of the translation, merely an observation on the linguistic challenges.)

P.S., it was supervised handholding. She made Ralaire stay with them.

oh Inori was super explicit about this arc in the LN, because she knows cis/het/cishet people and how willfully blind to inference when it comes to queer themes. She stops just short of explicitly calling Yu trans, except she DOES call Rei's deceased friend trans, and has Rei directly compare the two, saying she cares to much about Yu's situation because she's afraid she'll also end up dead like her other trans friend. Everything else about this arc has been incredibly specific, even to the point of making sure we know who's an exclusive lesbian and who's bi lol. I don't think the gendered inference of language from things like pronouns would change how this arc reads one way or another when Inori's working so hard to make sure everybody gets it.... of course I've seen people argue on twitter claiming Yu can't be trans ANYWAY, because "biology," which at this point is less misunderstanding the text and more just arguing with the author over her understanding of transness. IMO the fact that Yu "was always a woman" but "assigned male by her mother" is a very deliberate point Inori's making about the validity of trans women's womanhood: to deny Yu is a woman is to deny the factual reality about her, rather than making any sort of subjective or "political" claim. The same is true about non-magical trans girls IRL. If a woman tells you she's a woman then she's a woman, period, regardless of how you might have interpreted her before.

PS: One of the only changes from the LN I noticed with this arc is that the manga implies the Crosswise Curse physically changed Yu's body, whereas the LN says it's a semi-permanent illusion causing people to see her a certain way, not causing her to BE a certain way. But that might have been more complicated to communicate with a smaller text budget, idk.

The best handling of bisexuality as a topic and transing as a topic, in one single XXL chapter. :)

Why are people looking for a villain in a story that doesn't have nor need one? The 'antagonist' here is a difficult to deal with life situation, and all three of our main characters are the protagonists struggling with it in their own way. This is an extremely common format for a story, evil scheming secret villains are comparatively very very rare. You'll enjoy the story much more if you stop getting distracted searching for something that's not there and focus on what is: a human drama about three women struggling to adapt to some weird shit that happened.

Read this again, I like everyone and it's exactly as long as it needs to be. Honestly pretty surprised people expected more from a series called "An Easy Introduction," lol. The author had a clear goal and imo passed it with flying colors.

Okay I gotta counter the revisionism saying Akira wasn't totally a possibility with Satsuki. There's some major butterfly moment romantic scenes between them, like in chapter 16 or 56. Satsuki's gay as hell for most girls who get close to her but consistently Akira and Komachi have been making her go dokidoki the entire series.

satsuki isn't immune to komachi's power, or at least it wouldn't make sense for her to be. this doesn't really work as a solution bc satsuki can't really save herself unless it's an accident or something like that. if she gets cancer or some other disease, it's joever.

I really don't think Komachi actually causes people to die. There's nothing about her story that strains a plausible non supernatural string of unfortunate experiences. It's easy to imagine her ability is predictive, not a cause, just like Satsuki and Prez. This relatively peaceful ending further implies that I think.

Also I'm pretty sure the event in the manga's cold open was what Seo had planned that Komachi overlooked, the explosion in the classroom that Satsuki had to push herself multiple times to discover and eventually threw herself through a window to disarm. The manga seems to be in a denouement now, so I'm not expecting major dramatic plot events a from here on

Official English version coming eventually, as well as ten other languages across the globe. This is a huge list, omg. Especially for queer fiction that started as something independently published on twitter? Incredible.
