This is more the story of heteronormative/sexist pressures in the work place and that marriage is something that's not for you if you're gay. That's how I see it, anyway. You can't really say much at work regarding your personal life and everyone thinks you're single and should be married to get that nuclear family started up.

Writing with straightness in mind? I mean, it's a josei romance manga. That's sort of like lambasting Akira Toriyama for having all those fight scenes in Dragonball when he has a perfectly good slice of life mood going on every few episodes. I love queer and yuri works too, but I wouldn't expect them to show up in other genres. Josei romance stories are all about melodramatic, anxiety-inducing dynamics, like Hachi basically being a prisoner in her home. However! There's some yuri that grew out of that genre, and if Nana but yuri is your jam... check these out:

Do we have those? Do you mean like weaponized gas and bubonic plague bombs? I don't think we have any population attacking agents since Japan's plague bombs on China in WW2. Or are you talking things that kill crops? Most of what I can think of are assassination tools like anthrax or larger nerve gas attacks. If such things entered Touhou land... it would require a modern state implementing it or be analogous to poisoning or yokai attacks. As for bioterrorism, this doujinshi basically could be an account of that happening. There are a worrying number of smallpox samples missing after the fall of the USSR. One being intentionally deployed today is feasible.

On the flip side, if modern military attacks happened on Gensokyo, it would probably crumble.

I'd totally tag this mystery. A huge yikes on the timing considering the Reitaisai this would've been at was canceled.

Unfortunately, it only works with someone of relatively the same body type as the person with spiritual powers. I don't know the exact rules, but Emi was similar enough that it would work while Emi's sister and Mahoro's mom are not. That being said...

I can't read Japanese, but something along these lines happens with Mahomom. Not quite the same level as Mahoro, but... something. At least, that appears to be latest cliffhanger.

Anyone else still getting really mixed messages? I mean, the mixed messages are on purpose, which makes it more confusing. Mikanuji is making it clear that Iori has a drinking problem and is prominently displaying her beers in each panel they show up in (and having characters call it out), but at the same time you have the overlay of her gf talking about how everything is sunshine and rainbows and a relationship that gives her life meaning.

And these tensions aren't really addressed or resolved, just set up and not followed up on. Is Mikanuji portraying this as unhealthy codependency or as a relationship where they can work with their faults to find fulfillment? I'm not really getting a clear indication either way.

Got my copy today, can confirm there's no Itou Hach in the Yen Press release. Which as I mentioned, including it would've been an absolutely terrible, and likely illegal, decision. Publishers aren't libertarian bastions trying to make a statement, they're running a business. If you need an outlet for your activism, look into contacting your elected officials to get those laws that allow people to marry 14-year-olds off the books. I think both factions could be united here on that front.

In a new move, there's a parental advisory warning on the cover, it's rated M, and it came in shrink wrap, which says they probably anticipated controversy over this release. All that being said, there isn't much in the way of nudity or sex in the book, and certainly less than in many Seven Seas yuri. Even Eri Ejima's story is tame. Really, it looks like Tamamusi is the only one.
