And that's not even taking into account the twist that apparently they already started coming up with Rumors in hospital and Iroha even created some of them, so she should have recognize them. So convent she only remembered about it when we were almost done with Rumors anyway.

I thought it made sense because it seems the Eternal Sakura is the only rumor she personally made, but it is convenient that she somehow began remembering it exactly when it was needed. I was baffled when she suddenly knew that they had to go to the middle of some random forest to find some random rumor that conveniently led to the Magius' base. The revelation that she came up with it was sweet, but definitely max story convenience with no in-universe explanation why she'd remember at that exact moment.

I honestly didn't like it. Not to mention the fact Homura's and Madokami's episode stories explains how this universe came to be (so good luck if you never rolled for those)

Ah I'd heard those two's MSS are really important for MR lore. I hope they get re-runs when I have enough stones and then I can experience it myself. Otherwise if I get impatient, I'll just have to watch it.

While the usage of map was nice, what killed it for me was the insanely slow pace they were releasing those at.

Oh, absolutely, Chapter 7 was a drag and every time we got a tiny bit of it, and it wasn't over, I started spamming our Discord server with "I want to get off Mr. Chapter 7's Wild Ride..."

Chap 8 stuff

Okay so, here's the real reason the Yachiyo vs Mami fight happened... because people wanted it, no, seriously, that's the entire reason, they are both the eldest of their respective teams, people had been making fanart of the two fighting since the game launched, when push comes to shove, that entire scene is fanservice

You know what, that makes a lot more sense. I was quite confused when so much time was put into emphasizing that Tsuruno couldn't be saved without their perfect understanding of her, and then Yachiyo just goes and beats up Holy Mami and that was the end of that. I'm pretty sure one of the things they say to each other before they clash is there's no way they could ever understand one another. >.> So much for the power of friendship.

Every mission has a fight, whatever it's related to story or a random one. I think you felt that, because we were fighting zombie Feathers for like 90% story

It was partly that for me, and partly that we learn nothing new in the first half of the chapter. That humongous multicolored series of episodes that is just Momoko, Tsuruno, and co. hunting down every magical girl in the city was tedious to sit through because we learn nothing new story wise. Actually if I'd finished more of the given magical girls' MSS before I played that chapter, I might have liked it more, but because I hadn't, I was just impatient for the story to keep on going. They literally re-use the same lines each episode when they're convincing the others of how the Wings are dangerous, "They're growing and protecting witches / Uwasa!" Each series of episodes begins the same way, with brainwashed Feathers attacking the magical girls of the day. Then we fight those feathers. Rinse and repeat. There was way too much repetition. So yeah, and as somebody who wasn't invested in 60% of those characters that showed up and hadn't played through their MSS, it meant less to me. If I were to unlock their MSS and then go back to the scenes where Mitama tells them the truth, I would potentially enjoy it more then.

I'd forgotten actually that AI said that lol. I was looking out for clues regarding Ui's involvement up until chapter 8, and then I forgot about her in the ensuring melee. That is confusing though, because she disappeared after Iroha's wish. Why would Ui getting better lead to all of these events? And if Ui is Eve directly, that would mean she would have had to become a magical girl first, how could she have contracted with Kyubey when in that timeline she no longer exists/is remembered? It seems more and more convoluted. Oh that also begs the question of why Iroha remembered her after picking up the little Kyubey. My guess is that it's because Ui is related to her wish, and Kyubey being the granter of wishes -> something happens -> she remembered? There's also the question of what the little Kyubey is for that matter. I was hoping that Touka and Nemu would comment on the little Kyubey being there in the chapel/Kamihama even though Eve's forcefield is supposed to block out Kyubeys, but I guess that'll have to remain a mystery for longer.

Anyway it's nice to know that the next chapter is the last one in this arc, so at least most of the main mysteries introduced at this point should be solved.

Something about story we haven't been commenting on though, is Another Story, which while much shorter than the main story

I'm playing through it right now, so I look forward to seeing the Holy Quintet's antics. I've only just started chapter 5, and it's nice to see Homura thinking about the Magius's promise of saving magical girls. It gets hinted at very briefly in the main story, like one line of dialogue, but it's clear knowing her that it should bother her a lot.

I truly wonder what the "right" choice would have been here. Marisa did become a magician in the end, but everything they had to do to get her there has been concealed. Supposedly as a magician she should have the big brain and the body to handle that now if she were to find out, but it is sketchy how her overcoming her doubts is no longer her own accomplishment. That would be fine if she at least remembered and accepted the help, which is not what happens.

I guess at this point them keeping Marisa in the dark is the best option, because Reimu especially telling Marisa what happened would likely cause pain and be for the purpose of alleviating Reimu's guilt.

In my imagined continuation though, somebody would eventually tell her.

Some lovely subtle bits here, such as her leaving her package hanging in the air while she ties up the falling load, and where she leaves a Sakuya-shaped hole in the spores in the forest. Well done.

I would have missed the spores for sure if it hadn't been pointed out.

Really is a lovely work, haven't seen any others like it. The silence and lack of text is befitting of her moments of frozen time. Drawing snapshots of so many characters and their interactions makes this feel like a love letter to that world. I find it to be a beautiful creation.

Huh, Tewi is still a youkai in the end, she'd never have been caught by two incompetent thugs. If nothing else she would have ran lol, no way they could have caught her in the Bamboo Forest. The part about how fortune/misfortune work was cool. I'm sure it is true that her powers pretty much only work for herself.

I guess having 4 slots for a natural 4 star unit would make it somewhat easier than what I did.

4 slot, max memoria, maxed out nat 4* unit blow pretty much all story content released so far out of the water. The support Ashley I used took down the Uwasa of the Queen Bear in one turn once there was a Puella combo.

Rant incoming, just cause I do like the story a lot. Chapter 6-9 definitely all had multiple moments I loved and that I found impactful.

Chapter 6: Iroha getting angry because of Yachiyo's survivor guilt leading to her pushing them away and taking a stand??? Still the most emotionally raw scene in the main story for me. I like how it gets lampshaded too right after they leave the museum, by Iroha ruefully admitting she'd said a lot of cool stuff right before they almost got killed by Holy Mami. Also the chapter with an example of good gameplay/story integration, because I at least really felt the weight of needing to beat the Uwasa given what it would prove to Yachiyo. In addition, this chapter proved to me that that IroYa is canon. I mean Iroha is literally the only person out of the team who doesn't get brainwashed, partly because she trusted Yachiyo's judgment. And then when Yachiyo finally calls Iroha by her first name, my internal monologue was a series of keyboard smashes.

Chapter 7: Tsuruno finally having a place she could relax. How her having a blank face became a plot point/expanded on was something I liked, just cause I'd never thought of it that way before. Chapter 7's map layout was clever and really gave a sense of reality to the city, fleshing it out. I'd never thought about what schools they went to or where they came from, but that chapter recontextualized all of it to show how those were important in shaping their backgrounds, perspectives, and who they have relationships with. I didn't think that the writers would have thought it through in such detail. I love how they purposefully introduced Kanagi as a total badass.

Chapter 8: Chapter 8 was so tedious honestly, that was my least favorite chapter to play through because there were so many battles, and the story was mostly about setting them up to all get dragged into the conflict or lines about them fighting. Also I didn't fully get how Yachiyo got through to Mami. I don't actually get what they connected on, so that part wasn't fully believable. But that it did bring in all of the other magical girls in the entire city definitely upped the stakes, in addition to introducing Walpurgisnacht.

Chapter 9: And then Chapter 9 more than made up for anything chapter 8 lacked. Still a lot of dialogue about fighting, but the way everything they do falls exactly into what the Magius are looking for was great. Mifuyu sacrificing all her power and potentially life to destroy the Uwasa, only for that to be what the Magius wanted, was quite tragic. Ui being revealed as Eve was wtf.

So I vacillate between feeling the way the stakes are raised sequentially is like a typical action story and too boring to feeling punched in the gut by character motivations and actions. This isn't even half of what I could say, but rant over.

Ultimately Ren won and thus is able to join her girlfriend Rika in my team.

Cute. That's the only ending this game needs.

I've finally caught up with the main story chapters released in NA so far. I'm actually really excited for chapter 10 now. I've seen people say the story's not as good as the original, and I had moments too where I was wondering when they'd get to the next plot point already or "the amount of fighting they're doing is ridiculous" or whatever, but overall, I like the main direction it's going in. Maybe I'm not genre-savvy enough, but the end of chapter 9 genuinely took me off guard.

The difficulty spike during the boss battles was a nice touch. If I hadn't used a bunch of whale supports, I would have had no chance of clearing those battles with my current team.

By the way, are we supposed to be talking about Magia Record doujin in here or does that not matter? XD

Way to flex, my lvl 75 Moemura/Kyoko and the only lvl 100 I have, Kaede, would beg to disagree. XD I have 40% win rate so far, which only happened by refreshing match ups five times. I think I'm just going to focus on getting as many medals as possible and say fuck it to trying to rank anywhere. XD

Pfft okay, the pacing of this was incredibly fast and it almost felt like the author was trying to get all of the relationship flags out of the way more than anything, but it is refreshing just having the relationship happen. I hope the main story lives up to its potential. It's a little barebones currently.

With the Adachi and Shimamura volume 6 chapter releases, somebody made a comment about being glad the author kept the character's character growth in, and that reminded me of YagaKimi's play. When Yuu asks Koyomi to change the ending because it should reflect what the protagonist goes through throughout the play. That's always being one of the scenes that stuck out to me the most, because it was so simple and made so much sense, and yet the idea behind it was easy to forget too.

I'd also like to point out that there are severe disadvantages to keeping Ashley NA only, mainly she will never get to appear in any events or have any appereances in the main story, will have no interaction with other characters besides those few she already got, will receive no new costumes from seasonal events(due to not appearing in them), on the fandom side of things, also get next to no fanart, as well as never getting to appear in any doujins, and so on, basically all things that severely screw up anyone who likes Ashley for more than just a Mirrors statstick.

This wins me over to the no-exclusivity-between-servers faction. When the primary appeal of the Madoka series/MR is in the strength of its characters, having a character be exclusive and lose out on any potential fandom/story interaction makes no sense.

Well it makes perfect sense from a marketing to NA perspective, but not fandom enjoyment and potentially long-term investment, not that I know what the numbers would look like.

I think there's still plenty of new Touhou content being created, just look at pixiv / danbooru, and a lot of music/doujin circles are also still active but I guess just not much has been posted here recently.

This might not be the typical type of jealousy but the girls in the first arc technically get jealous of each other a lot. Love/Death. I suggest it half-jokingly, half-seriously cause it's a gag manga where the leads are trying to kill each other all the time over the pettiest things. Useless Princesses recently did have a rejection scene, though that's not the main focus of the story.

We have 6 NA exclusive formations that are really strong, so it's not like it'd be first.

I was shocked when I found out the tercio formations are NA exclusive because they're the best formations in the game in terms of pure stat boost, element flexibility, and not getting three megucas blasted to oblivion at once.

Unrelated, this event has finally forced me to use up AP potions one after one. Well not even actual AP potions, just the 50 AP ones. XD That's probably a good thing cause otherwise I'd have 70 of those being hoarded for no reason.

Depends on the definition of forgiving cause yeah like Dragalia doesn't have a pity system and MR does. The pace of it is what makes it unforgiving, because to get pity, you have to build up a number of stones beforehand and I believe that stones are essentially non-grindable after a certain point which means you're timelocked into how many you can have at a time and therefore how many banners you can get pity on given the fast pace. There's still a month-ish before anniversary, but I'll barely have 100 pulls saved up by that time lol. Going to be so sad if I get spooked by a non-limited unit.

That'd be pretty sad if they really did close NA right after catching up. Don't know how much evidence there is for something like that happening though.

I feel pretty behind lol, cause even in-game, the teams I see in mirrors and as support options are almost always stronger than mine. Stronger as in they've got at least one lvl 100 5* character which I don't even have yet. XD Usually it's more than that and they've got multiple memoria slots unlocked too, also rare for me. Literally only got Kaede's 2nd unlocked three days ago during Beachside event and Moemura's yesterday. Ah well at least I can clear most events with OP support.

First time I heard Ashley's voiced lines was hilariously baffling. I mean I assumed it was supposed to be tongue in cheek stereotyping, so that was fine.

I'm glad I play Dragalia Lost too because that game is much more forgiving progress/gacha wise.

On an unrelated note, today I maxed out my Tsuruno and Masara's episode level; maxed out Iroha, Yachiyo, and Hinano's magia level; and got Hinano and Yachiyo's doppel so I guess today was another day of much progress. I also finished clearing the event shop.

Wow, how have you gotten that much done in one day? Were they already close to being maxed out? I've yet to get anybody to episode lvl 5, much less unlock a doppel. Have also only logged in 30 days in total if that explains it.
