Maybe other chapters were like this, and I forgot, but reading this (19) chapter, I had to double-check a few times to see if this wasn't some shitposty chapter, with the art style and everything. Not that I minded, but I really had to check to make sure.

It's definitely not the only chapter like this, this style is basically how the author keeps the manga fun (at least for herself? Lol) when the content is mostly just conversations. The chapter where Kasumi came out to Michi was in particular very similar.

Lol using "sane" in your acronym for good sex is so lame. That's a word that basically means nothing concrete, but also insane sex is good

Are there any other horror manga like this one, where it has creepy background details that aren't noticed by the characters or pointed out explicitly to the reader, until they build up? It's a great technique in horror movies but for some reason this is the first time I've seen it in a manga.

We're definitely in at minimum subtext territory with these images our main character keeps picturing lol

Maki witnesses how the men at the mixer treat Mei: asking creepy and invasive questions, trying to get her drunk, showing a total lack of respect for her as a human being. It seems like she realizes that something isn't right, and though she doesn't confront them directly, she diverts their attention to herself, possibly saving Mei from trouble.

And yet, a few days later she calls the men "bastards" not for being massive creeps... But because she failed to hook any of them. She is even excited at the possibility that one of them might be texting her, and doesn't even seem to know what Mei is thanking her for. Which draws into question whether she indeed realized what was going on at the time, or if she was just jealous of Mei getting more attention.

I'm only making note of this because the oneshot presents it without comment and just kind of leaves it on the table. Maybe there is no other point to it than Maki being an airhead and in denial, but even then she lacks awareness on a level where it's more concerning than funny. And maybe there is something unpleasant about a yuri work using men's misogynistic behavior as a setup without confronting it at all. I have seen the trope of woman A saves woman B from trouble at a mixer, but when foul play is involved there's usually at least some gesturing at the wrongness of it, but the protagonist in this one seems entirely oblivious to it.

Yes yes, it's not that deep, I'm ruining the wholesome gyaru yuri with my yapping, etc. Feel free to throw any stray rocks at me

She'd been drinking so I read it as her memory of that moment being too fuzzy. Her intentions were good in the moment, and she wasn't interested in the guys, but the next morning was too hungover to remember these details quickly.

Wondering if this is gonna end up as some kind of queer-platonic polycule between Asaki, Remu, and Remu's sister. If Remu and Meguru are exclusively into dolls & plushies respectively, then I don't really see any of these characters doing sex stuff with each other without dolls as a proxy.

There's some interpersonal kinks that could apply, like playacting as an inanimate doll for example. Just as a possibility.

I'm sad that the show only got 8 episodes, but at least they're half hour episodes compared to "She Loves to Cook"'s ten minute episodes. It's been really great so far, although I've missed some of the scenes they edited out, particularly Ayaka x Risa.

You wanted to see Risa miserable again huh? But seriously, that's something I'm not surprised they cut. The main themes of the series work without her involvement, so if they had to move something around I'm not surprised it was her. They chose to focus on the main issues. I'm even more interested in this extra chapter, now. I'm assuming it must be a future chapter.

I'm not surprised that they cut it either, I just really like how that arc goes with the ending especially. One other big thing missing: Ayaka going "oh, that's right! I'm a lesbian, of course!" the overall content is still there but the joke is gone, rip

I looked up the show's ending theme and OMG this music video and full song! So gay! So wonderful! I love them!!

No. They threw out her dolls, and then her parents divorced at some point after that.

How Do We Relationship is probably the single best ongoing manga about lesbians out there, imo. The main other manga I can think of in the "about lesbians" category and competes in quality is Ayaka is In Love With Hiroko, and that's completed.
Totally worth paying to access How Do We Relationship's official translation imo :)

Interesting overlap between the chapter and the most recent chapter of How Do We Relationship, particularly ending on the same kind of scene.

Can't wait for the next chapter of HDWR!

100%. The emotions of the current arc are incredible, it's like a "so good you fear how it will inevitably go bad" thing (which is also like the exact same kind of thinking that caused their original breakup lol)

Would reading yuri manga considered a fetish?

No, iirc a sexual fetish is defined as a specific sexual habit you can't do without. The term is a metaphor in this context, since the original meaning was an object/tool used for prayer and other spiritual activities, like a rosary (although the typical examples are much much more orientalist in nature like "shrunken heads"). The metaphor kinda sucks for many things since all it really has going for it is "regular use" and "emotional release", among other problems, so most people on the internet talk about "kink" instead: any particular sexual special interest that might deviate from the average or typical person's interests. Yuri manga is probably too broad as a category to count as "particular," although you could try to argue semantics lol.

Sorry but it's hysterically funny to see the comments from the ace fans following the author thanks to Crescent Moon and Donuts be baffled by this new very different series. Real "fish out of water" moment huh?
Anyway this premise is fascinating and I didn't find the execution, at least so far, nearly as cringe as I feared (no feelings of sympathetic shame for this dollfucker lol). I look forward to seeing where the author takes this.

i would much prefer "mum" not to be used over "mom", its very distracting
unless its used to as distinct variation of "mom" in japanese then stick with "mom"

Mom is a variation of mum tho, not the other way around

Ooooh the Brits and Americans are getting into spicy linguistic fights in the yuri forums

I'm not even British.
Mum is just older than mom (mum 1823, mom 1867) so technically mom is the variation

There isn't a hierarchy here they're both just shortenings of mother, lmao. I wish people would stop fighting over British English vs American English, just get used to seeing both and accept that sometimes a word will be spelled slightly different from how you'd spell it and that doesn't really matter.

I'm confused about the "I thought I'd only have to compete with you with men..." line, since I didn't even realize those two characters know each other, let alone be close enough to know lil bro's gay. Unless I'm mistaking the speaker for someone else? I thought she was the ex-friend of Xingyuan, but maybe I'm mistaking her for someone else.

Interesting thing at the end there, I thought Honda's friend might one of the idol girls, the one who said she was meeting somebody. But that text conversation makes it seem like it's just another fan... Or someone posing as such, at least (there's no point in highlighting them if there's nothing there, right?)

I wonder why Kasumi keeps the "fairy" topic to herself instead of asking about it. Especially with senpai since she's very open about what she sees.

I find it noteworthy that our protagonist really just said "I want to remain a boy so I can fulfill the heteronormative milestone of PIV and that's about it, that's my only attachment to the male gender, that mine personally happens to come with that one piece of equipment." I bet if they start taking feminizing HRT they can bypass the curse and thus keep the equipment while getting rid of the gender ;) there's our happy ending.

Also my money is on the teeth-style claim being bullshit, that would require the women to have something physically change and there's been zero indication that's been a thing. It's possible she's not lying but if she isn't she just didn't understand what she saw or heard, because she's also just a dumb teenager who doesn't even know women can like women yet.

Wow, this is a masterpiece of psychological horror. It's kind of hilarious to see people claim this is "fetishizing abuse," we have a name for that subgenre of fiction and it's "dark romance". You might notice it has a positive word, "romance," that is something completely absent from this story. These are two people trapped in misery and torment, unable to untangle themselves because they're pulling in opposite directions. This is not a romance, it's hell. An absolutely wonderfully unpleasant creation, I applaud tmfly for pulling it off.

Not the flower language scanlator endpage... :'(
Also does this mean one of Seta's moms is trans? That's so, like, poggers.
Fwiw it not because Tsubaki is masc, it was Seta's question about being "had"

I think the only thing you can really read into that line is that Seta's probably not adopted, one of his moms is his bio mom. Other than that who knows, and it's not really our business. I do definitely appreciate the rep for butch lesbians with Tsubaki, though. :) Far too rare these days.

Dorothy-sensei making an extremely appropriate for this manga reference in her author profile, lmao. https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=RtTYQuO1j6w

(I googled the phrase to see if there's anything else besides the extremely obvious and relevant to Aizawa-san reference but didn't find anything noteworthy, just some vtuber with 1/1000th the views of Necromantic, so I'm pretty sure this is an intentional reference lol)

Did Makino meet a useless lesbian?
This new girl seems like one.
And the other 2 are fools, Makino and Mashiro were pretty clear they are a couple.

Actually, this Hotaru girl is 100% a useless lesbian, a girl enjoying lesbian sex, the default should be she does it real life, not that she reads yuri eroge.

If she's a freshman she's probably ~18. In real life most queer 18yos don't have a lot of real life experience yet lol. That comes after starting college and getting to know people typically, because then you can go back to a dorm or your own apartment instead of your parent's house.

Also Mashiro is crazy for taking on full credits plus quitting her sex job for normal part time work, which will almost definitely be more stressful, physically demanding, and especially far less flexible. She's framed as super mature and competent compared to Makino but she's also still doing this for the first time and making clear mistakes. Most freshman learn stuff like "college classes are far more demanding of your time and energy than high school" and "don't take classes before 10am" and "your non-school schedule needs to be as flexible as possible" the hard way through experience, but it's a shame Mashiro's onee-san didn't teach her anything practical about college by the looks of it.

This is such a cute series, I'm glad it came back so I could discover it :) the author seems to be making up for her haitus by including much more physical affection than was previously in the series before the break. These gay sisters and their gay friends are all precious.
