What's important is that this shows a different side of Koguma we didn't see much before. Koguma lusting after Hino is something we don't see enough of and the manga also typically doesn't give us Hino fanservice/focus. The fact that we actually get Hino-san in some cute outfits for once (even if its just imaginary) is a big step up.

^Why is it an issue to think things are icky even if they are fictional? That's like saying "Why do you dislike scat in fiction? It's not real!" If you dislike something in real life it's not unreasonable to also be turned off by it in fiction.

Good thing most writers interpreted that metaphorically. Imagine if most writers were to use that advice in the literal meaning!

It's not quite as metaphorical as you think. It is incredibly common for parents to be dead or killed in this genre. If it's a serious action adventure the killed part is more common, while generally "My parents died when I was young" or the like are used excessively too.
In manga they prefer the nebulous "away for work/overseas for busines trips" trope, which is probably a bit healthier, but the complete abscence of any trace of parenthood just adds neglect to the list of consequences.
