What's with 20 and 19 aren't they the same year?

“Authorial intention” is one of the most vexed questions in literary interpretation, and most of what can be known about such intentions needs to be inferred from other contexts anyway.

It also doesn’t help that one of the most complete explanations we have in English of how a writer composed a major literary work and exactly what they were thinking at each step of the process is by Edgar Allan Poe, who would have us believe that at one point the title character of “The Raven” could have been a parrot.

At which point many readers say, “Uhhh, OK . . . if you say say so,” while backing carefully away.

Having written stories myself, I can entirely believe this anecdote.

Honestly, I've seen more manga that rely on characters not matching their blood type or astrological sign than ones about characters that do.

As nice as the art is, I nearly lost hope that it had a story at all and was nothing but art.

I figured it's like all those NanoFate doujins, where they heap a bunch of extras at the beginning or end. Although for those, the page numbers reflected where the actual story started.

I agree that we can do without some of the burning hot takes regarding poly relationships by people who don't seem to know much of anything about them, but can we not re-ignite a fruitless and largely off-topic debate that ended almost a week ago?

I would say this whole thing has gotten way too far out of hand, and I'm insisting everyone involved drop it and move on.

Not sure why we're spoilering since it's a series that was finished a while ago and isn't getting posted here.

In any case, I thought the ending itself made sense for Emi's character arc. I would have liked to see more of her learning more about the night life, the stuff Kei was teaching her remotely, her growth as a group leader and so forth, but what we got wasn't unsatisfying to me. It felt a little off on the first reading, but on successive reads it feels more natural, since I'm not going in expecting a different sort of story. Plus the little flashback-as-epilogue really does solidify how serious Kei's been about Emi all along.

I think the key really is re-reading it a few times. If I'd only read it once and walked away, I probably wouldn't like the story as much as I do.

Yea. It's only scene that doesn't let you interpret Chiharu as completely innocent and adds a bit of a doubt to her words.

Although it doesn't damn her either, since she could easily be just getting off the hook for the leaving/forgetting part, which is still pretty awful of her.

I'm pretty sure that Chiharu wasn't fooling around with a bunch of other girls. Her reaction of not knowing what Asami is talking about at the accusation of having four other lovers seems like genuine puzzlement. Now she did screw up badly in leaving without a word and forgetting about her, which is consistent with the "gives up on things easily" part. That's totally on her and certainly enough to justify not starting a whole new relationship with her, for revenge or not.
