Uhmm first of all I'm sorry for my broken english, I need help

so it's about an adult couple, the "seme" one always call the "uke" one a herbivore-type,
and since the "uke" one being called that way she never make a move to her girlfirend and focusing on her work(as a novelist idk, she work home with a laptop If I remember correctly),
story goes on the "seme" one grows impatient and yearning for intimate touch of her partner,
turns out the "uke" one didn't make a move coz she's afraid that the "seme" one will hate her and wants to preserve the herbivore-type behavior,
the story ends with the "uke" one is actually a carnivorous "seme"

thank you

Oh. So is that part over? My problem with love triangles has never been fear that it would break up the main pair or whatever. It was mostly the stuff around it. People turning on th third wheel. Ship wars. The feeling authors only do it as a cheap way to trigger people.

I do appreciate a very quickly-resolved love triangle. Sometimes they seem to hang over the characters' head for ages, it just drags on and on. I think this example is one of the better ones. Igarashi's appearance in the story shed some light on Chidori's past and also catalyzed a change in her and Nanoha's relationship. And then she got on a train and left. The development was kind of cliche in a number of ways, but it worked fine and with only 8 chapters in the story, she didn't overstay her welcome too much.

Maybe she'll be back at some point, but she's on her way back to her distant university (wherever it is, it's not in Tohoku) and a new term is starting, so I don't think she'll be coming back anytime soon.

I apologize for making assumptions. You're right, for all I know you're a leading expert in cultural studies of Japan and what you said is the distillation of years of research, which goes way beyond my head. I guess I've just seen lots of people making baseless generalizations about Japanese culture from what they see in manga.

It's cultural. In Japan showing pleasure is seen as dirty and shameful, so the ideal Japanese woman is one who is flustered from being brought to the edge.

It's stupid, but that's how this goes.

I don't think you should make the leap from "this thing is common in anime and manga" to "this thing is an inherent aspect of Japanese culture" without some very strong evidence. One should be careful in making inferences about an entire culture's outlook based solely on the pornography they produce.

It's more likely that it's just one of those weird things common to manga, like characters getting nosebleeds from sexual arousal and girls getting flustered and loudly proclaiming "kanchigai shinaide!" after doing something nice for the person they have a crush on. However it got started, it continues because that's what turns the authors on.

I didn't understand Igarashi until this latest chapter but, based on "her side of the story," I agree with your characterization of the events and Igarashi's feelings. All along, Kovachi-senpai has been telling a story about two girls learning what it means to love someone who must do so IN SECRET, because of the unknown and feared "corrective" responses from friends and family of the social norm that two girls should not love each other. Igarashi's behavior is just another manifestation of the effect of fear of severe enforcement of social norms. I feel bad for Chidori for the pain she experienced, but also feel bad that Igarashi could not overcome her fear of social stigma before she hurt Chidori and herself.

While I agree with you in general, I think you're overestimating the impact of social norms on Chidori and Nanoha. Two other girls at their school are publicly dating, and no one seems bothered by it. Fear of judgement might be part of why they're keeping things secret, but it seems like the main reason is just regular old shyness. Igarashi, on the other hand, clearly felt some intense pressure to conform to what she sees as normal.

Then why in Chapter 44 is Chidori told that Igarashi had been friends with the boy “since they were young” and that they had been dating “for a while”?

That doesn’t sound at all like something that’s started suddenly or very recently.

They say she'd been friends with him since they were young because she'd been friends with him since they were young. As in osananajimi. That doesn't imply anything about how long they'd been dating. And "a while" means the same thing as it does in English. In common usage, it can mean anything from a few minutes to a few weeks.

I tend to think that she'd only recently started dating him because that's the first time Chidori sees her meet him at the gates, and the first time anyone mentions him. It's possible she was dating him before but hiding it better, and started flaunting her boyfriend to put distance between herself and Chidori. Either way, I don't really think it matters when analyzing her character.

Quick fact / chronology checking...

Igarashi had a "he tells me he loves me" boyfriend
then met Chidori and thought she's cute
Chidori liked her too

No. She only started dating the guy after she told Chidori she loved her. It was her way of putting distance between them. That's the meaning of the "I did nothing wrong" line.

((She still thought of Chidori as someone to tease (first), have fun and show affection to (second and third...), so... her definition of "not just as friends" relationship is still rather twisted. Maybe she never intented a loud and proud 2-girls-in-love relationship... but then, I wonder why she even threw the "ex-girlfriend" out there...))

As the translator, I want to tell you that you really, really shouldn't read so much into the specific wording of a translation. Maybe some kind of genius could recreate the original with such fidelity as to justify that kind of word-by-word analysis, but I certainly can't, at least not consistently (by the way, in the original it goes "tease", "tease(affectionately)", then "have fun").

In any case, all three verbs here are kind of ambiguous. Just the "tease" could mean anything from playing a prank on someone to hitting on them. But that's not really important, because that line doesn't tell us Igarashi's true feelings. The context tells us what she really meant. Look at her reaction on the next page: she was seriously trying to ask Chidori out.

She met Chidori, developed a crush on her, told her she loved her, then started dating her childhood friend and ignoring Chidori out of fear when Chidori reciprocated her feelings. Chidori confronted her, and she responded with "But we're both girls". Months later, right before Igarashi graduated, she changed her mind/realized her mistake and sent Chidori chocolates to try to rekindle their relationship. Chidori rejected her. Now she came back to school to try a second time.

It's not explicitly stated, but I think we can assume that the boyfriend is out of the picture, and probably has been since before Valentine's Day. Otherwise, Igarashi wouldn't have been sitting around in a classroom waiting for her kouhai to respond, she'd be on a date.

Help me.. I'm turning crazy because I have been looking FOR YEARS NOW.

It's about a Village, it has eight or seven "houses" (families) and each has an unique power to hunt demons. All the heirs of those houses are sent to live together in one big house. Their powers will awaken when they turn 13 I think? Thing is, all of them awaken their powers, but the MC (female, a clumsy girl) has yet to awaken hers, but sometimes while fighting demons her "awaken form" leaks, which is another personality, of a God reincarnation that wants to end the world or something!??!?!? AAGH I can't remember clearly, it's killing me. She grows some horns, also the art is similar to Tanemura Arina but I can't find this one in any of her works.

Also there's a het love triangle. Guy 1 has black hair, he is always mean to MC girl, but when she transforms he likes her. Guy 2 hasgrey hair, he's always kind. Somehow he gets possesed by a demon and at the end he sacrifies himself to kill the demon. PERHAPS!?

Help me, it's killing me that I can't remember anything clearly (because it has been more than 5 years, that's for sure) but I keep dreaming or having flashbacks of that manga and I need to know.

Nano actually looks quite wrong-footed by the turn the encounter took. She clearly arrived filled with DETERMINATION andready for a showdown if need be and doesn't really seem to know how to react when the other party instead kind of just... deflates, apologises and leaves.

Whatever she was expecting and mentally prepared for clearly wasn't that.

Sometimes the person you're really angry at simply won't do you the common courtesy of fighting back, and then you're stuck yelling at someone for no reason and looking like an asshole.

I dunno, I could be wrong, that's just how it felt to me during the read.

I completely agree with you. I think she acts the way she does because she's afraid of being taken seriously. It's easier to act like that, since then if you're rejected you can always pass it off as if you were joking. If you look back at how she acted towards Chidori in the flashbacks, she's being pretty direct. The first thing she says to Chidori is to say she's beautiful. I guess you could say she was teasing her or playing with her feelings all along, but come on, look at this face. That's not the face of a cad. I think Chidori essentially surprised her into being honest and maybe saying more than she had planned on saying. For whatever reason—fear that it wouldn't work out, fear of being shunned or mocked, internalized homophobia, etc—she then felt she needed to end it and put some distance between them, which she did in probably the most fucked up way imaginable. It was too awful to be by accident, and I think you can only be that cruel to someone you care about.

Chidori is well rid of her. I don't think she'll ever find out that Igarashi was serious, and I don't think she should worry too much about her. When someone hurts you like that, you don't really need to care about why. Sometimes it's best to just cut a person out of your life.

Also, Nanoha really redeemed herself here. She cut Chidori off when she was trying to explain, because she was afraid of what the truth might be. I was worried that she wouldn't show up and then the whole series would be taken over by this mess, but no, the chapter after the problem appears it is resolved. Always nice when the author doesn't milk a cliche for all it's worth.

So any idea of when chapter 11 is going to be translated?

Apparently the usual translator became inactive due to getting a full-time job. If there's anyone interested in typesetting (who doesn't mind doing sound effects too), feel free to report to the Translation Thread over on /u/. Because boy howdy do we need to get to seeing chapter 12 released.

I think you mean "the usual editor became inactive". I'm still here.

Rereading this, I am reminded of how much this manga relies on characterization via overheard gossip. All three main characters are first described via the random outbursts of nameless side characters (who for the most part we don't even see). And it doesn't even make sense! Why are there girls remarking upon Bessho as she walks past? Why are people complaining about Ichijou loud enough that she can even hear them? Why are those comments so detailed? It's several months into the school year, presumably all these random students are familiar enough with these characters that they don't need to explain who they are to each other, but that's exactly what they're doing. It's so transparently for the reader's benefit that the author might as well just have a page listing the traits of the characters.

I think out of all the manga cliches, this is my least favorite. It's not just lazy, it's completely unnecessary. We naturally learn about the characters from their interactions, so having what is essentially narration shoved into the mouths of faceless, nameless side characters is pointless. Either the author has no faith in her ability to tell a story, or she thinks all her readers are idiots.

This is the first manga I ever tried to translate. Aya Yuri Volume 10 was one of the two physical manga I had access to (I didn't even buy it. I swear!) It turned out to be a pretty good place to start. Porn like this tends not to involve any complicated concepts or unusual grammar. Plus, most of the time the picture tells you exactly what's going on. And if you can force yourself to go through all the goddamn sound effects, trying to come up with English equivalents for all noises without repeating yourself too much, then you'll never complain about regular manga. It's also a heart-warming tale about friendship. I love that the last line is about holding hands.

I still have the script I wrote, and this translation is way better than what I came up with back then.

I just realize something. We haven't been told "it's a secret from everybody" since the first beach chapter.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the author never uses it again.

Maybe this means something, maybe she just finally got sick of it.

I don’t know what anybody’s problem with that was—lots of series have taglines that become unnecessary for regular readers. (Like Yamada’s “Kase-san is cool and kind of boyish . . .”)

But they’re, you know—taglines.

Oh yeah, it's kind of fun how the author works that into every chapter, with the first couple pages as setup. Though at only 10 pages a chapter, I wonder if it was kind of restrictive for her.

I'm just wondering if it's just a change she made for some reason unrelated to the story, or if it means someone found out.

Yeah, I guess if you're going by the strictest, most literal sense, Igarashi never rejected Chidori. But that ignores the reality of what actually happened.

I'm talking about what one partner thinks is worth bringing up to the other when taking into account the risk of creating a misunderstanding or seeming to complain about something the other person has no control over.

The previous agreement between Nanoha and Chidori was "We should really discuss things and make decisions together," which is not quite the same as "We should always tell each other exactly how things make us feel." (In other words, "Let's not make unilateral decisions for the other person" rather than, "Let's always say what's on our minds.")

So from Nanoha's POV, she has no reason to say anything except, "It's fine."

I wouldn't judge that agreement by the exact words they used to make it. Especially since those are my words, not the author's, and translation is an imperfect art (at least when I'm the one doing the translation). It wasn't just about making decisions together, but talking through problems together. Judging by Nanoha's reaction, she has an issue with what happened. It upset her. But when given an opportunity to discuss it with Chidori and deal with it directly, she turned her down. So I'd say she broke the promise she'd just made.

Edit: what I'm trying to say is maybe I screwed up the wording there, but my impression was that the "liar" line definitely referred back to what Nanoha had said earlier that day about discussing things together. That's why it's reproduced in the panel on that page.
